The words of the Preacher,a the son of David, king in Jerusalem.

Vanityb of vanities, says the Preacher, vanity of vanities! All is vanity.

Марнасьць марнасьцяў, сказаў Казаньнік, марнасьць марнасьцяў, усе марнасьць.

What does man gain by all the toil at which he toils under the sun?

Якая перавага чалавеку з усяе гарапашнасьці ягонае, што ён гарапашнічае пад сонцам?

A generation goes, and a generation comes, but the earth remains forever.

Пакаленьне адыходзе, і пакаленьне прыходзе, але зямля трывае на векі.

The sun rises, and the sun goes down, and hastensc to the place where it rises.

Таксама сонца ўзыходзе, і сонца заходзе, і сьпяшаецца да месца свайго, ідзе яно ўзышло.

The wind blows to the south and goes around to the north; around and around goes the wind, and on its circuits the wind returns.

Вецер вее на паўдня і кружыняе на поўнач, кружыняе, кружыняе, дзьмець і на кругі свае зварачаецца вецер.

All streams run to the sea, but the sea is not full; to the place where the streams flow, there they flow again.

All things are full of weariness; a man cannot utter it; the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.

What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun.

Што было, тое й будзе; і што дзеялася, тое й будзе дзеяцца; і няма нічога новага пад сонцам.

Is there a thing of which it is said, “See, this is new”? It has been already in the ages before us.

Бывае штось, праз што кажуць: «Глянь гэта навіна»; але было яно ўжо ад веку, што быў перад намі.

There is no remembrance of former things,d nor will there be any remembrance of later thingse yet to be among those who come after.

Няма памяці пярэдняга, дый апошнія, што будуць, не застануцца ў памяці тых, што прыйдуць наапошку.

I the Preacher have been king over Israel in Jerusalem.

Я, Казаньнік, быў каралём над Ізраелям у Ерузаліме.

And I applied my heartf to seek and to search out by wisdom all that is done under heaven. It is an unhappy business that God has given to the children of man to be busy with.

І я наважыў у сэрцу сваім сачыць а скумаць розумам усе, што дзеецца пад нябёсамі. Гэты цяжкі занятак даў Бог сыном людзкім, каб мучылі сябе ім.

I have seen everything that is done under the sun, and behold, all is vanityg and a striving after wind.h

Бачыў я ўсі справы, якія робяць пад сонцам: і вось, усе — марнасьць а тамаваньне духа.

What is crooked cannot be made straight, and what is lacking cannot be counted.

Скрыўленага нельга выпрастаць, і нестаючага нельга лічыць.

I said in my heart, “I have acquired great wisdom, surpassing all who were over Jerusalem before me, and my heart has had great experience of wisdom and knowledge.”

Мужаваў я із сэрцам сваім, кажучы: «Я, гля, я ўзьвялічыўся а прыдбаў болей мудрасьці, чымся ўсі, што былі перад імною ў Ерузаліме, і сэрца мае бачыла шмат мудрасьці а веды».

And I applied my heart to know wisdom and to know madness and folly. I perceived that this also is but a striving after wind.

І я даў сэрцу свайму пазнаць мудрасьць а веду, шал а дурноту; і я ведаю, што таксама гэта немарасьць духа;

For in much wisdom is much vexation, and he who increases knowledge increases sorrow.

Бо ў шмат мудрасьці, шмат і гневу, і хто павялічае веду, павялічае боль.
