В эти дни, когда умножалось число учеников, возник ропот у еллинистов на евреев за то, что вдовы их были пренебрегаемы в ежедневном обслуживании.

In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Hellenistic Jewsa among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food.

Тогда Двенадцать, созвав собрание всех учеников, сказали: не приличествует нам, оставив слово Божие, обслуживать столы,

So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables.

Отберите же, братья, из своей среды семь мужей, имеющих доброе свидетельство, полных Духа и мудрости. Им поручим эту службу.

Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them

Мы же будем постоянно пребывать в молитве и служении слова.

and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.”

И угодно было предложение всему собранию. И они избрали Стефана, мужа полного веры и Духа Святого, и Филиппа, и Прохора, и Никанора, и Тимона, и Пармена, и Николая, прозелита Антиохийца.

This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism.

Их поставили перед апостолами, и те, помолившись, возложили на них руки.

They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them.

И слово Божие росло, и сильно умножалось число учеников в Иерусалиме, и очень много священников подчинялось вере.

So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.

Стефан же, полный благодати и силы, творил чудеса и знамения великие в народе.

Now Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and power, performed great wonders and signs among the people.

И восстали некоторые из входивших в синагогу, называемую синагогой либертинцев, киринейцев и александрийцев и из тех, что были из Киликии и Асии; споря со Стефаном,

Opposition arose, however, from members of the Synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called) — Jews of Cyrene and Alexandria as well as the provinces of Cilicia and Asia — who began to argue with Stephen.

они не могли противостать мудрости и Духу, Которым он говорил.

But they could not stand up against the wisdom the Spirit gave him as he spoke.

Тогда они подослали людей, говоривших: мы слышали, как он говорил слова хулы на Моисея и на Бога.

Then they secretly persuaded some men to say, “We have heard Stephen speak blasphemous words against Moses and against God.”

И они привели в движение народ и старейшин и книжников, и напав, схватили его и повели в синедрион.

So they stirred up the people and the elders and the teachers of the law. They seized Stephen and brought him before the Sanhedrin.

И выставили ложных свидетелей, говоривших: этот человек не перестает говорить слова против святого места этого и Закона.

They produced false witnesses, who testified, “This fellow never stops speaking against this holy place and against the law.

Ибо мы слышали, как он говорил, что этот Иисус Назорей разрушит место это и переменит те обычаи, которые предал нам Моисей.

For we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place and change the customs Moses handed down to us.”

И устремив на него взгляд, все сидящие в синедрионе увидели лицо его, как лицо ангела.

All who were sitting in the Sanhedrin looked intently at Stephen, and they saw that his face was like the face of an angel.
