The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

В первую книгу, Tеофил, я включил все, что с самого начала совершал и чему учил Иисус

Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

Вплоть до того дня, когда Он Святым Духом наставил избранных Им апостолов и вознесся на небо.

To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

Перед ними Он и предстал уже после страдания живым и в течение сорока дней со всей очевидностью являлся им не один раз. А говорил о Божьем Царстве.

And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

Как-то за трапезой Иисус сказал, чтобы они не отлучались из Иерусалима и ждали обещанного дара: «Об этом обещании Отца вы знаете. Я уже говорил вам о нем:

For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

Иоанн крестил водой, а вы недалекими днями будете крещены Святым Духом».

When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

И вот так сидя рядом с Ним, они спрашивали: «Господи! Теперь Ты наконец вернешь царство Израилю, да?».

And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

Он отвечал им: «Не вам знать времена и сроки, которые Отец расставил Своей властью.

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Зато на вас сойдет Святой Дух. От Него будет вам сила, и пойдете Моими свидетелями из Иерусалима по всей Иудее, Самарии — и до крайних пределов земли».

And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

После этих слов Он на их глазах поднялся в небо, и облако скрыло Его из виду.

And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;

Он ушел в небо, а они все смотрели и смотрели. Вдруг предстали перед ними два человека в белых одеждах

Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

И говорят: «Галилеяне! Зачем стоите, возведя к небу взоры? Иисус, от вас на небо вознесенный, вернется точно таким же манером, как ушел туда на ваших глазах».

Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey.

Пройдя недлинный субботний путь, они с Масличной горы вернулись в Иерусалим.

And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.

Пришли и поднялись к себе наверх. Здесь они жили и здесь Петр, Иоанн, Иаков, Андрей, Филипп, Фома, Варфоломей, Матфей, Иаков Алфеев, Симон Зелот и Иуда, сын Иакова,

These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

Вместе с женщинами, среди которых была Мария, Мать Иисуса, и с Его братьями, всегда дружно собирались на молитву.

And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,)

В те дни Петр встал посреди собрания братьев, а было их там всех вместе около ста двадцати человек, и сказал:

Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.

«Мужи братья! Не могло не исполниться Писание, где устами Давида Святой Дух предрек об Иуде, который привел тех, кто схватил Иисуса.

For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.

Он считался одним из нас и занимал свое место в служении.

Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.

За преступную мзду он приобрел участок и там низвергся лицом в землю и лопнул чревом. Все его внутренности вывалились.

And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.

Об этом стало известно жителям Иерусалима, и тогда они на своем языке назвали этот участок Полем крови — Акелдамах.

For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take.

Написано в Книге Псалмов: “Землю его да постигнет запустение и да не жить никому в его доме!” и еще: “Полномочие его да примет другой!”

Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,

И теперь одному из постоянных спутников Господа Иисуса во время Его хождения с нами из края в край, —

Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

С момента Иоаннова крещения до того дня, когда Он был вознесен от нас на небо, — нужно войти в наш круг свидетелей Его воскресения».

And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.

И предложили двоих: Иосифа, или Варсаву, по прозванию Юст, и Матфия.

And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,

И с молитвой говорили: «Ты, Господи Провидец, дай знать, которого из двух Ты избрал

That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.

На место апостольского служения, поскольку не удержался на нем Иуда, ушел туда, где ему следует быть».

And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

Бросили жребий, и выпало Матфию. Он и был причтен к одиннадцати апостолам.
