Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ to further the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness —

Павел, раб Божий, апостол же Иисуса Христа для веры избранных Божиих и познания истины, согласной с благочестием,

in the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time,

в надежде жизни вечной, которую прежде вечных времен обещал неложный Бог,

and which now at his appointed season he has brought to light through the preaching entrusted to me by the command of God our Savior,

явил же в положенные сроки слово Свое в проповеди, которая вверена была мне по повелению Спасителя нашего Бога, —

To Titus, my true son in our common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.

Титу, истинному сыну по общей вере, — благодать и мир от Бога Отца и Христа Иисуса, Спасителя нашего.

The reason I left you in Crete was that you might put in order what was left unfinished and appointa elders in every town, as I directed you.

Я для того оставил тебя на Крите, чтобы ты недоконченное доделал и поставил по всем городам пресвитеров, как я тебе приказал;

An elder must be blameless, faithful to his wife, a man whose children believeb and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient.

если кто безупречен, одной жены муж, детей имеющий верных, не обвиняемых в распутстве или непокорных.

Since an overseer manages God’s household, he must be blameless — not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain.

Ибо епископ должен быть безупречен, как Божий домоправитель, не самодоволен, не гневлив, не склонен к вину, не задорен, не искал бы постыдной наживы,

Rather, he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined.

но был бы страннолюбив, любил бы добро, был бы целомудрен, справедлив, благочестив, обладающим собой,

He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.

держался бы верного слова, согласного с учением, для того, чтобы он был силен и наставлять в учении здравом и возражающих обличать.

For there are many rebellious people, full of meaningless talk and deception, especially those of the circumcision group.

Ибо есть много непокорных, пустословов и обманщиков, особенно из обрезанных,

They must be silenced, because they are disrupting whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach — and that for the sake of dishonest gain.

которым необходимо заграждать уста, им, которые разрушают целые дома, уча, чему не должно, из постыдной корысти.

One of Crete’s own prophets has said it: “Cretans are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons.”c

Сказал же некто из них, их собственный пророк: Критяне всегда лжецы, злые звери, обжоры ленивые.

This saying is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith

Свидетельство это истинно. По этой причине обличай их строго, чтобы они были здравы в вере,

and will pay no attention to Jewish myths or to the merely human commands of those who reject the truth.

не внимая иудейским басням и заповедям людей, отвращающихся от истины.

To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted.

Всё чисто для чистых; для осквернённых же и неверных нет ничего чистого, но осквернены и ум их и совесть.

They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.

Они утверждают, что знают Бога, делами же отрекаются, будучи мерзки и непокорны и ни к какому доброму делу неспособны.
