The words of Amos, who was among the shepherdsa of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel, two yearsb before the earthquake.

Worte des Amosⓐ — der unter den Schafzüchternⓑ von Tekoaⓒ war —, die er über Israel geschaut hat[1] in den Tagen des Usijaⓓ, des Königs von Judaⓔ, und in den Tagen Jerobeams, des Sohnes des Joasch, des Königs von Israelⓕ, zwei Jahre vor dem Erdbebenⓖ.

And he said: “The Lord roars from Zion and utters his voice from Jerusalem; the pastures of the shepherds mourn, and the top of Carmel withers.”

Und er sprach: Der HERR wird vom Zion her brüllen und aus Jerusalem seine Stimme erschallen lassenⓗ: Da vertrocknen[2] die Weideplätze der Hirten, und der Gipfel des Karmelⓘ verdorrtⓙ.

Thus says the Lord: “For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,c because they have threshed Gilead with threshing sledges of iron.

ⓚ So spricht der HERR: Wegen drei Verbrechen von Damaskusⓛ und wegen vier werde ich es nicht rückgängig machen, weil sie Gilead mit eisernen Dreschschlitten gedroschen habenⓜ.

So I will send a fire upon the house of Hazael, and it shall devour the strongholds of Ben-hadad.

So sende ich Feuer in das Haus Hasaëls, dass es die Paläste Ben-Hadads frisstⓝ.

I will break the gate-bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitants from the Valley of Aven,d and him who holds the scepter from Beth-eden; and the people of Syria shall go into exile to Kir,” says the Lord.

Ich zerbreche den Riegel von Damaskusⓞ und rotte den Herrscher[3] aus Bikat-Awen[4] ⓟ aus und den, der das Zepter hält, aus Bet-Eden[5]: Und das Volk von Aram wird nach Kirⓠ gefangen wegziehen, spricht der HERR.

Thus says the Lord: “For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because they carried into exile a whole people to deliver them up to Edom.

ⓡ So spricht der HERR: Wegen drei Verbrechen von Gaza und wegen vier werde ich es nicht rückgängig machen, weil sie ganze Ortschaften[6] gefangen weggeführt habenⓢ, um sie an Edom auszuliefern.

So I will send a fire upon the wall of Gaza, and it shall devour her strongholds.

So sende ich Feuer gegen die Mauer von Gaza, dass es seine Paläste frisst.

I will cut off the inhabitants from Ashdod, and him who holds the scepter from Ashkelon; I will turn my hand against Ekron, and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish,” says the Lord God.

Ich rotte den Herrscher[7] aus Aschdodⓣ aus und den, der das Zepter hält, aus Aschkelonⓤ. Ich wende meine Hand gegen Ekronⓥ, und der Rest der Philister geht zugrunde, spricht der Herr, HERR.

Thus says the Lord: “For three transgressions of Tyre, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because they delivered up a whole people to Edom, and did not remember the covenant of brotherhood.

ⓦ So spricht der HERR: Wegen drei Verbrechen von Tyrus und wegen vier werde ich es nicht rückgängig machen, weil sie ganze Ortschaften[8] an Edom ausgeliefertⓧ und an den Bruderbund nicht gedacht habenⓨ.

So I will send a fire upon the wall of Tyre, and it shall devour her strongholds.”

So sende ich Feuer gegen die Mauer von Tyrus, dass es seine Paläste frisstⓩ.

Thus says the Lord: “For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because he pursued his brother with the sword and cast off all pity, and his anger tore perpetually, and he kept his wrath forever.

ⓐ So spricht der HERR: Wegen drei Verbrechen von Edom und wegen vier werde ich es nicht rückgängig machenⓑ, weil es seinem Bruder mit dem Schwert nachjagt und sein Erbarmen erstickt hat und weil sein Zorn beständig zerfleischt[9] und sein Grimm dauernd wachtⓒ.

So I will send a fire upon Teman, and it shall devour the strongholds of Bozrah.”

So sende ich Feuer gegen Teman, dass es die Paläste von Bozraⓓ frisst.

Thus says the Lord: “For three transgressions of the Ammonites, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because they have ripped open pregnant women in Gilead, that they might enlarge their border.

ⓔ So spricht der HERR: Wegen drei Verbrechen der Söhne Ammon und wegen vier werde ich es nicht rückgängig machen, weil sie die Schwangeren von Gilead aufgeschlitzt habenⓕ, um ihr Gebiet zu erweitern.

So I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it shall devour her strongholds, with shouting on the day of battle, with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind;

So zünde ich Feuer an in der Mauer von Rabbaⓖ, dass es seine Paläste frisst unter ‹Kriegs›geschrei am Tag der Schlachtⓗ, unter Sturm am Tag des Unwetters.

and their king shall go into exile, he and his princese together,” says the Lord.

Da geht ihr König in die Gefangenschaft[10], er und seine Obersten zusammen mit ihm, spricht der HERR.
