Случилось там быть одному негодному человеку по имени Шева, сыну Бихри, вениаминитянину. Он протрубил в рог и сказал: «У Давида нет для нас удела, нет наследия нам у сына Иессея — расходись, Израиль, по своим шатрам!»

Now a worthless fellow happened to be there whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjamite; and he blew the trumpet and said, “We have no portion in David, Nor do we have inheritance in the son of Jesse; Every man to his tents, O Israel!”

И все израильтяне отступились от Давида и последовали за Шевой, сыном Бихри. Иудеи же неотлучно оставались со своим царем, сопровождая его от Иордана до Иерусалима.

So all the men of Israel withdrew from following David and followed Sheba the son of Bichri; but the men of Judah remained steadfast to their king, from the Jordan even to Jerusalem.

Вернувшись в свой дворец в Иерусалиме, царь Давид взял десять наложниц, которых оставлял присматривать за дворцом, и поселил под охраной. Он их содержал, но не спал с ними; так они и жили затворницами, как вдовы, до самой смерти.

Then David came to his house at Jerusalem, and the king took the ten women, the concubines whom he had left to keep the house, and placed them under guard and provided them with sustenance, but did not go in to them. So they were shut up until the day of their death, living as widows.

Царь велел Амасе: «Собери мне иудеев в течение трех дней и сам будь здесь».

Then the king said to Amasa, “Call out the men of Judah for me within three days, and be present here yourself.”

Амаса пошел собирать иудеев, но не справился с поручением царя, не успел к назначенному сроку.

So Amasa went to call out the men of Judah, but he delayed longer than the set time which he had appointed him.

Тогда Давид сказал Авишаю: «Теперь Шева, сын Бихри, станет для нас опаснее Авессалома. Возьми слуг своего владыки и отправляйся в погоню за ним, чтобы он не добрался до укрепленных городов и не ускользнул от нас».

And David said to Abishai, “Now Sheba the son of Bichri will do us more harm than Absalom; take your lord’s servants and pursue him, so that he does not find for himself fortified cities and escape from our sight.”

Вышли из Иерусалима люди Йоава, вместе с ними керетеи и пелетеи и все крепкие воины, и пустились они в погоню за Шевой, сыном Бихри.

So Joab’s men went out after him, along with the Cherethites and the Pelethites and all the mighty men; and they went out from Jerusalem to pursue Sheba the son of Bichri.

Когда они уже подошли к большой скале в Гивоне, перед ними появился Амаса. Йоав был опоясан поверх одежды, и на бедре у него был меч в ножнах, который выпадал из них, если он наклонялся вперед.

When they were at the large stone which is in Gibeon, Amasa came to meet them. Now Joab was dressed in his military attire, and over it was a belt with a sword in its sheath fastened at his waist; and as he went forward, it fell out.

Йоав приветствовал Амасу: «Как поживаешь, брат мой?» — и правой рукой взял его за бороду, чтобы поцеловать.

Joab said to Amasa, “Is it well with you, my brother?” And Joab took Amasa by the beard with his right hand to kiss him.

Амаса не заметил, как меч оказался в левой руке Йоава, и тот нанес ему удар в живот, так что внутренности вывалились на землю, — второй удар был уже не нужен, он умер. Затем Йоав и брат его Авишай двинулись дальше, продолжая погоню за Шевой, сыном Бихри.

But Amasa was not on guard against the sword which was in Joab’s hand so he struck him in the belly with it and poured out his inward parts on the ground, and did not strike him again, and he died. Then Joab and Abishai his brother pursued Sheba the son of Bichri.

Один из воинов Йоава, стоявший неподалеку от убитого Амаса, говорил всем: «Кто предан Йоаву, кто за Давида — иди за Йоавом!»

Now there stood by him one of Joab’s young men, and said, “Whoever favors Joab and whoever is for David, let him follow Joab.”

Но посреди большой дороги в луже крови лежало тело Амасы, и воин заметил, что народ там останавливается. Тогда он оттащил тело Амасы с дороги в поле и прикрыл одеждой, ведь всякий проходивший останавливался над ним.

But Amasa lay wallowing in his blood in the middle of the highway. And when the man saw that all the people stood still, he removed Amasa from the highway into the field and threw a garment over him when he saw that everyone who came by him stood still.

Лишь только его убрали с дороги, весь народ во главе с Йоавом продолжил погоню за Шевой, сыном Бихри.

As soon as he was removed from the highway, all the men passed on after Joab to pursue Sheba the son of Bichri.

А Шева прошел по всем родам Израилевым до Авеля-Бет-Маахи и через Берим прошел, собирая по пути вокруг себя сторонников.1

Now he went through all the tribes of Israel to Abel, even Beth-maacah, and all the Berites; and they were gathered together and also went after him.

Йоав и его воины тем временем подступили к Авелю-Бет-Маахе и осадили его: насыпали осадный вал напротив внешних укреплений и начали рушить городскую стену.

They came and besieged him in Abel Beth-maacah, and they cast up a siege ramp against the city, and it stood by the rampart; and all the people who were with Joab were wreaking destruction in order to topple the wall.

Одна мудрая женщина, что была на крепостной стене, стала кричать: «Послушайте, послушайте! Прошу, позовите Йоава, пусть подойдет, и я поговорю с ним».

Then a wise woman called from the city, “Hear, hear! Please tell Joab, ‘Come here that I may speak with you.’”

Тот подошел, и женщина спросила: «Ты ли Йоав?» «Да, это я», — отозвался Иоав. «Выслушай, — попросила она, — что скажет твоя служанка!» «Я слушаю», — отвечал он.

So he approached her, and the woman said, “Are you Joab?” And he answered, “I am.” Then she said to him, “Listen to the words of your maidservant.” And he answered, “I am listening.”

«Прежде была поговорка: „Если спрашивать, то в Авеле!“ — так и решали дело, — продолжила женщина. —

Then she spoke, saying, “Formerly they used to say, ‘They will surely ask advice at Abel,’ and thus they ended the dispute.

Мы — мирный и верный Израилю город, а ты собираешься уничтожить город, который был Израилю матерью! Зачем тебе истреблять наследие ГОСПОДНЕ?»

“I am of those who are peaceable and faithful in Israel. You are seeking to destroy a city, even a mother in Israel. Why would you swallow up the inheritance of the LORD?”

«Нет, нет, ни за что не истреблю и не разрушу, — сказал в ответ Йоав, —

Joab replied, “Far be it, far be it from me that I should swallow up or destroy!

дело только в человеке с Ефремова нагорья по имени Шева, сыне Бихри. Он поднял руку на царя Давида. Выдайте его, и я сниму осаду». Тогда женщина сказала Йоаву: «Ты увидишь, как сейчас его голову перебросят тебе через стену».

“Such is not the case. But a man from the hill country of Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, has lifted up his hand against King David. Only hand him over, and I will depart from the city.” And the woman said to Joab, “Behold, his head will be thrown to you over the wall.”

Женщина пошла и своим мудрым словом убедила весь народ. И Шеве, сыну Бихри, отсекли голову и перебросили ее Йоаву. Тот протрубил в рог, и все отступили от города и разошлись по своим шатрам, а Йоав вернулся к царю в Иерусалим.

Then the woman wisely came to all the people. And they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri and threw it to Joab. So he blew the trumpet, and they were dispersed from the city, each to his tent. Joab also returned to the king at Jerusalem.

Йоав командовал всем израильским войском; Беная, сын Ехояды, — керетеями и пелетеями;

Now Joab was over the whole army of Israel, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites;

Адорам — подневольными работниками. Иосафат, сын Ахилуда, был летописцем,

and Adoram was over the forced labor, and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was the recorder;

Шева — главным писцом, Цадок и Эвьятар — священниками.

and Sheva was scribe, and Zadok and Abiathar were priests;

Ира из Яира был священником у самого Давида.

and Ira the Jairite was also a priest to David.
