But all this I laid to heart, examining it all, how the righteous and the wise and their deeds are in the hand of God. Whether it is love or hate, man does not know; both are before him.

На всё э́то я обрати́л се́рдце моё для иссле́дования, что пра́ведные и му́дрые и дея́ния их — в руке́ Бо́жией, и что челове́к ни любви́, ни не́нависти не зна́ет во всём том, что пе́ред ним.

It is the same for all, since the same event happens to the righteous and the wicked, to the good and the evil,a to the clean and the unclean, to him who sacrifices and him who does not sacrifice. As the good one is, so is the sinner, and he who swears is as he who shuns an oath.

Всему́ и всем — одно́: одна́ у́часть пра́веднику и нечести́вому, до́брому и зло́му, чи́стому и нечи́стому, принося́щему же́ртву и не принося́щему же́ртвы; как доброде́тельному, так и гре́шнику; как кляну́щемуся, так и боя́щемуся кля́твы.

This is an evil in all that is done under the sun, that the same event happens to all. Also, the hearts of the children of man are full of evil, and madness is in their hearts while they live, and after that they go to the dead.

Э́то-то и ху́до во всём, что де́лается под со́лнцем, что одна́ у́часть всем, и се́рдце сыно́в челове́ческих испо́лнено зла, и безу́мие в се́рдце их, в жи́зни их; а по́сле того́ они́ отхо́дят к уме́ршим.

But he who is joined with all the living has hope, for a living dog is better than a dead lion.

Кто нахо́дится ме́жду живы́ми, тому́ есть ещё наде́жда, так как и псу живо́му лу́чше, не́жели мёртвому льву.

For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing, and they have no more reward, for the memory of them is forgotten.

Живы́е зна́ют, что умру́т, а мёртвые ничего́ не зна́ют, и уже́ нет им воздая́ния, потому́ что и па́мять о них пре́дана забве́нию,

Their love and their hate and their envy have already perished, and forever they have no more share in all that is done under the sun.

и любо́вь их и не́нависть их и ре́вность их уже́ исче́зли, и нет им бо́лее ча́сти вове́ки ни в чём, что де́лается под со́лнцем.

Go, eat your bread with joy, and drink your wine with a merry heart, for God has already approved what you do.

Ита́к иди́, ешь с весе́льем хлеб твой, и пей в ра́дости се́рдца вино́ твоё, когда́ Бог благоволи́т к дела́м твои́м.

Let your garments be always white. Let not oil be lacking on your head.

Да бу́дут во вся́кое вре́мя оде́жды твои́ светлы́, и да не оскудева́ет еле́й на голове́ твое́й.

Enjoy life with the wife whom you love, all the days of your vainb life that he has given you under the sun, because that is your portion in life and in your toil at which you toil under the sun.

Наслажда́йся жи́знью с жено́ю, кото́рую лю́бишь, во все дни су́етной жи́зни твое́й, и кото́рую дал тебе́ Бог под со́лнцем на все су́етные дни твои́; потому́ что э́то — до́ля твоя́ в жи́зни и в труда́х твои́х, каки́ми ты тру́дишься под со́лнцем.

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might,c for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going.

Всё, что мо́жет рука́ твоя́ де́лать, по си́лам де́лай; потому́ что в моги́ле, куда́ ты пойдёшь, нет ни рабо́ты, ни размышле́ния, ни зна́ния, ни му́дрости.

Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to those with knowledge, but time and chance happen to them all.

И обрати́лся я, и ви́дел под со́лнцем, что не прово́рным достаётся успе́шный бег, не хра́брым — побе́да, не му́дрым — хлеб, и не у разу́мных — бога́тство, и не иску́сным — благорасположе́ние, но вре́мя и слу́чай для всех их.

For man does not know his time. Like fish that are taken in an evil net, and like birds that are caught in a snare, so the children of man are snared at an evil time, when it suddenly falls upon them.

И́бо челове́к не зна́ет своего́ вре́мени. Как ры́бы попада́ются в па́губную сеть, и как пти́цы запу́тываются в силка́х, так сыны́ челове́ческие уловля́ются в бе́дственное вре́мя, когда́ оно́ неожи́данно нахо́дит на них.

I have also seen this example of wisdom under the sun, and it seemed great to me.

Вот ещё каку́ю му́дрость ви́дел я под со́лнцем, и она́ показа́лась мне ва́жною:

There was a little city with few men in it, and a great king came against it and besieged it, building great siegeworks against it.

го́род небольшо́й, и люде́й в нём немно́го; к нему́ подступи́л вели́кий царь и обложи́л его́ и произвёл про́тив него́ больши́е оса́дные рабо́ты;

But there was found in it a poor, wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city. Yet no one remembered that poor man.

но в нём нашёлся му́дрый бедня́к, и он спас свое́ю му́дростью э́тот го́род; и, одна́ко же, никто́ не вспомина́л об э́том бе́дном челове́ке.

But I say that wisdom is better than might, though the poor man’s wisdom is despised and his words are not heard.

И сказа́л я: му́дрость лу́чше си́лы, и, одна́ко же, му́дрость бедняка́ пренебрега́ется, и слов его́ не слу́шают.

The words of the wise heard in quiet are better than the shouting of a ruler among fools.

Слова́ му́дрых, вы́сказанные споко́йно, выслу́шиваются лу́чше, не́жели крик властели́на ме́жду глу́пыми.

Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good.

Му́дрость лу́чше во́инских ору́дий; но оди́н погреши́вший погу́бит мно́го до́брого.
