As soon as he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.

И҆ бы́сть є҆гда̀ преста̀ глаго́лати къ саѹ́лѹ, и҆ дѹша̀ ї҆ѡнаѳа́на съ дѹше́ю даві́довою спрѧже́сѧ, и҆ возлюбѝ є҆го̀ ї҆ѡнаѳа́нъ ѿ дѹшѝ своеѧ̀.

And Saul took him that day and would not let him return to his father’s house.

И҆ поѧ́тъ є҆го̀ саѹ́лъ во дни҄ ѡ҆́ны и҆ не дадѐ є҆мѹ̀ возврати́тисѧ въ до́мъ ѻ҆тца̀ є҆гѡ̀.

Then Jonathan made a covenant with David, because he loved him as his own soul.

И҆ завѣща̀ ї҆ѡнаѳа́нъ и҆ даві́дъ завѣ́тъ, поне́же возлюбѝ є҆го̀ ѿ дѹшѝ своеѧ̀:

And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was on him and gave it to David, and his armor, and even his sword and his bow and his belt.

и҆ совлечѐ ї҆ѡнаѳа́нъ ри́зѹ свою̀ ве́рхнюю и҆ дадѐ ю҆̀ даві́дѹ, и҆ и҆́ны ѻ҆дє́жды своѧ҄ да́же до меча̀ своегѡ̀ и҆ до лѹ́ка своегѡ̀ и҆ до по́ѧса своегѡ̀.

And David went out and was successful wherever Saul sent him, so that Saul set him over the men of war. And this was good in the sight of all the people and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.

И҆ хожда́ше даві́дъ разѹ́мнѡ во всѣ́хъ, а҆́може а҆́ще посыла́ше є҆го̀ саѹ́лъ: поста́ви же є҆го̀ саѹ́лъ над̾ мѹ҄жи во́инскими, и҆ ѹ҆го́денъ бѣ̀ пред̾ ѻ҆чи́ма всѣ́хъ люді́й и҆ пред̾ слѹга́ми саѹ́ловыми.

As they were coming home, when David returned from striking down the Philistine, the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul, with tambourines, with songs of joy, and with musical instruments.a

И҆ бы́сть, внегда̀ входи́ти и҆̀мъ, є҆гда̀ возврати́сѧ даві́дъ ѿ побѣ́ды над̾ и҆ноплеме́нникомъ: и҆ и҆зыдо́ша (дѣ҄вы) ликовствѹ́ющыѧ во срѣ́тенїе саѹ́ла царѧ̀ ѿ всѣ́хъ градѡ́въ ї҆и҃левыхъ пою́щѧ и҆ ска́чѹщѧ въ тѷмпа́нѣхъ съ ра́достїю и҆ съ гѹ́сльми.

And the women sang to one another as they celebrated, “Saul has struck down his thousands, and David his ten thousands.”

И҆ и҆схожда́хѹ жєны̀ ликѹ́ющѧ и҆ глаго́лющѧ: побѣдѝ саѹ́лъ съ ты́сѧщами свои́ми, а҆ даві́дъ со тма́ми свои́ми.

And Saul was very angry, and this saying displeased him. He said, “They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed thousands, and what more can he have but the kingdom?”

И҆ разгнѣ́васѧ саѹ́лъ ѕѣлѡ̀, и҆ лѹка҄вы ѩ҆ви́шасѧ глаго́лы пред̾ ѻ҆чи́ма саѹ́ловыма ѡ҆ словесѝ се́мъ. И҆ речѐ саѹ́лъ: даві́дѹ да́ша тмы҄, мнѣ́ же да́ша ты́сѧщы: и҆ чегѡ̀ є҆мѹ̀ (нѣ́сть), то́чїю ца́рства;

And Saul eyed David from that day on.

И҆ бѣ̀ саѹ́лъ подзира́ѧ даві́да ѿ днѐ ѻ҆́нагѡ и҆ пото́мъ.

The next day a harmful spirit from God rushed upon Saul, and he raved within his house while David was playing the lyre, as he did day by day. Saul had his spear in his hand.

И҆ бы́сть ѿ ѹ҆́трешнѧгѡ днѐ, и҆ напада́ше дѹ́хъ лѹка́вый ѿ бг҃а на саѹ́ла, и҆ прорица́ше посредѣ̀ до́мѹ своегѡ̀: и҆ даві́дъ поѧ́ше рѹко́ю свое́ю (въ гѹ́сли), ѩ҆́коже и҆ по всѧ҄ дни҄: копїе́ же въ рѹцѣ̀ саѹ́ли:

And Saul hurled the spear, for he thought, “I will pin David to the wall.” But David evaded him twice.

и҆ взѧ̀ саѹ́лъ копїѐ и҆ речѐ: поражѹ̀ даві́да къ стѣнѣ̀. И҆ ѹ҆клони́сѧ даві́дъ ѿ лица̀ є҆гѡ̀ два́жды.

Saul was afraid of David because the Lord was with him but had departed from Saul.

И҆ ѹ҆боѧ́сѧ саѹ́лъ ѿ лица̀ даві́дова, ѩ҆́кѡ гд҇ь бѣ̀ съ ни́мъ, а҆ ѿ саѹ́ла ѿстѹпѝ:

So Saul removed him from his presence and made him a commander of a thousand. And he went out and came in before the people.

и҆ ѿста́ви є҆го̀ саѹ́лъ ѿ себє̀, и҆ поста́ви є҆го̀ себѣ̀ тысѧщенача́лника: и҆ и҆схожда́ше и҆ вхожда́ше пред̾ людьмѝ.

And David had success in all his undertakings, for the Lord was with him.

И҆ бѣ̀ даві́дъ во всѣ́хъ пѹте́хъ свои́хъ смы́слѧ, и҆ гд҇ь бѣ̀ съ ни́мъ.

And when Saul saw that he had great success, he stood in fearful awe of him.

И҆ ви́дѣ саѹ́лъ, ѩ҆́кѡ то́й смы́слитъ ѕѣлѡ̀, и҆ боѧ́шесѧ ѿ лица̀ є҆гѡ̀.

But all Israel and Judah loved David, for he went out and came in before them.

Ве́сь же ї҆и҃ль и҆ ї҆ѹ́да люблѧ́хѹ даві́да, ѩ҆́кѡ то́й вхожда́ше и҆ и҆схожда́ше пред̾ лице́мъ люді́й.

Then Saul said to David, “Here is my elder daughter Merab. I will give her to you for a wife. Only be valiant for me and fight the Lord’s battles.” For Saul thought, “Let not my hand be against him, but let the hand of the Philistines be against him.”

И҆ речѐ саѹ́лъ къ даві́дѹ: сѐ, дщѝ моѧ̀ бо́лшаѧ мерѡ́въ, сїю̀ тебѣ̀ да́мъ въ женѹ̀, то́кмѡ бѹ́ди мѝ въ сы́на си́лы и҆ побора́й бра҄ни гд҇ни. И҆ саѹ́лъ речѐ: да не бѹ́детъ рѹка̀ моѧ̀ на не́мъ, но да бѹ́детъ рѹка̀ и҆ноплеме́ннича.

And David said to Saul, “Who am I, and who are my relatives, my father’s clan in Israel, that I should be son-in-law to the king?”

И҆ речѐ даві́дъ къ саѹ́лѹ: кто̀ а҆́зъ є҆́смь; и҆ ко́е житїѐ сро́дства ѻ҆тца̀ моегѡ̀ во ї҆и҃ли, ѩ҆́кѡ да бѹ́дѹ зѧ́ть ца́рскїй;

But at the time when Merab, Saul’s daughter, should have been given to David, she was given to Adriel the Meholathite for a wife.

И҆ бы́сть во вре́мѧ, є҆гда̀ да́нѣй бы́ти подоба́ше мерѡ́вѣ дще́ри саѹ́ловѣ даві́дѹ, сїѧ̀ даде́сѧ а҆дрїи́лѹ молаѳі́тскомѹ въ женѹ̀.

Now Saul’s daughter Michal loved David. And they told Saul, and the thing pleased him.

И҆ возлюбѝ мелхо́ла дще́рь саѹ́лова даві́да: и҆ возвѣсти́сѧ саѹ́лѹ, и҆ ѹ҆го́дно бы́сть пред̾ ѻ҆чи́ма є҆гѡ̀ сло́во.

Saul thought, “Let me give her to him, that she may be a snare for him and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him.” Therefore Saul said to David a second time,b “You shall now be my son-in-law.”

И҆ речѐ саѹ́лъ: да́мъ є҆мѹ̀ ю҆̀, и҆ бѹ́детъ є҆мѹ̀ въ собла́знъ. И҆ бѣ̀ на саѹ́ла рѹка̀ и҆ноплеме́ннича. И҆ речѐ саѹ́лъ къ даві́дѹ: въ си́лахъ бѹ́деши мѝ зѧ́ть дне́сь.

And Saul commanded his servants, “Speak to David in private and say, ‘Behold, the king has delight in you, and all his servants love you. Now then become the king’s son-in-law.’”

И҆ заповѣ́да саѹ́лъ ѻ҆трокѡ́мъ свои҄мъ, глаго́лѧ: рцы́те вы̀ та́йнѡ даві́дѹ, глаго́люще: сѐ, благоволи́тъ ѡ҆ тебѣ̀ ца́рь, и҆ всѝ ѻ҆́троцы є҆гѡ̀ лю́бѧтъ тѧ̀, и҆ ты̀ бѹ́ди зѧ́ть царю̀.

And Saul’s servants spoke those words in the ears of David. And David said, “Does it seem to you a little thing to become the king’s son-in-law, since I am a poor man and have no reputation?”

И҆ глаго́лаша ѻ҆́троцы саѹ́лѡвы во ѹ҆́шы даві́дѹ глаго́лы сїѧ҄. И҆ речѐ даві́дъ: є҆да̀ легко̀ пред̾ ѻ҆чи́ма ва́шима, є҆́же бы́ти (мѝ) зѧ́темъ царю̀; а҆́зъ бо є҆́смь мѹ́жъ смире́нъ и҆ не сла́венъ.

And the servants of Saul told him, “Thus and so did David speak.”

И҆ возвѣсти́ша ѻ҆́троцы саѹ́лѹ сїѧ҄ словеса̀, ѩ҆̀же глаго́ла даві́дъ.

Then Saul said, “Thus shall you say to David, ‘The king desires no bride-price except a hundred foreskins of the Philistines, that he may be avenged of the king’s enemies.’” Now Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.

И҆ речѐ саѹ́лъ: та́кѡ рцы́те даві́дѹ: не хо́щетъ ца́рь съ бога́тствомъ (зѧ́тѧ), но то́кмѡ во стѣ̀ краенеѡбрѣ́занїй и҆ноплеме́нническихъ ѿмсти́ти врагѡ́мъ царє́вымъ. Саѹ́лъ бо мы́слѧше вда́ти даві́да въ рѹ́цѣ и҆ноплеме́нникѡмъ.

And when his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king’s son-in-law. Before the time had expired,

И҆ возвѣсти́ша ѻ҆́троцы саѹ́лѡвы глаго́лы сїѧ҄ даві́дѹ, и҆ ѹ҆гѡ́дна бы́ша словеса̀ сїѧ҄ пред̾ ѻ҆чи́ма даві́довыма, є҆́же бы́ти въ зѧ́тѧ царю̀.

David arose and went, along with his men, and killed two hundred of the Philistines. And David brought their foreskins, which were given in full number to the king, that he might become the king’s son-in-law. And Saul gave him his daughter Michal for a wife.

И҆ не по мно́зѣхъ дне́хъ, воста̀ даві́дъ и҆ и҆́де са́мъ и҆ мѹ́жїе є҆гѡ̀ съ ни́мъ, и҆ ѹ҆бѝ ѿ и҆ноплемє́нникъ двѣ́сти мѹже́й: и҆ принесѐ краенеѡбрѣ҄занїѧ и҆́хъ царю̀ и҆ вдадѐ ѧ҆̀ є҆мѹ̀, и҆ бы́сть зѧ́ть царю̀, и҆ вдадѐ є҆мѹ̀ ца́рь мелхо́лѹ дще́рь свою̀ въ женѹ̀.

But when Saul saw and knew that the Lord was with David, and that Michal, Saul’s daughter, loved him,

И҆ ви́дѣ саѹ́лъ, ѩ҆́кѡ гд҇ь є҆́сть съ даві́домъ, и҆ ве́сь ї҆и҃ль лю́битъ є҆го̀:

Saul was even more afraid of David. So Saul was David’s enemy continually.

и҆ приложѝ саѹ́лъ ѿто́лѣ па́че боѧ́тисѧ даві́да. И҆ бы́сть саѹ́лъ враждѹ́ѧ на даві́да во всѧ҄ дни҄.

Then the commanders of the Philistines came out to battle, and as often as they came out David had more success than all the servants of Saul, so that his name was highly esteemed.

И҆ и҆схожда́хѹ кнѧ҄зи и҆ноплемє́нничи, и҆ бы́сть ѿ нача́ла и҆схожде́нїѧ и҆́хъ, даві́дъ разѹ́менъ бѣ̀ па́че всѣ́хъ слѹ́гъ саѹ́ловыхъ, и҆ почте́сѧ и҆́мѧ є҆гѡ̀ ѕѣлѡ̀.
