The words of the Preacher,a the son of David, king in Jerusalem.

Глаго́лы є҆кклесїа́ста, сы́на даві́дова, царѧ̀ ї҆и҃лева во ї҆ер҇ли́мѣ.

Vanityb of vanities, says the Preacher, vanity of vanities! All is vanity.

Сѹета̀ сѹ́етствїй, речѐ є҆кклесїа́стъ, сѹета̀ сѹ́етствїй, всѧ́чєскаѧ сѹета̀.

What does man gain by all the toil at which he toils under the sun?

Ко́е и҆з̾ѻби́лїе человѣ́кѹ во все́мъ трѹдѣ̀ є҆гѡ̀, и҆́мже трѹди́тсѧ под̾ со́лнцемъ;

A generation goes, and a generation comes, but the earth remains forever.

Ро́дъ прехо́дитъ и҆ ро́дъ прихо́дитъ, а҆ землѧ̀ во вѣ́къ стои́тъ.

The sun rises, and the sun goes down, and hastensc to the place where it rises.

И҆ восхо́дитъ со́лнце и҆ захо́дитъ со́лнце и҆ въ мѣ́сто своѐ влече́тсѧ, сїѐ возсїѧва́ѧ та́мѡ.

The wind blows to the south and goes around to the north; around and around goes the wind, and on its circuits the wind returns.

И҆́детъ къ ю҆́гѹ и҆ ѡ҆бхо́дитъ къ сѣ́верѹ, ѡ҆бхо́дитъ ѡ҆́крестъ, и҆́детъ дѹ́хъ и҆ на крѹ́ги своѧ҄ ѡ҆браща́етсѧ дѹ́хъ.

All streams run to the sea, but the sea is not full; to the place where the streams flow, there they flow again.

Всѝ пото́цы и҆́дѹтъ въ мо́ре, и҆ мо́ре нѣ́сть насыща́емо: на мѣ́сто, а҆́може пото́цы и҆́дѹтъ, та́мѡ ті́и возвраща́ютсѧ и҆тѝ.

All things are full of weariness; a man cannot utter it; the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.

Всѧ҄ словеса̀ трѹ҄дна, не возмо́жетъ мѹ́жъ глаго́лати: и҆ не насы́титсѧ ѻ҆́ко зрѣ́ти, ни и҆спо́лнитсѧ ѹ҆́хо слы́шанїѧ.

What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun.

Что̀ бы́ло, то́жде є҆́сть, є҆́же бѹ́детъ: и҆ что̀ бы́ло сотворе́ное, то́жде и҆́мать сотвори́тисѧ:

Is there a thing of which it is said, “See, this is new”? It has been already in the ages before us.

и҆ ничто́же но́во под̾ со́лнцемъ. И҆́же возглаго́летъ и҆ рече́тъ: сѐ, сїѐ но́во є҆́сть: ѹ҆жѐ бы́сть въ вѣ́цѣхъ бы́вшихъ пре́жде на́съ.

There is no remembrance of former things,d nor will there be any remembrance of later thingse yet to be among those who come after.

Нѣ́сть па́мѧть пе́рвыхъ, и҆ послѣ҄днимъ бы́вшымъ не бѹ́детъ и҆́хъ па́мѧть съ бѹ́дѹщими на послѣ́докъ.

I the Preacher have been king over Israel in Jerusalem.

А҆́зъ є҆кклесїа́стъ бы́хъ ца́рь над̾ ї҆и҃лемъ во ї҆ер҇ли́мѣ

And I applied my heartf to seek and to search out by wisdom all that is done under heaven. It is an unhappy business that God has given to the children of man to be busy with.

и҆ вда́хъ се́рдце моѐ, є҆́же взыска́ти и҆ разсмотри́ти въ мѹ́дрости ѡ҆ всѣ́хъ быва́ющихъ под̾ небесе́мъ: ѩ҆́кѡ попече́нїе лѹка́во дадѐ бг҃ъ сынѡ́мъ человѣ́чєскимъ, є҆́же ѹ҆пражднѧ́тисѧ въ не́мъ.

I have seen everything that is done under the sun, and behold, all is vanityg and a striving after wind.h

Ви́дѣхъ всѧ́чєскаѧ сотворє́нїѧ сотворє́ннаѧ под̾ со́лнцемъ: и҆ сѐ, всѧ҄ сѹ́етство и҆ произволе́нїе дѹ́ха.

What is crooked cannot be made straight, and what is lacking cannot be counted.

Развраще́нное не мо́жетъ и҆спра́витисѧ, и҆ лише́нїе не мо́жетъ и҆зчи́слитисѧ.

I said in my heart, “I have acquired great wisdom, surpassing all who were over Jerusalem before me, and my heart has had great experience of wisdom and knowledge.”

Глаго́лахъ а҆́зъ въ се́рдцы мое́мъ, є҆́же рещѝ: сѐ, а҆́зъ возвели́чихсѧ и҆ ѹ҆мно́жихъ мѹ́дрость па́че всѣ́хъ, и҆̀же бы́ша пре́жде менє̀ во ї҆ер҇ли́мѣ,

And I applied my heart to know wisdom and to know madness and folly. I perceived that this also is but a striving after wind.

и҆ се́рдце моѐ вда́хъ, є҆́же вѣ́дѣти премѹ́дрость и҆ ра́зѹмъ: и҆ се́рдце моѐ ви́дѣ мнѡ́гаѧ, премѹ́дрость и҆ ра́зѹмъ, при҄тчи и҆ хи́трость: ѹ҆разѹмѣ́хъ а҆́зъ, ѩ҆́кѡ и҆ сїѐ є҆́сть произволе́нїе дѹ́ха:

For in much wisdom is much vexation, and he who increases knowledge increases sorrow.

ѩ҆́кѡ во мно́жествѣ мѹ́дрости мно́жество ра́зѹма, и҆ приложи́вый ра́зѹмъ приложи́тъ болѣ́знь.
