Ефрем попусту теряет время, а Израиль «гоняется за ветром» целый день, умножая ложь и насилие. Они заключили договор с Ассирией и посылали оливковое масло в Египет.

Ephraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he daily increaseth lies and desolation; and they do make a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried into Egypt.

Так говорит Господь: «Я недоволен Израилем. Я накажу Иакова за зло, совершённое им.

The LORD hath also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense him.

Ещё во чреве матери Иаков начал обманывать брата своего, а став сильным мужчиной, начал бороться с Богом.

He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with God:

Иаков сразился с Ангелом Господним и победил, а затем плакал и умолял о милости; в Вефиле Он разговаривал с нами.

Yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him in Bethel, and there he spake with us;

Да, Иегова — Бог воинства, Его имя — Господь!

Even the LORD God of hosts; the LORD is his memorial.

Так вернись же к своему Богу, будь предан Ему! Всегда совершай праведные поступки и не переставай верить в Бога твоего.

Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually.

Иаков — хитрый делец, он обманывает даже друзей; и даже весы его лгут.

He is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: he loveth to oppress.

Ефрем хвастается: „Я очень богат! Я обрёл истинное богатство! И никто не узнает о моих преступлениях и грехах”.

And Ephraim said, Yet I am become rich, I have found me out substance: in all my labours they shall find none iniquity in me that were sin.

Но Я был твоим Господом с тех пор, как вывел тебя из Египетской земли. Я заставлю тебя жить в шатрах, как в дни праздника Укрытий.

And I that am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt will yet make thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast.

Я говорил с пророками, дал им дар многих видений, а также научил их притчам.

I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.

Но народ Галаада грешил, сотворив множество ужасных идолов. Люди приносят в жертву быков на алтарях в Галгале. Их алтари стоят длинными рядами, словно борозды на распаханном поле.

Is there iniquity in Gilead? surely they are vanity: they sacrifice bullocks in Gilgal; yea, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the fields.

Иаков убежал в страну Арам, и там Израиль работал за жену; он пас овец, чтобы заплатить за неё.

And Jacob fled into the country of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep.

Но Господь с помощью пророка вывел потомков Израиля из Египта, и через пророка Он охранял его.

And by a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved.

Однако Израиль убил много людей, и тем самым Господа рассердил. Поэтому Господь накажет его за то, что Израиль оскорбление Ему нанёс».

Ephraim provoked him to anger most bitterly: therefore shall he leave his blood upon him, and his reproach shall his Lord return unto him.
