У другі год царавання Дарыя, у першы дзень шостага месяца, Госпад прамовіў праз прарока Агея да Зарабабэля, сына Салаціэля, кіраўніка Юды, і да першасвятара Ешуа, сына Ёсэдэка, кажучы:

In the second year of King Darius, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,

«Вось што кажа Госпад Магуццяў, прамаўляючы: “Народ гэты кажа: не прыйшоў яшчэ час будаваць дом Госпадаў”».

“Thus speaks the Lord of hosts, saying: ‘This people says, “The time has not come, the time that the Lord’s house should be built.” ’ ”

І прамовіў Госпад праз прарока Агея, кажучы:

Then the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet, saying,

«Ці ж вам час жыць у дамах упрыгожаных, калі гэты дом у руінах?

“Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, and this [a]temple to lie in ruins?”

Ды цяпер вось што кажа Госпад Магуццяў: “Разважце ў сэрцах вашых шляхі вашы:

Now therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts: “Consider your ways!

вы сееце многа і збіраеце мала; ясцё і не насычаецеся; п’яце і не п’янееце; апранаецеся і не саграваецеся; і той, хто працуе, каб зарабіць, кідае плату ў дзіравы мяшэчак!”

“You have sown much, and bring in little; You eat, but do not have enough; You drink, but you are not filled with drink; You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; And he who earns wages, Earns wages to put into a bag with holes.”

Вось што кажа Госпад Магуццяў: “Разважце ў сэрцах вашых шляхі вашы.

Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Consider your ways!

Узыдзіце на гару, загатуйце дрэва і пабудуйце дом, і ён будзе Мне мілы, і ў ім буду праслаўлены, — кажа Госпад.

Go up to the mountains and bring wood and build the [b]temple, that I may take pleasure in it and be glorified,” says the Lord.

Спадзяваліся вы многа, і вось, атрымалася мала, і ўнеслі ў дом, і Я рассеяў гэта. А з якой прычыны? — кажа Госпад Магуццяў, — дзеля Майго дома, што ляжыць у развалінах, і вы кожны спяшаецеся ў дом свой.

“You looked for much, but indeed it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?” says the Lord of hosts. “Because of My house that is in ruins, while every one of you runs to his own house.

Таму, вось, нябёсы замкнуты над вамі, каб не спускалі расы, і зямлі забаронена, каб не давала пладоў сваіх.

Therefore the heavens above you withhold the dew, and the earth withholds its fruit.

І Я выклікаў засуху на зямлю, і на горы, і на пшаніцу, і на віно, і на аліўкавы алей, ды на ўсё, што родзіць зямля, і на людзей, і на жывёлу, і на ўсякую працу ручную”».

For I called for a drought on the land and the mountains, on the grain and the new wine and the oil, on whatever the ground brings forth, on men and livestock, and on all the labor of your hands.”

І Зарабабэль, сын Салаціэля, і першасвятар Ешуа, сын Ёсэдэка, і ўвесь астатак народа пачулі голас Госпада, Бога свайго, і словы прарока Агея, так як Госпад, Бог іх, паслаў яго да іх; і народ праняўся страхам перад Госпадам.

Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the Lord their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the Lord their God had sent him; and the people feared the presence of the Lord.

І Агей, пасланец Госпадаў, прамовіў паводле прыказання Госпада, кажучы народу: «“Я з вамі”, — кажа Госпад».

Then Haggai, the Lord’s messenger, spoke the Lord’s message to the people, saying, “I am with you, says the Lord.”

Ды ўзбудзіў Госпад дух Зарабабэля, сына Салаціэля, кіраўніка Юды, і дух першасвятара Ешуа, сына Ёсэдэка, і дух усяго астатку народа; і прыйшлі яны, і ўзяліся за будаўніцтва дома Госпада Магуццяў, Бога свайго.

So the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and worked on the house of the Lord of hosts, their God,

Дваццаць чацвёртага дня шостага месяца, у другі год цара Дарыя.

on the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month, in the second year of King Darius.
