Сатана был против израильтян. Он подстрекнул Давида пересчитать народ Израиля.

And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.

Тогда Давид сказал Иоаву и вождям народа: «Пойдите и пересчитайте всех израильтян в стране, от Вирсавии до Дана, чтобы я знал их число».

And David said to Joab and to the rulers of the people, Go, number Israel from Beersheba even to Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it.

Но Иоав ответил: «Пусть Господь сделает Свой народ во сто раз многочисленнее! Господин, все израильтяне — твои слуги. Для чего ты хочешь сделать это, мой господин царь? Ты сделаешь весь народ Израиля виновным в грехе!»

And Joab answered, The LORD make his people an hundred times so many more as they be: but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord's servants? why then doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of trespass to Israel?

Но Давид настоял на своём, и поэтому Иоаву пришлось сделать то, что приказал царь. Иоав прошёл через всю Израильскую страну, пересчитывая людей, а затем вернулся в Иерусалим

Nevertheless the king's word prevailed against Joab. Wherefore Joab departed, and went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem.

и сообщил Давиду, сколько всего было человек. В Израиле был один миллион сто тысяч человек, а в Иудее было четыреста семьдесят тысяч человек, умеющих пользоваться мечом.

And Joab gave the sum of the number of the people unto David. And all they of Israel were a thousand thousand and an hundred thousand men that drew sword: and Judah was four hundred threescore and ten thousand men that drew sword.

Иоав не пересчитал колено Левия и Вениамина, потому что ему не нравился приказ царя Давида.

But Levi and Benjamin counted he not among them: for the king's word was abominable to Joab.

Давид совершил зло в глазах Бога, и поэтому Он наказал Израиль.

And God was displeased with this thing; therefore he smote Israel.

Тогда Давид сказал Богу: «Я поступил безрассудно. Я совершил великий грех, пересчитав народ Израиля, и теперь я молю Тебя, сними этот грех с меня, Твоего слуги».

And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly, because I have done this thing: but now, I beseech thee, do away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.

Господь сказал Гаду, провидцу Давида:

And the LORD spake unto Gad, David's seer, saying,

«Пойди и скажи Давиду: „Так говорит Господь: „Я предоставлю тебе право выбрать одно из трёх наказаний. Я накажу тебя согласно твоему выбору”».

Go and tell David, saying, Thus saith the LORD, I offer thee three things: choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.

Затем Гад пошёл к Давиду и обратился к нему с такими словами: «Господь говорит: „Давид, выбери,

So Gad came to David, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Choose thee

какое наказание ты хочешь: три года голода или чтобы вы три месяца убегали от своих врагов, которые будут преследовать вас со своими мечами, или три дня наказания от Господа. Страшная болезнь распространится по всей стране, и Ангел Господа будет ходить по Израилю, уничтожая людей”. Давид, Бог послал меня. Теперь ты должен решить, какой ответ я должен дать Ему».

Either three years' famine; or three months to be destroyed before thy foes, while that the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee; or else three days the sword of the LORD, even the pestilence, in the land, and the angel of the LORD destroying throughout all the coasts of Israel. Now therefore advise thyself what word I shall bring again to him that sent me.

Давид сказал Гаду: «Я в беде! Я не хочу, чтобы люди решали моё наказание. Господь очень милостив, пусть Он решает, как наказать меня».

And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall now into the hand of the LORD; for very great are his mercies: but let me not fall into the hand of man.

Тогда Господь послал на Израиль страшную болезнь, и умерло семьдесят тысяч человек.

So the LORD sent pestilence upon Israel: and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.

Бог послал Ангела уничтожить Иерусалим, но, когда Ангел стал истреблять людей, живших в этом городе, Господь увидел это и сжалился, и решил не уничтожать Иерусалим. Господь сказал Ангелу, который убивал людей: «Остановись! Довольно!» В то время Ангел Господа стоял у молотилки Орны иевусеянина.

And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was destroying, the LORD beheld, and he repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD stood by the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.

Давид поднял глаза и увидел Ангела Господа в небесах, который держал свой меч над Иерусалимом. Тогда Давид и старейшины пали ниц и поклонились до земли. Давид и старейшины были одеты в особые одежды, чтобы выразить свою печаль.

And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the LORD stand between the earth and the heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders of Israel, who were clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces.

Давид сказал Богу: «Я один согрешил! Я приказал пересчитать народ! Я сделал зло! Народ Израиля не сделал ничего плохого! Господи, мой Бог, накажи только меня и мою семью, только останови страшную болезнь, которая убивает мой народ!»

And David said unto God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have sinned and done evil indeed; but as for these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, O LORD my God, be on me, and on my father's house; but not on thy people, that they should be plagued.

Тогда Ангел Господа сказал Гаду: «Прикажи Давиду, чтобы он построил алтарь для поклонения Господу. Давид должен построить этот алтарь возле молотилки Орны иевусеянина».

Then the angel of the LORD commanded Gad to say to David, that David should go up, and set up an altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.

Гад передал Давиду слова Господа, и царь пошёл к молотилке Орны,

And David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spake in the name of the LORD.

который в то время молотил пшеницу. Оглянувшись, Орна увидел царя Давида, а его четверо сыновей убежали и спрятались.

And Ornan turned back, and saw the angel; and his four sons with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat.

Увидев Давида, Орна вышел с молотилки, а затем подошёл к Давиду и низко поклонился ему до самой земли.

And as David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David, and went out of the threshingfloor, and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground.

Давид сказал Орне: «Продай мне свою молотилку. Я заплачу тебе полную стоимость. Я построю на этом месте алтарь для поклонения Господу. Тогда придёт конец страшной болезни народа».

Then David said to Ornan, Grant me the place of this threshingfloor, that I may build an altar therein unto the LORD: thou shalt grant it me for the full price: that the plague may be stayed from the people.

Орна ответил Давиду: «Ты можешь забрать её себе! Ты — мой господин и царь, делай, что тебе угодно. Я дам тебе и скот для жертвы всесожжения, молотильные орудия на дрова и пшеницу для хлебного приношения. Всё это отдам тебе даром!»

And Ornan said unto David, Take it to thee, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes: lo, I give thee the oxen also for burnt offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meat offering; I give it all.

Но царь ответил Орне: «Нет, я заплачу тебе полную стоимость. Я не могу отдать Господу то, что принадлежит тебе. Я не буду приносить во всесожжение то, что досталось мне даром».

And king David said to Ornan, Nay; but I will verily buy it for the full price: for I will not take that which is thine for the LORD, nor offer burnt offerings without cost.

Тогда Давид дал Орне за это место около 600 шекелей золота.

So David gave to Ornan for the place six hundred shekels of gold by weight.

Царь построил там алтарь для поклонения Господу и принёс на нём всесожжения и жертвы содружества. Когда Давид молился Господу, Он ответил Давиду, послав с небес огонь на алтарь жертвы всесожжения.

And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called upon the LORD; and he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt offering.

Затем Господь приказал Ангелу вложить меч в ножны.

And the LORD commanded the angel; and he put up his sword again into the sheath thereof.

Когда Давид увидел, что Господь ответил на его молитву у молотилки Орны иевусеянина, царь принёс там жертвы Господу.

At that time when David saw that the LORD had answered him in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there.

Священный шатёр и алтарь для приношения жертв всесожжения находились на высоте в городе Гаваон. Моисей поставил этот шатёр, когда народ Израиля был в пустыне.

For the tabernacle of the LORD, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of the burnt offering, were at that season in the high place at Gibeon.

Давид не мог пойти в священный шатёр, чтобы говорить с Богом, потому что боялся меча Ангела Господа.

But David could not go before it to inquire of God: for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of the LORD.
