Then the Ziphites came to Saul at Gibeah, saying, “Is not David hiding himself on the hill of Hachilah, which is on the east of Jeshimon?”

И҆ прїидо́ша зїфе́є ѿ зно́йныѧ къ саѹ́лѹ на хо́лмъ, глаго́люще: сѐ, даві́дъ скры́сѧ ѹ҆ на́съ на холмѣ̀ є҆хела́ѳъ, прѧ́мѡ ї҆ессемо́нѹ.

So Saul arose and went down to the wilderness of Ziph with three thousand chosen men of Israel to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph.

И҆ воста̀ саѹ́лъ, и҆ сни́де въ пѹсты́ню зі́фъ, и҆ съ ни́мъ трѝ ты́сѧщы мѹже́й и҆збра́нныхъ ѿ ї҆и҃лѧ, и҆ска́ти даві́да въ пѹсты́ни зі́фъ.

And Saul encamped on the hill of Hachilah, which is beside the road on the east of Jeshimon. But David remained in the wilderness. When he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness,

И҆ ѡ҆полчи́сѧ саѹ́лъ на холмѣ̀ є҆хела́ѳъ и҆́же прѧ́мѡ ї҆ессемо́нѹ при пѹтѝ, даві́дъ же сѣдѧ́ше въ пѹсты́ни. И҆ ви́дѣ даві́дъ, ѩ҆́кѡ и҆́детъ саѹ́лъ в̾слѣ́дъ є҆гѡ̀ въ пѹсты́ню,

David sent out spies and learned that Saul had indeed come.

и҆ посла̀ даві́дъ соглѧда҄таи, и҆ разѹмѣ̀, ѩ҆́кѡ и҆́детъ саѹ́лъ гото́въ и҆з̾ кеі́лѧ:

Then David rose and came to the place where Saul had encamped. And David saw the place where Saul lay, with Abner the son of Ner, the commander of his army. Saul was lying within the encampment, while the army was encamped around him.

и҆ воста̀ даві́дъ ѡ҆́тай, и҆ вни́де въ мѣ́сто, и҆дѣ́же почива́ше саѹ́лъ, и҆ та́мѡ бѧ́ше а҆вени́ръ сы́нъ ни́ровъ, пе́рвый воево́да є҆гѡ̀, и҆ саѹ́лъ спа́ше въ колесни́цѣ ца́рстѣй, и҆ лю́дїе ѡ҆полчи́вшесѧ ѡ҆́крестъ є҆гѡ̀.

Then David said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Joab’s brother Abishai the son of Zeruiah, “Who will go down with me into the camp to Saul?” And Abishai said, “I will go down with you.”

И҆ ѿвѣща̀ даві́дъ и҆ речѐ ко а҆вїмеле́хѹ хетте́инѹ и҆ ко а҆ве́ссѣ сы́нѹ сарѹ́инѹ бра́тѹ ї҆ѡа́влю, глаго́лѧ: кто̀ вни́детъ со мно́ю къ саѹ́лѹ въ по́лкъ; И҆ речѐ а҆ве́сса: а҆́зъ вни́дѹ съ тобо́ю.

So David and Abishai went to the army by night. And there lay Saul sleeping within the encampment, with his spear stuck in the ground at his head, and Abner and the army lay around him.

И҆ внидо́ста даві́дъ и҆ а҆ве́сса въ лю́ди но́щїю: и҆ сѐ, саѹ́лъ спѧ́й сно́мъ въ колесни́цѣ ца́рстѣй, и҆ копїѐ є҆гѡ̀ водрѹже́но въ зе́млю при главѣ̀ є҆гѡ̀, а҆вени́ръ же и҆ во́ини є҆гѡ̀ спа́хѹ ѡ҆́крестъ є҆гѡ̀.

Then Abishai said to David, “God has given your enemy into your hand this day. Now please let me pin him to the earth with one stroke of the spear, and I will not strike him twice.”

И҆ речѐ а҆ве́сса къ даві́дѹ: заключѝ гд҇ь дне́сь врага̀ твоего̀ въ рѹ́цѣ твоѝ, и҆ нн҃ѣ поражѹ̀ є҆го̀ копїе́мъ въ зе́млю є҆ди́ножды, и҆ не повторю̀ є҆мѹ̀.

But David said to Abishai, “Do not destroy him, for who can put out his hand against the Lord’s anointed and be guiltless?”

И҆ речѐ даві́дъ ко а҆ве́ссѣ: не ѹ҆бива́й є҆гѡ̀, ѩ҆́кѡ кто̀ простре́тъ рѹ́кѹ свою̀ на хрїста̀ гд҇нѧ, и҆ непови́ненъ бѹ́детъ;

And David said, “As the Lord lives, the Lord will strike him, or his day will come to die, or he will go down into battle and perish.

И҆ речѐ даві́дъ: жи́въ гд҇ь, а҆́ще не гд҇ь порази́тъ є҆го̀, и҆лѝ де́нь є҆гѡ̀ прїи́детъ, и҆ ѹ҆́мретъ, и҆лѝ на бра́нь сни́детъ и҆ поги́бнетъ:

The Lord forbid that I should put out my hand against the Lord’s anointed. But take now the spear that is at his head and the jar of water, and let us go.”

да не бѹ́детъ мѝ ѿ гд҇а нанестѝ рѹ́кѹ мою̀ на хрїста̀ гд҇нѧ: и҆ нн҃ѣ возмѝ копїѐ ѿ возгла́вїѧ є҆гѡ̀ и҆ сосѹ́дъ водны́й, и҆ ѿи́демъ мы̀ ѡ҆ себѣ̀.

So David took the spear and the jar of water from Saul’s head, and they went away. No man saw it or knew it, nor did any awake, for they were all asleep, because a deep sleep from the Lord had fallen upon them.

И҆ взѧ̀ даві́дъ копїѐ и҆ сосѹ́дъ водны́й ѿ возгла́вїѧ є҆гѡ̀, и҆ ѿидо́ста ѡ҆ себѣ̀: и҆ не бѣ̀ и҆́же бы ви́дѣлъ и҆лѝ разѹмѣ́лъ, и҆ не бѧ́ше востаю́щагѡ, всѝ бо спа́хѹ, ѩ҆́кѡ со́нъ крѣ́покъ ѿ гд҇а нападѐ на нѧ̀.

Then David went over to the other side and stood far off on the top of the hill, with a great space between them.

И҆ пре́йде даві́дъ на ѡ҆́нъ по́лъ и҆ ста̀ на версѣ̀ горы̀ и҆здале́ча, и҆ мно́гъ бѣ̀ пѹ́ть междѹ̀ и҆́ми.

And David called to the army, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, “Will you not answer, Abner?” Then Abner answered, “Who are you who calls to the king?”

И҆ воззва̀ даві́дъ къ лю́демъ, и҆ а҆вени́рѹ речѐ глаго́лѧ: не ѿвѣща́еши ли, а҆вени́ре; И҆ ѿвѣща̀ а҆вени́ръ и҆ речѐ: кто̀ ты̀ є҆сѝ зовы́й мѧ̀;

And David said to Abner, “Are you not a man? Who is like you in Israel? Why then have you not kept watch over your lord the king? For one of the people came in to destroy the king your lord.

И҆ речѐ даві́дъ ко а҆вени́рѹ: не мѹ́жъ ли є҆сѝ ты̀; и҆ кто̀, ѩ҆́коже ты̀, во ї҆и҃ли; и҆ почто̀ не храни́ши господи́на твоегѡ̀ царѧ̀; ѩ҆́кѡ вни́де є҆ди́нъ ѿ люді́й ѹ҆би́ти господи́на твоего̀ царѧ̀:

This thing that you have done is not good. As the Lord lives, you deserve to die, because you have not kept watch over your lord, the Lord’s anointed. And now see where the king’s spear is and the jar of water that was at his head.”

и҆ не бла́го сїѐ (ѕѣлѡ̀), є҆́же сотвори́лъ є҆сѝ: жи́въ гд҇ь, ѩ҆́кѡ сы́нове сме́рти вы̀, не хранѧ́щїи го́спода своего̀ царѧ̀ хрїста̀ гд҇нѧ: и҆ нн҃ѣ ви́ждь, гдѣ̀ є҆́сть копїѐ царе́во и҆ сосѹ́дъ водны́й, ѩ҆̀же бѣ́ша при главѣ̀ є҆гѡ̀;

Saul recognized David’s voice and said, “Is this your voice, my son David?” And David said, “It is my voice, my lord, O king.”

И҆ позна̀ саѹ́лъ гла́съ даві́довъ и҆ речѐ: тво́й ли гла́съ се́й, ча́до даві́де; И҆ речѐ даві́дъ: а҆́зъ ра́бъ тво́й, го́споди царю̀.

And he said, “Why does my lord pursue after his servant? For what have I done? What evil is on my hands?

И҆ речѐ даві́дъ: почто̀ го́ниши раба̀ твоего̀, го́споди царю̀; ѩ҆́кѡ что̀ (тѝ) согрѣши́хъ; и҆ ка́ѧ ѡ҆брѣ́тесѧ во мнѣ̀ непра́вда;

Now therefore let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If it is the Lord who has stirred you up against me, may he accept an offering, but if it is men, may they be cursed before the Lord, for they have driven me out this day that I should have no share in the heritage of the Lord, saying, ‘Go, serve other gods.’

и҆ нн҃ѣ да послѹ́шаетъ госпо́дь мо́й ца́рь глаго́лѡвъ раба̀ своегѡ̀: а҆́ще бг҃ъ поѡщрѧ́етъ тѧ̀ на мѧ̀, да бѹ́детъ благово́нна же́ртва твоѧ̀: а҆́ще же сы́нове человѣ́честїи, про́клѧти сі́и пред̾ гд҇емъ, ѩ҆́кѡ и҆згна́ша мѧ̀ дне́сь не ѹ҆тверди́тисѧ въ жре́бїи гд҇ни, глаго́люще: пойдѝ, рабо́тай богѡ́мъ чѹжди҄мъ:

Now therefore, let not my blood fall to the earth away from the presence of the Lord, for the king of Israel has come out to seek a single flea like one who hunts a partridge in the mountains.”

и҆ нн҃ѣ да не паде́тъ кро́вь моѧ̀ на зе́млю пред̾ лице́мъ гд҇нимъ, ѩ҆́кѡ и҆зы́де ца́рь ї҆и҃левъ и҆ска́ти дѹшѝ моеѧ̀, и҆ го́нитъ ѩ҆́коже нощны́й вра́нъ по гора́мъ.

Then Saul said, “I have sinned. Return, my son David, for I will no more do you harm, because my life was precious in your eyes this day. Behold, I have acted foolishly, and have made a great mistake.”

И҆ речѐ саѹ́лъ: согрѣши́хъ: возврати́сѧ, ча́до даві́де, ѩ҆́кѡ ктомѹ̀ не сотворю́ ти ѕла̀, занѐ честна̀ дѹша̀ моѧ̀ пред̾ ѻ҆чи́ма твои́ма въ де́нь се́й: безѹ́мнѡ сотвори́хъ, и҆ погрѣши́хъ мно́гѡ ѕѣлѡ̀.

And David answered and said, “Here is the spear, O king! Let one of the young men come over and take it.

И҆ ѿвѣща̀ даві́дъ и҆ речѐ: сѐ, копїѐ царе́во, да прїи́детъ ѻ҆́трокъ є҆ди́нъ и҆ во́зметъ є҆̀:

The Lord rewards every man for his righteousness and his faithfulness, for the Lord gave you into my hand today, and I would not put out my hand against the Lord’s anointed.

и҆ гд҇ь да возврати́тъ коемѹ́ждо по пра́вдѣ є҆гѡ̀ и҆ по вѣ́рѣ є҆гѡ̀: ѩ҆́коже предаде́ тѧ гд҇ь дне́сь въ рѹ́цѣ моѝ, и҆ не восхотѣ́хъ нанестѝ рѹкѝ моеѧ̀ на хрїста̀ гд҇нѧ:

Behold, as your life was precious this day in my sight, so may my life be precious in the sight of the Lord, and may he deliver me out of all tribulation.”

и҆ сѐ, ѩ҆́коже возвели́чисѧ дѹша̀ твоѧ̀ дне́сь во ѻ҆́чїю моє́ю, та́кѡ да возвели́читсѧ дѹша̀ моѧ̀ пред̾ гд҇емъ, и҆ да покры́етъ мѧ̀ и҆ и҆́зметъ мѧ̀ ѿ всѧ́кїѧ печа́ли.

Then Saul said to David, “Blessed be you, my son David! You will do many things and will succeed in them.” So David went his way, and Saul returned to his place.

И҆ речѐ саѹ́лъ къ даві́дѹ: благослове́нъ ты̀, ча́до, и҆ творѧ́й сотвори́ши и҆ могі́й возмо́жеши. И҆ ѿи́де даві́дъ въ пѹ́ть сво́й, а҆ саѹ́лъ возврати́сѧ на мѣ́сто своѐ.
