Господь послал к Давиду Нафана, и тот сказал: «В одном городе жили два человека: один богатый, а другой бедный.

Then the Lord sent Nathan to David. And he came to him, and said to him: “There were two men in one city, one rich and the other poor.

У богатого было очень много мелкого и крупного скота,

The rich man had exceedingly many flocks and herds.

а у бедного не было ничего, кроме маленькой овечки, которую он купил. Он выкормил её, и она выросла вместе с его детьми. Она ела то, что он ел, пила из его чаши, спала у него на груди и была ему как дочь.

But the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb which he had bought and nourished; and it grew up together with him and with his children. It ate of his own food and drank from his own cup and lay in his bosom; and it was like a daughter to him.

Однажды к богатому человеку пришёл странник, но богач не хотел брать животное из своих овец и коров, чтобы приготовить еду для странника. Он взял овечку бедняка и приготовил её для гостя, который пришёл к нему».

And a traveler came to the rich man, who refused to take from his own flock and from his own herd to prepare one for the wayfaring man who had come to him; but he took the poor man’s lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.”

Давид очень разгневался на этого человека и сказал Нафану: «Так же верно, как то, что Господь жив, человек, совершивший этот поступок, достоин смерти!

So David’s anger was greatly aroused against the man, and he said to Nathan, “As the Lord lives, the man who has done this [a]shall surely die!

За овечку он должен заплатить вчетверо, так как совершил этот страшный грех и не имел сострадания».

And he shall restore fourfold for the lamb, because he did this thing and because he had no pity.”

Затем Нафан сказал Давиду: «Ты и есть тот человек! Вот что говорит Господь, Бог Израиля: „Я помазал тебя на царство в Израиле, Я избавил тебя от руки Саула.

Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man! Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul.

Я дал тебе дом твоего господина, дал тебе жён твоего господина и царства Израиля и Иудеи. И если бы этого было мало, Я дал бы тебе ещё больше.

I gave you your master’s house and your master’s wives into your keeping, and gave you the house of Israel and Judah. And if that had been too little, I also would have given you much more!

Почему же ты пренебрёг словом Господа, сделав то, что Он считает злом? Ты поразил мечом Урию хеттеянина и взял себе его жену. Ты убил его мечом аммонитян.

Why have you despised the commandment of the Lord, to do evil in His sight? You have killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword; you have taken his wife to be your wife, and have killed him with the sword of the people of Ammon.

За то, что ты пренебрёг Мной и взял себе жену Урии хеттеянина, твоя семья никогда не будет жить в мире”».

Now therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised Me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’

Так говорит Господь: «Я навлеку беды против тебя в твоём собственном доме. У тебя на глазах Я возьму твоих жён и отдам их человеку, который очень близок тебе. Он будет спать с твоими жёнами, и все будут об этом знать.

Thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, I will raise up adversity against you from your own house; and I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in the sight of this sun.

Ты втайне познал Вирсавию, Я же прилюдно накажу тебя».

For you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, before the sun.’ ”

И сказал Давид Нафану: «Согрешил я перед Господом». Нафан ответил Давиду: «Господь простил тебе твои грехи, ты не умрёшь.

So David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.” And Nathan said to David, “The Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die.

Однако своим грехом ты дал повод врагам Господа возненавидеть Его, поэтому умрёт родившийся у тебя сын».

However, because by this deed you have given great occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, the child also who is born to you shall surely die.”

После того как Нафан пошёл к себе в дом, Господь поразил ребёнка, которого родила Давиду жена Урии, и он заболел.

Then Nathan departed to his house. The Death of David’s SonAnd the Lord struck the child that Uriah’s wife bore to David, and it became ill.

Давид молился Богу о младенце. Он постился и, уединившись в доме, проводил ночи, лёжа на земле.

David therefore pleaded with God for the child, and David fasted and went in and lay all night on the ground.

Старейшины его дома пришли к нему, чтобы поднять его с земли, но он не встал и отказался есть с ними.

So the elders of his house arose and went to him, to raise him up from the ground. But he would not, nor did he eat food with them.

На седьмой день младенец умер. Слуги Давида боялись сказать ему, что ребёнок мёртв, так как полагали следующее: «Мы пытались говорить с Давидом, когда ребёнок был ещё жив, но он отказывался слушать нас. Как же нам сказать ему, что ребёнок умер? Услышав эту весть, он сделает с собой что-нибудь безумное».

Then on the seventh day it came to pass that the child died. And the servants of David were afraid to tell him that the child was dead. For they said, “Indeed, while the child was alive, we spoke to him, and he would not heed our voice. How can we tell him that the child is dead? He may do some harm!”

Давид заметил, что его слуги перешёптываются между собой, и понял, что ребёнок умер. Он спросил: «Умер ребёнок?» Слуги ответили: «Да, умер».

When David saw that his servants were whispering, David perceived that the child was dead. Therefore David said to his servants, “Is the child dead?” And they said, “He is dead.”

Тогда Давид встал с земли, умылся, переоделся и пошёл в дом Господа молиться. Затем он пошёл домой и потребовал, чтобы ему принесли еду. Слуги принесли ему еду, и он стал есть.

So David arose from the ground, washed and anointed himself, and changed his clothes; and he went into the house of the Lord and worshiped. Then he went to his own house; and when he requested, they set food before him, and he ate.

Слуги Давида спросили его: «Почему ты ведёшь себя так? Когда ребёнок был ещё жив, ты постился и плакал, а когда ребёнок умер, ты встал и попросил есть».

Then his servants said to him, “What is this that you have done? You fasted and wept for the child while he was alive, but when the child died, you arose and ate food.”

Давид ответил: «Когда ребёнок был ещё жив, я постился и плакал потому, что думал: „Кто знает? Может, Господь помилует меня, и дитя останется живым”.

And he said, “While the child was alive, I fasted and wept; for I said, ‘Who can tell whether [b]the Lord will be gracious to me, that the child may live?’

Но сейчас ребёнок умер. Зачем же мне поститься? Разве я могу возвратить его? Нет! Когда-нибудь я пойду к нему, но он не вернётся ко мне».

But now he is dead; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.”

Затем Давид утешил Вирсавию, свою жену. Он вошёл к ней и спал с ней. Она снова забеременела и родила сына, которого они назвали Соломоном. Господь полюбил его

Then David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her and lay with her. So she bore a son, and he[c] called his name Solomon. Now the Lord loved him,

и поэтому послал пророка Нафана, и тот от имени Господа дал ребёнку имя «Иедидиа».

and He sent word by the hand of Nathan the prophet: So [d]he called his name [e]Jedidiah, because of the Lord.

Равва была столицей аммонитян. Иоав воевал против Раввы и захватил город.

Now Joab fought against Rabbah of the people of Ammon, and took the royal city.

Иоав отправил послов к Давиду с таким сообщением: «Я воевал против Раввы и захватил источник, питающий город.

And Joab sent messengers to David, and said, “I have fought against Rabbah, and I have taken the city’s water supply.

Теперь собери остальной народ, подойди к Равве и захвати его. Если я возьму город, то он будет назван моим именем».

Now therefore, gather the rest of the people together and encamp against the city and take it, lest I take the city and it be called after my name.”

Тогда Давид собрал весь народ и пошёл к Равве. Он сразился против Раввы и захватил город.

So David gathered all the people together and went to Rabbah, fought against it, and took it.

Давид снял с головы их царя корону из чистого золота, украшенную драгоценными камнями весом в один талант. Эта корона была возложена на голову Давида. Он также вынес из города много драгоценных вещей.

Then he took their king’s crown from his head. Its weight was a talent of gold, with precious stones. And it was set on David’s head. Also he brought out the [f]spoil of the city in great abundance.

Давид также вывел всех жителей Раввы и заставил их работать пилами, железными кирками, топорами и обжигать кирпич. Так он поступил со всеми аммонитскими городами. Затем Давид и всё его войско возвратились в Иерусалим.

And he brought out the people who were in it, and put them to work with saws and iron picks and iron axes, and made them cross over to the brick works. So he did to all the cities of the people of Ammon. Then David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
