So get rid of all evil behavior. Be done with all deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy, and all unkind speech.

Поэтому избавьтесь от злобы, обмана, лицемерия и зависти, и от всякого рода злословия;

Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment,

и будьте словно новорожденные младенцы, жаждущие чистого молока Слова; чтобы через него вы возросли к избавлению.

now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness.

Ибо вы вкусили, что добр Господь.

You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor.

Приходя к нему, живому камню, отвергнутому людьми, но избранному Богом, драгоценному для Него,

And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests.a Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God.

сами вы, словно живые камни, созидаемые в духовный дом, чтобы быть священниками, отделёнными для Бога и приносящими духовные жертвы, угодные Ему благодаря Мессии Иисусу.

As the Scriptures say, “I am placing a cornerstone in Jerusalem,b chosen for great honor, and anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.”c

Поэтому Еврейские Писания говорят: "Вот, Я полагаю на Сионе камень, камень избранный, драгоценный, краеугольный; и всякий, кто поверит ему не будет уничижён".

Yes, you who trust him recognize the honor God has given him.d But for those who reject him, “The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.”e

Итак, для вас, кто верит [ему], он драгоценен. Но для тех, кто не верит, "Тот самый камень, который отвергли строители, стал краеугольным".

And, “He is the stone that makes people stumble, the rock that makes them fall.”f They stumble because they do not obey God’s word, and so they meet the fate that was planned for them.

Кроме того, 'это камень, о который люди преткнутся, камень, который станет причиной их падения'. Они претыкаются о Слово, не покоряясь ему, — в чём и состоял замысел.

But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests,g a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

Но вы избранный народ, священники Царя, святой народ, народ, принадлежащий Богу! Для какой цели? Чтобы возвещать хвалу о Призвавшем вас из тьмы в Свой чудесный свет.

“Once you had no identity as a people; now you are God’s people. Once you received no mercy; now you have received God’s mercy.”h

Когда-то вы были не народом, но теперь вы Божий народ; вы не были помилованы прежде, но теперь помилованы.

Dear friends, I warn you as “temporary residents and foreigners” to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls.

Дорогие друзья, я призываю вас, как странников и временных жителей, не поддаваться желаниям вашего старого естества, которое продолжает противоборствовать вам;

Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when he judges the world.i

но вести среди язычников такую добродетельную жизнь, чтобы они, даже если сейчас говорят о вас как о злодеях, увидев ваши добрые дела, воздали славу Богу в день Его пришествия.

For the Lord’s sake, submit to all human authority — whether the king as head of state,

Ради Господа, подчинитесь всякой человеческой власти — императору, как представителю высшей власти,

or the officials he has appointed. For the king has sent them to punish those who do wrong and to honor those who do right.

а также наместникам, поставленным им для того, чтобы наказывать преступников и поощрять делающих добро.

It is God’s will that your honorable lives should silence those ignorant people who make foolish accusations against you.

Ибо Божья воля в том, чтобы своими добрыми делами вы положили конец невежественным речам глупых людей.

For you are free, yet you are God’s slaves, so don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do evil.

Подчинитесь, как свободные люди, не позволяющие своей свободе служить оправданием злу, как Божьи рабы.

Respect everyone, and love the family of believers.j Fear God, and respect the king.

Относитесь с уважением ко всем — любите братство, бойтесь Бога и почитайте императора.

You who are slaves must submit to your masters with all respect.k Do what they tell you — not only if they are kind and reasonable, but even if they are cruel.

Слуги, подчинитесь своим хозяевам, оказывая им почтение во всём, — и не только тем, кто добр и заботлив, но и тем, кто суров.

For God is pleased when, conscious of his will, you patiently endure unjust treatment.

Поскольку, если кто-либо, думая о Боге, стойко переносит боль незаслуженного наказания, это благодать.

Of course, you get no credit for being patient if you are beaten for doing wrong. But if you suffer for doing good and endure it patiently, God is pleased with you.

Ибо какая может быть похвала, если вы подвергаетесь заслуженным побоям за свои проступки? Но если вы стойко переносите наказание, несмотря на то, что поступки ваши добры, это заслуживает одобрения со стороны Бога.

For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ sufferedl for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps.

Ведь к этому вы и призваны, поскольку и Мессия страдал ради вас, показав вам пример, чтобы вы следовали по его стопам.

He never sinned, nor ever deceived anyone.m

"Он не согрешил, и не было лжи в устах его".

He did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threaten revenge when he suffered. He left his case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly.

Подвергнувшись оскорблениям, он не оскорблял в ответ; страдая, он не угрожал, но передал всё Тому, Чей суд справедлив.

He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed.

Он понёс наши грехи в своём теле на стойку, чтобы мы умерли для грехов и жили для праведности — его ранами мы исцелились.

Once you were like sheep who wandered away. But now you have turned to your Shepherd, the Guardian of your souls.

Ибо вы блуждали, как овцы, но теперь вернулись к Пастырю, охраняющему вас.
