Now there was a certain man of Ramathaimzophim, of mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite:

Жил один человек по имени Елкана, из Рамафаим-Цофима на горе Ефремовой. Елкана был из семьи Цуфа. Елкана был сыном Иерохима. Иерохим был сыном Илии. Илия был сыном Тоху. А Тоху был сыном Цуфа Ефрафянина.

And he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.

У Елкана было две жены. Одну звали Анна, а другую — Феннана. У Феннаны были дети, а у Анны детей не было.

And this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the LORD of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the LORD, were there.

Каждый год Елкана уходил из своего города в Силом поклоняться и приносить жертву Господу Всемогущему. В Силоме священниками Господа были Офни и Финеес. Они были сыновьями Илия.

And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:

Каждый раз, когда Елкана приносил жертву, он давал часть еды своей жене Феннане и её детям.

But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the LORD had shut up her womb.

Анне же Елкана всегда давал вдвое больше, ибо любил Анну, несмотря на то, что Господь не дал ей детей.

And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the LORD had shut up her womb.

Феннана всегда очень огорчала Анну из-за того, что та не могла иметь детей.

And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the LORD, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat.

Так бывало каждый год. Каждый раз, когда их семья ходила в дом Господень в Силом, Феннана огорчала Анну. Однажды, когда Елкана совершал жертвоприношение, Анна опечалилась и заплакала. Она ничего не ела,

Then said Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons?

и муж её, Елкана, сказал ей: "Анна, почему ты плачешь и почему не ешь? О чём скорбит твоя душа? У тебя есть муж, разве я не лучше для тебя десяти сыновей?"

So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the LORD.

После того, как они поели и попили, Анна тихо встала и вышла помолиться Господу. Илий же, священник, сидел у входа в храм Господа.

And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore.

Анна была очень опечалена и горько плакала, молясь Господу.

And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no rasor come upon his head.

И дала она обет Богу, говоря: "Господи Всемогущий, посмотри на скорбь мою. Вспомни обо мне! Не забудь меня. Если Ты дашь мне сына, я отдам его Тебе. Он будет назореем и не станет пить ни вина, ни крепких напитков, и никто не острижёт его волос".

And it came to pass, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli marked her mouth.

Анна долго молилась Господу, а Илий всё это время следил за её губами.

Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken.

Но Анна молилась в сердце своём, поэтому губы её шевелились, а голоса слышно не было, и Илий подумал, что Анна пьяна.

And Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee.

Он сказал ей: "Ты слишком много пила! Пора оставить вино".

And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD.

Анна сказала: "Нет, господин мой, я не пила ни вина, ни пива. Я глубоко скорблю и изливаю душу свою перед Господом.

Count not thine handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto.

Не считай меня плохой женщиной. Я молилась так долго от великой печали и скорби моей".

Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.

Илий ответил: "Иди с миром. Пусть Бог Израилев даст тебе то, о чём ты просила Его".

And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad.

Анна сказала: "Да найду я милость в глазах твоих!" Затем она ушла, поела немного и не была уже такой печальной, как прежде.

And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her.

На следующее утро семья Елкана встала рано. Они поклонились перед Господом и вернулись домой в Раму. Елкана спал со своей женой Анной, и Господь вспомнил о ней.

Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD.

Через некоторое время Анна забеременела и, когда пришло время, родила сына и назвала его Самуилом. Она сказала: "Я назвала его так потому, что просила его у Господа".

And the man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer unto the LORD the yearly sacrifice, and his vow.

В тот год Елкана пошёл в Силом принести жертву и сдержать обеты, данные Богу. Он взял с собой всю свою семью.

But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and there abide for ever.

Но Анна не пошла. Она сказала Елкане: "Когда я отниму мальчика от груди, и он подрастёт и станет есть твёрдую пищу, я отведу его в Силом и отдам его Господу. Он станет назореем и останется там навсегда".

And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth thee good; tarry until thou have weaned him; only the LORD establish his word. So the woman abode, and gave her son suck until she weaned him.

Елкана, муж её, сказал: "Делай, как хочешь. Оставайся дома, пока мальчик не подрастёт и не станет есть твёрдую пищу. И пусть Господь утвердит слова твои". Анна осталась дома и нянчила своего сына, пока не вскормила его.

And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the LORD in Shiloh: and the child was young.

Когда мальчик подрос и стал есть твёрдую пищу, Анна повела его в дом Господа в Силом. Она взяла с собой трёхлетнего тельца, одну ефу муки и бутыль вина.

And they slew a bullock, and brought the child to Eli.

Они предстали перед Господом. Елкана заколол тельца и принёс жертву Господу, как делал обычно. И тогда Анна отдала мальчика Илию.

And she said, Oh my lord, as thy soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the LORD.

Она сказала: "Прости меня, господин мой. Я — та самая женщина, которая здесь при тебе стояла и молилась Господу. Поверь мне,

For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him:

я молилась об этом ребёнке, и Господь исполнил мою просьбу. Он дал мне это дитя.

Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there.

И теперь я отдаю его Господу, и он будет служить Ему всю свою жизнь". Анна оставила там мальчика, и он почтил Господа.
