Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who reside as aliens, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, who are chosen

Petrus, ein Apostel JEsu Christi: Den erwählten Fremdlingen hin und her in Pontus, Galatien, Kappadozien, Asien und Bithynien,

according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, by the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to obey Jesus Christ and be sprinkled with His blood: May grace and peace be yours in the fullest measure.

nach der Versehung GOttes des Vaters, durch die Heiligung des Geistes, zum Gehorsam und zur Besprengung des Blutes JEsu Christi. GOtt gebe euch viel Gnade und Frieden!

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

Gelobet sei GOtt und der Vater unsers HErrn JEsu Christi, der uns nach seiner großen Barmherzigkeit wiedergeboren hat zu einer lebendigen Hoffnung durch die Auferstehung JEsu Christi von den Toten

to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,

zu einem unvergänglichen und unbefleckten und unverwelklichen Erbe, das behalten wird im Himmel

who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

euch, die ihr aus GOttes Macht durch den Glauben bewahret werdet zur Seligkeit, welche zubereitet ist, daß sie offenbar werde zu der letzten Zeit,

In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials,

in welcher ihr euch freuen werdet, die ihr jetzt eine kleine Zeit (wo es sein soll) traurig seid in mancherlei Anfechtungen,

so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

auf daß euer Glaube rechtschaffen und viel köstlicher erfunden werde denn das vergängliche Gold, das durchs Feuer bewähret wird, zu Lobe, Preis und Ehren, wenn nun offenbaret wird JEsus Christus,

and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,

welchen ihr nicht gesehen und doch liebhabt und nun an ihn glaubet, wiewohl ihr ihn nicht sehet; so werdet ihr euch freuen mit unaussprechlicher und herrlicher Freude ,

obtaining as the outcome of your faith the salvation of your souls.

und das Ende eures Glaubens davonbringen, nämlich der Seelen Seligkeit.

As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries,

Nach welcher Seligkeit haben gesucht und geforschet die Propheten, die von der zukünftigen Gnade auf euch geweissaget haben,

seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow.

und haben geforschet, auf welche und welcherlei Zeit deutete der Geist Christi, der in ihnen war, und zuvor bezeuget hat die Leiden, die in Christo sind, und die Herrlichkeit danach,

It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven — things into which angels long to look.

welchen es offenbaret ist. Denn sie haben's nicht sich selbst, sondern uns dargetan, welches euch nun verkündiget ist durch die, so euch das Evangelium verkündiget haben, durch den Heiligen Geist vom Himmel gesandt, welches auch die Engel gelüstet zu schauen.

Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Darum so begürtet die Lenden eures Gemütes, seid nüchtern und setzet eure Hoffnung ganz auf die Gnade, die euch angeboten wird durch die Offenbarung JEsu Christi,

As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance,

als gehorsame Kinder; und stellet euch nicht gleich wie vorhin, da ihr in Unwissenheit nach den Lüsten lebetet,

but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior;

sondern nach dem, der euch berufen hat und heilig ist, seid auch ihr heilig in allem eurem Wandel.

because it is written, “YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY.”

Denn es stehet geschrieben: Ihr sollt heilig sein; denn ich bin heilig.

If you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your stay on earth;

Und sintemal ihr den zum Vater anrufet, der ohne Ansehen der Person richtet nach eines jeglichen Werk, so führet euren Wandel, solange ihr hier wallet, mit Furcht;

knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers,

und wisset, daß ihr nicht mit vergänglichem Silber oder Gold erlöset seid von eurem eitlen Wandel nach väterlicher Weise,

but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.

sondern mit dem teuren Blut Christi, als eines unschuldigen und unbefleckten Lammes,

For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you

der zwar zuvor versehen ist, ehe der Welt Grund gelegt ward, aber offenbaret zu den letzten Zeiten um euretwillen,

who through Him are believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.

die ihr durch ihn glaubet an GOtt, der ihn auferwecket hat von den Toten und ihm die Herrlichkeit gegeben, auf daß ihr Glauben und Hoffnung zu GOtt haben möchtet.

Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart,

Und machet keusch eure Seelen im Gehorsam der Wahrheit durch den Geist zu ungefärbter Bruderliebe und habt euch untereinander brünstig lieb aus reinem Herzen,

for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God.

als die da wiederum geboren sind, nicht aus vergänglichem, sondern aus unvergänglichem Samen, nämlich aus dem lebendigen Wort GOttes, das da ewiglich bleibet.

For, “ALL FLESH IS LIKE GRASS, AND ALL ITS GLORY LIKE THE FLOWER OF GRASS. THE GRASS WITHERS, AND THE FLOWER FALLS OFF,

Denn alles Fleisch ist wie Gras und alle Herrlichkeit der Menschen wie des Grases Blume. Das Gras ist verdorret, und die Blume abgefallen;

BUT THE WORD OF THE LORD ENDURES FOREVER.” And this is the word which was preached to you.

aber des HErrn Wort bleibet in Ewigkeit. Das ist das Wort, welches unter euch verkündiget ist.
