The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

Дорогой Феофил, В первой книге я написал обо всём, что Иисус делал и чему учил,

Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

вплоть до дня, когда, дав наставления через Святого Духа своим избранным посланникам, он был взят на небеса.

To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

После своей смерти он являлся им и предоставил множество убедительных доказательств того, что он жив. В течение сорока дней они видели его, и он беседовал с ними о Божьем Царстве.

And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

Во время одного из таких собраний он дал им указания не покидать Иерушалаим, но ожидать, "что обещал Отец, о чём вы слышали от меня.

For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

Ибо Иоанн погружал людей в воде; но через несколько дней вы будете погружены в Святого Духа!"

When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

Собравшись вместе, они спросили его: "Господь, не в это ли время ты восстановишь самодержавие в Израиле?"

And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

Он ответил: "Вам не нужно знать времена и сроки; Отец хранит это в Своей власти.

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Но вы получите силу, когда на вас сойдёт Святой Дух, вы будете моими свидетелями как в Иерусалиме, так и по всей Иудее и Самарии, и даже до края земли!"

And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

После этих слов он был взят у них на глазах; и облако скрыло его от их взора.

And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;

Они внимательно смотрели в небеса ему вслед, как вдруг заметили двух мужчин в белом, стоявших рядом с ними.

Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

Те сказали: "Галилеяне! Что вы стоите и глядите в небо? Этот Иисус, который был взят от вас на небеса, вернётся точно так же, как вы видели его уходящим туда".

Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey.

После этого они возвратились в Иерусалим с Масличной горы, находившейся от него на расстоянии Субботнего пути.

And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.

Придя в город, они поднялись в верхнюю комнату, в которой жили. Посланников звали Петр, Иаков, Иоанн, Андрей, Филипп, Фома, Варфоломей, Матфей, Иаков Алфеев, Симон "Зелот" и Иуда, сын Иакова.

These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

Все они единодушно посвятили себя молитве вместе с некоторыми женщинами, среди которых была Мария (мать Иисуса), а также с его братьями.

And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,)

В те дни, когда группа верующих насчитывала около ста двадцати человек, Петр встал и обратился к своим товарищам:

Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.

"Братья, Святой Дух предсказывал через Давида о Иуде, и эти слова Еврейских Писаний должны были исполниться. Он вел людей, арестовавших Иисуса —

For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.

он был одним из нас и участвовал в общем деле".

Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.

(На деньги, полученные им за своё грязное дело, Иуда купил поле; и там он пал насмерть. Тело его вздулось и лопнуло, и все внутренности выпали из него.

And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.

Это стало известным всем жителям Иерусалима, и они назвали то поле "Акелдама", что на их языке означает "Поле крови")

For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take.

"Также, — сказал Петр, — в книге Псалмов сказано: 'Да будет опустошено жилище его, и да не будет живущего в нём;' и 'Пусть другой возьмёт на себя руководство вместо него'.

Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,

Поэтому один из тех, кто постоянно находился среди нас все время, когда Господь Иисус ходил с нами,

Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

с того момента, когда Иоанн стал проводить погружение, и до того дня, когда Иисус был взят от нас, должен стать проповедником его воскресения вместе с нами".

And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.

Они выдвинули двоих — Иосифа Варсаву, названного Иустом, и Матфея.

And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,

Затем они помолились: "Господь, Ты знаешь сердце каждого. Укажи нам, кого из этих двоих Ты избрал,

That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.

чтобы принять служение и должность посланника от Иуды, которые тот оставил, чтобы отправиться туда, где ему и следует быть".

And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

Затем они бросили жребий, чтобы выбрать одного из них, и жребий выпал Матфею. Итак, он был причислен к одиннадцати посланникам.
