And Joseph fell upon his father's face, and wept upon him, and kissed him.

Иосиф очень горевал, когда Израиль умер. Обняв отца, он плакал над ним и целовал его.

And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father. And the physicians embalmed Israel.

Он приказал своим слугам-врачам подготовить тело отца, и те, согласно обычаю египтян, по-особому набальзамировали тело Иакова для погребения.

And forty days were fulfilled for him; for so are fulfilled the days of those who are embalmed. And the Egyptians mourned for him seventy days.

Подготавливая тело по-особому, египтяне выжидали сорок дней до погребения, а потом семьдесят дней скорбели об Иакове.

And when the days of his mourning were past, Joseph spoke to the house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found favour in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,

Когда же время скорби прошло, Иосиф обратился к придворным фараона и сказал: «Прошу вас, передайте фараону:

My father made me swear, saying, Behold, I die; in my grave which I have dug myself in the land of Canaan, there shalt thou bury me. And now, let me go up, I pray thee, that I may bury my father; and I will come again.

„Когда мой отец был при смерти, я дал ему обещание, что похороню его в Ханаанской земле, в той пещере, которую он приготовил для себя. Так позволь же мне пойти похоронить моего отца, а после этого я возвращусь к тебе”».

And Pharaoh said, Go up and bury thy father, according as he made thee swear.

«Сдержи своё обещание, — ответил фараон, — иди и похорони своего отца».

And Joseph went up to bury his father; and with him went up all the bondmen of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt,

Тогда Иосиф пошёл хоронить отца, а с ним пошли все придворные фараона, все старейшины дома фараона и все старейшины Египта.

and all the house of Joseph, and his brethren, and his father's house; only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen.

С Иосифом пошла вся его семья, его братья и все члены семьи его отца, только дети, овцы и скот остались в земле Гесем.

And there went up with him both chariots and horsemen; and the camp was very great.

Народа было очень много, там были даже воины на колесницах и всадники.

And they came to the threshing-floor of Atad, which is beyond the Jordan; and there they lamented with a great and very grievous lamentation; and he made a mourning for his father of seven days.

Они дошли до Горен-Гаатада к востоку от реки Иордан и там совершили по Израилю долгую погребальную службу, продолжавшуюся семь дней.

And the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning at the threshing-floor of Atad, and they said, This is a grievous mourning of the Egyptians. Therefore the name of it was called Abel-Mizraim, which is beyond the Jordan.

Увидев погребальную службу в Горен-Гаатаде, жители Ханаанской земли сказали: «До чего же печальная служба у этих египтян!» Потому и называется то место Авел-Мизраим.

And his sons did to him according as he had commanded them;

Так сыновья Израиля исполнили то, что он им завещал.

and his sons carried him into the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah which Abraham had bought along with the field, for a possession of a sepulchre, of Ephron the Hittite, opposite to Mamre.

Они отнесли его тело в Ханаан и похоронили в пещере у Махпелы, неподалеку от Мамре, на поле, купленном Авраамом у Ефрона хеттеянина. Авраам купил эту пещеру, чтобы иметь место для погребения.

And, after he had buried his father, Joseph returned to Egypt, he and his brethren, and all that had gone up with him to bury his father.

Иосиф похоронил отца и вместе со всеми, кто был с ним, возвратился в Египет.

And when Joseph's brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, If now Joseph should be hostile to us, and should indeed requite us all the evil that we did to him!

После смерти Иакова братья Иосифа стали опасаться, что Иосиф всё ещё разгневан на них за то, что они совершили много лет назад. «Может быть, Иосиф всё ещё ненавидит нас за то, что мы сделали», — говорили братья.

And they sent a messenger to Joseph, saying, Thy father commanded before he died, saying,

Они послали сказать ему: «Отец перед смертью велел нам что-то передать тебе.

Thus shall ye speak to Joseph: Oh forgive, I pray thee, the transgression of thy brethren, and their sin! for they did evil to thee. And now, we pray thee, forgive the transgression of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spoke to him.

„Скажите Иосифу, — сказал он, — что я прошу его простить братьям зло, которое они ему причинили”. И вот теперь мы просим тебя, Иосиф: прости нас, слуг Бога твоего отца, за то зло, что мы тебе причинили». Иосиф был очень опечален этим посланием и заплакал.

And his brethren also went and fell down before his face, and said, Behold, we are thy bondmen.

Братья пришли и низко поклонились ему, сказав: «Мы — твои слуги».

And Joseph said to them, Fear not: am I then in the place of God?

Иосиф же ответил: «Не бойтесь меня, я не Бог!

Ye indeed meant evil against me: God meant it for good, in order that he might do as [it is] this day, to save a great people alive.

Правда, что вы замыслили против меня зло, но Бог назначил мне доброе, по промыслу Его я послужил к сохранению жизни множества людей, как и случилось до сего дня!

And now, fear not: I will maintain you and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spoke consolingly to them.

Так не бойтесь же, я позабочусь о вас и о ваших детях». И он успокоил их, говоря добрые слова.

And Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he and his father's house; and Joseph lived a hundred and ten years.

Иосиф жил в Египте с семьёй своего отца и прожил всего 110 лет.

And Joseph saw Ephraim's children of the third [generation]; the sons also of Machir the son of Manasseh were born on Joseph's knees.

При жизни Иосифа у Ефрема родились дети и внуки, и у его сына Манассии родился сын по имени Махир. И дожил Иосиф до того времени, когда увидел детей Махира.

And Joseph said to his brethren, I die; and God will certainly visit you, and bring you up out of this land, into the land that he swore unto Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

Когда Иосиф был близок к смерти, он сказал своим братьям: «Близок час моей смерти, но я знаю, что Бог позаботится о вас и выведет вас из этой страны. Бог приведёт вас в ту землю, которую обещал дать Аврааму, Исааку и Иакову».

And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will certainly visit you; and ye shall carry up my bones hence.

Затем Иосиф попросил членов своей семьи, чтобы они дали ему обещание. «Обещайте мне, — сказал Иосиф, — что возьмёте с собой мои кости, когда Бог поведёт вас из Египта в новую землю».

And Joseph died, a hundred and ten years old; and they embalmed him; and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.

Иосиф умер в Египте, когда ему было 110 лет, его тело набальзамировали к погребению и положили в гроб в Египетской земле.
