Иосафат отошел к праотцам и был похоронен в родовой гробнице в Городе Давидовом. После него взошел на престол его сын Иорам.

When Jehoshaphat died, he was buried with his ancestors in the City of David. Then his son Jehoram became the next king.

Были у него братья, сыновья Иосафата: Азарья, Ехиэль, Захария, Азарья, Михаил и Шефатья; все они были сыновьями Иосафата, царя Израилева.

Jehoram’s brothers — the other sons of Jehoshaphat — were Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Azariahu, Michael, and Shephatiah; all these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Judah.a

Отец щедро одарил их серебром, золотом и драгоценностями и дал во владение укрепленные города Иудеи; царство же он отдал своему первенцу Иораму.

Their father had given each of them valuable gifts of silver, gold, and costly items, and also some of Judah’s fortified towns. However, he designated Jehoram as the next king because he was the oldest.

Когда Иорам взошел на престол отца своего и власть его окрепла, он убил мечом всех своих братьев и некоторых вождей Израилевых.

But when Jehoram had become solidly established as king, he killed all his brothers and some of the other leaders of Judah.

Когда он взошел на престол, ему было тридцать два года, и восемь лет он правил в Иерусалиме.

Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years.

Он следовал по пути царей израильских, делал то же, что род Ахава, потому что был женат на дочери Ахава. И было то, что он делал, злом в глазах ГОСПОДА.

But Jehoram followed the example of the kings of Israel and was as wicked as King Ahab, for he had married one of Ahab’s daughters. So Jehoram did what was evil in the LORD’s sight.

Но ради Завета, Союза, заключенного с Давидом, Господь решил не губить Иудею, ведь ГОСПОДЬ обещал Давиду, что светильник рода его никогда не угаснет.

But the LORD did not want to destroy David’s dynasty, for he had made a covenant with David and promised that his descendants would continue to rule, shining like a lamp forever.

При Иораме восстали эдомитяне, отделились от Иудеи и избрали себе собственного царя.

During Jehoram’s reign, the Edomites revolted against Judah and crowned their own king.

Иорам вместе со своими военачальниками и колесничным войском выступил в поход против них. Ночью он отразил нападение эдомитян, окруживших его вместе с колесничным войском.

So Jehoram went out with his full army and all his chariots. The Edomites surrounded him and his chariot commanders, but he went out at night and attacked themb under cover of darkness.

Так Эдом вышел из-под власти Иудеи, он отделен и поныне. Тогда же против власти Иорама восстали и жители Ливны, потому что Иорам оставил ГОСПОДА, Бога отцов своих:

Even so, Edom has been independent from Judah to this day. The town of Libnah also revolted about that same time. All this happened because Jehoram had abandoned the LORD, the God of his ancestors.

понастроил капищ на горах иудейских, развратил жителей Иерусалима, сбил с пути истинного Иудею.

He had built pagan shrines in the hill country of Judah and had led the people of Jerusalem and Judah to give themselves to pagan gods and to go astray.

От пророка Илии пришло Иораму письмо, в котором говорилось: «Так говорит ГОСПОДЬ, Бог праотца твоего Давида. За то, что ты не поступал так же, как отец твой Иосафат и как Аса, царь иудейский,

Then Elijah the prophet wrote Jehoram this letter: “This is what the LORD, the God of your ancestor David, says: You have not followed the good example of your father, Jehoshaphat, or your grandfather King Asa of Judah.

но пошел по пути царей израильских и ввел Иудею и жителей Иерусалима в распутство, как делал всё это род Ахава, за то, что ты убил своих братьев, сыновей отца твоего, которые были лучше тебя, —

Instead, you have been as evil as the kings of Israel. You have led the people of Jerusalem and Judah to worship idols, just as King Ahab did in Israel. And you have even killed your own brothers, men who were better than you.

за это ГОСПОДЬ обрушит тяжкие беды на народ твой, и на жен твоих и сыновей, и на все достояние твое,

So now the LORD is about to strike you, your people, your children, your wives, and all that is yours with a heavy blow.

а тебя поразит страшной болезнью, которая будет длиться годами, пока внутренности твои не выпадут наружу».

You yourself will suffer with a severe intestinal disease that will get worse each day until your bowels come out.”

ГОСПОДЬ возбудил воинственный дух в филистимлянах и арабах, что были под властью кушитов.

Then the LORD stirred up the Philistines and the Arabs, who lived near the Ethiopians,c to attack Jehoram.

Они выступили против Иорама и ворвались в Иудею. Захватили они всё имущество царского дворца и сыновей и жен царя. Ни одного сына не осталось у царя, кроме младшего сына Охозии.1

They marched against Judah, broke down its defenses, and carried away everything of value in the royal palace, including the king’s sons and his wives. Only his youngest son, Ahaziah,d was spared.

После этого ГОСПОДЬ поразил внутренности Иорама неисцелимой болезнью.

After all this, the LORD struck Jehoram with an incurable intestinal disease.

День за днем она длилась, пока к концу второго года внутренности царя не выпали от болезни, и он умер в страшных муках. Народ не развел костра из благовоний в его память, как это делали в память его предков.2

The disease grew worse and worse, and at the end of two years it caused his bowels to come out, and he died in agony. His people did not build a great funeral fire to honor him as they had done for his ancestors.

Было Иораму тридцать два года, когда стал он царем, восемь лет он правил в Иерусалиме. Он умер, никем не оплаканный, похоронили его в Городе Давидовом, но не в царских гробницах.

Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years. No one was sorry when he died. They buried him in the City of David, but not in the royal cemetery.
