Позже Давид обратился к Господу за советом. Он спросил: «Идти ли мне против какого-либо из городов Иуды?» Господь сказал ему: «Иди». Давид спросил: «Куда мне идти?» Господь ответил: «В Хеврон».

It happened after this that David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I go up to any of the cities of Judah?” And the Lord said to him, “Go up.” David said, “Where shall I go up?” And He said, “To Hebron.”

И пошёл туда Давид с двумя своими жёнами, Ахиноамой изреелитянкой и Авигеей, вдовой Навала кармелитянина.

So David went up there, and his two wives also, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite.

Давид привёл с собой и своих людей с семьями. Они поселились в Хевроне и в близлежащих городах.

And David brought up the men who were with him, every man with his household. So they dwelt in the cities of Hebron.

Люди Иудеи пришли в Хеврон и помазали там Давида на царство над Иудеей, а потом рассказали ему, что жители Иависа Галаадского похоронили Саула.

Then the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, “The men of Jabesh Gilead were the ones who buried Saul.”

Давид отправил послов к жителям Иависа Галаадского сказать им: «Господь благословит вас за то, что вы оказали эту милость своему господину Саулу и похоронили его.

So David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh Gilead, and said to them, “You are blessed of the Lord, for you have shown this kindness to your lord, to Saul, and have buried him.

Господь воздаст вам милостью и верностью. И я тоже буду милостив к вам за то, что вы сделали.

And now may the Lord show kindness and truth to you. I also will repay you this kindness, because you have done this thing.

А сейчас будьте сильными и мужественными, так как ваш господин Саул умер, а род Иуды помазал меня царём над ним».

Now therefore, let your hands be strengthened, and be valiant; for your master Saul is dead, and also the house of Judah has anointed me king over them.”

Авенир, сын Нира, начальник войска Саула, привёл Иевосфея, сына Саула, в Маханаим

But Abner the son of Ner, commander of Saul’s army, took [a]Ishbosheth the son of Saul and brought him over to Mahanaim;

и сделал его царём над Галаадом, Гешуром, Изреелем и Ефремом, Вениамином и над всем Израилем.

and he made him king over Gilead, over the Ashurites, over Jezreel, over Ephraim, over Benjamin, and over all Israel.

Иевосфею, сыну Саула, было сорок лет, когда он начал править Израилем, и царствовал он два года. Только род Иуды следовал за Давидом.

Ishbosheth, Saul’s son, was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and he reigned two years. Only the house of Judah followed David.

Давид царствовал в Хевроне над иудеями семь лет и шесть месяцев.

And the [b]time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.

Авенир, сын Нира, и слуги Иевосфея, сына Саула, вышли из Маханаима в Гаваон.

Now Abner the son of Ner, and the servants of Ishbosheth the son of Saul, went out from Mahanaim to Gibeon.

Вышел и Иоав, сын Саруи, со слугами Давида, и они встретились у пруда в Гаваоне. Одни расположились на одной стороне пруда, а другие — на противоположной.

And Joab the son of Zeruiah, and the servants of David, went out and met them by the pool of Gibeon. So they sat down, one on one side of the pool and the other on the other side of the pool.

Авенир сказал Иоаву: «Пусть юноши померяются силами перед нами». Иоав ответил: «Хорошо, пусть так и будет».

Then Abner said to Joab, “Let the young men now arise and compete before us.” And Joab said, “Let them arise.”

И вышли двенадцать вениамитян со стороны Иевосфея, сына Саула, и двенадцать слуг Давида.

So they arose and went over by number, twelve from Benjamin, followers of Ishbosheth the son of Saul, and twelve from the servants of David.

Они схватили друг друга за голову, вонзили меч один другому в бок и пали вместе. И поэтому это место в Гаваоне назвали Хелкаф-Хаццурим.

And each one grasped his opponent by the head and thrust his sword in his opponent’s side; so they fell down together. Therefore that place was called [c]the Field of Sharp Swords, which is in Gibeon.

В тот день, после ожесточённого сражения, слуги Давида разбили Авенира и израильтян.

So there was a very fierce battle that day, and Abner and the men of Israel were beaten before the servants of David.

У Саруи было три сына: Иоав, Авесса и Асаил. Асаил очень быстро бегал, так быстро, как дикий олень.

Now the three sons of Zeruiah were there: Joab and Abishai and Asahel. And Asahel was as fleet of foot as a wild gazelle.

Асаил побежал за Авениром и не переставал преследовать его.

So Asahel pursued Abner, and in going he did not turn to the right hand or to the left from following Abner.

Авенир оглянулся назад и спросил: «Ты ли это, Асаил?» Асаил ответил: «Да, это я».

Then Abner looked behind him and said, “Are you Asahel?” He answered, “I am.”

Тогда Авенир попросил его: «Перестань преследовать меня. Сверни направо или налево. Выбери одного из молодых воинов, тебе будет легко взять его оружие». Но Асаил продолжал преследовать Авенира.

And Abner said to him, “Turn aside to your right hand or to your left, and lay hold on one of the young men and take his armor for yourself.” But Asahel would not turn aside from following him.

Авенир снова сказал Асаилу: «Перестань преследовать меня, иначе мне придётся тебя убить. Как смогу я тогда смотреть в лицо твоему брату Иоаву?»

So Abner said again to Asahel, “Turn aside from following me. Why should I strike you to the ground? How then could I face your brother Joab?”

Но Асаил не хотел останавливаться и продолжал бежать за Авениром. Тогда Авенир обратной стороной своего копья поразил его в живот. Копьё пронзило его насквозь, и тогда Асаил упал и умер на месте. Тело Асаила лежало на земле, и каждый, кто подходил к тому месту, где пал Асаил, останавливался, чтобы взглянуть на него.

However, he refused to turn aside. Therefore Abner struck him in the stomach with the blunt end of the spear, so that the spear came out of his back; and he fell down there and died on the spot. So it was that as many as came to the place where Asahel fell down and died, stood still.

Иоав и Авесса по-прежнему продолжали преследовать Авенира. Солнце уже садилось, когда они добрались до холма Амма, напротив Гиаха, по дороге к Гаваонской пустыне.

Joab and Abishai also pursued Abner. And the sun was going down when they came to the hill of Ammah, which is before Giah by the road to the Wilderness of Gibeon.

Вениамитяне собрались вокруг Авенира, сформировали один отряд и встали все вместе на вершине холма.

Now the children of Benjamin gathered together behind Abner and became [d]a unit, and took their stand on top of a hill.

Авенир закричал Иоаву: «Будем ли мы вечно сражаться и убивать друг друга? Ты же знаешь, что последствия будут печальные. Скажи своим людям: пусть перестанут преследовать своих братьев».

Then Abner called to Joab and said, “Shall the sword devour forever? Do you not know that it will be bitter in the latter end? How long will it be then until you tell the people to return from pursuing their brethren?”

И сказал Иоав: «Так же верно, как то, что Господь жив, если бы ты ничего сейчас не сказал, то люди преследовали бы своих братьев до утра».

And Joab said, “As God lives, [e]unless you had spoken, surely then by morning all the people would have given up pursuing their brethren.”

Иоав затрубил в трубу, и его люди перестали преследовать израильтян и больше не сражались.

So Joab blew a trumpet; and all the people stood still and did not pursue Israel anymore, nor did they fight anymore.

Авенир же и его люди шли по Иорданской долине всю ночь. Они перешли реку Иордан и шли весь день, пока не пришли в Маханаим.

Then Abner and his men went on all that night through the plain, crossed over the Jordan, and went through all Bithron; and they came to Mahanaim.

Когда Иоав вернулся после преследования Авенира и собрал всех своих людей, оказалось, что недостаёт девятнадцати слуг Давида, включая Асаила.

So Joab returned from pursuing Abner. And when he had gathered all the people together, there were missing of David’s servants nineteen men and Asahel.

Слуги Давида убили триста шестьдесят вениамитян, которые были с Авениром.

But the servants of David had struck down, of Benjamin and Abner’s men, three hundred and sixty men who died.

Они взяли тело Асаила и похоронили в могиле его отца в Вифлееме. Иоав со своими людьми шёл всю ночь, и на рассвете они достигли Хеврона.

Then they took up Asahel and buried him in his father’s tomb, which was in Bethlehem. And Joab and his men went all night, and they came to Hebron at daybreak.
