Вот какие владения отведены были по жребию колену Манассии (первенца Иосифа), то есть потомкам Махира (первенца Манассии), отца Гилада: достались им1 Гилад и Башан, потому что Махир2 был храбрым воином.

The next allotment of land was given to the half-tribe of Manasseh, the descendants of Joseph’s older son. Makir, the firstborn son of Manasseh, was the father of Gilead. Because his descendants were experienced soldiers, the regions of Gilead and Bashan on the east side of the Jordan had already been given to them.

Жребием были назначены земли и для остальных потомков Манассии — для семейств Авиэзера и Хелека, Асриэля и Шехема, Хефера и Шемиды; все они были потомками Манассии, сына Иосифа, потомками колена Манассии по мужской линии.

So the allotment on the west side of the Jordan was for the remaining families within the clans of the tribe of Manasseh: Abiezer, Helek, Asriel, Shechem, Hepher, and Shemida. These clans represent the male descendants of Manasseh son of Joseph.

У Целофхада, сына Хефера, внука Гилада, правнука Махира, праправнука Манассии, не было сыновей — только дочери. Имена дочерей его — Махла, Ноа, Хогла, Милка и Тирца.

However, Zelophehad, a descendant of Hepher son of Gilead, son of Makir, son of Manasseh, had no sons. He had only daughters, whose names were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.

Пришли они к Элеазару-священнику, Иисусу Навину и старейшинам и сказали: «Господь повелел еще через Моисея дать нам наследственный удел среди земель наших родственников».3 И, по повелению ГОСПОДА, Иисус4 определил наследие для них среди владений, что принадлежали братьям отца их.

These women came to Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the Israelite leaders and said, “The LORD commanded Moses to give us a grant of land along with the men of our tribe.” So Joshua gave them a grant of land along with their uncles, as the LORD had commanded.

Колену Манассии досталось десять удельных областей, помимо земель Гилада и Башана, находившихся за Иорданом,

As a result, Manasseh’s total allocation came to ten parcels of land, in addition to the land of Gilead and Bashan across the Jordan River,

потому что дочери Манассии получили наследие наравне с его сыновьями.5 А земля Гилад была отведена остальным потомкам Манассии.

because the female descendants of Manasseh received a grant of land along with the male descendants. (The land of Gilead was given to the rest of the male descendants of Manasseh.)

Граница земель, принадлежавших колену Манассии, была такой: от Ашера до Михметата, что напротив Шехема, оттуда она сворачивала на юг, к Эн-Таппуаху.

The boundary of the tribe of Manasseh extended from the border of Asher to Micmethath, near Shechem. Then the boundary went south from Micmethath to the settlement near the spring of Tappuah.

Земли Таппуаха были собственностью потомков Манассии, однако сам город Таппуах, расположенный у границы владений Манассии, достался потомкам Ефрема.

The land surrounding Tappuah belonged to Manasseh, but the town of Tappuah itself, on the border of Manasseh’s territory, belonged to the tribe of Ephraim.

Потом линия границы спускалась на юг, к потоку Кана. На южной стороне его долины были расположены города, выделенные потомкам Ефрема из числа городов, принадлежавших потомкам Манассии. Далее граница земель Манассии шла по северному берегу потока и выходила к Великому морю — их пределу на западе.

From the spring of Tappuah, the boundary of Manasseh followed the Kanah Ravine to the Mediterranean Sea.a Several towns south of the ravine were inside Manasseh’s territory, but they actually belonged to the tribe of Ephraim.

Морское побережье к югу от него принадлежало потомкам Ефрема, а к северу Манассии; море же было западной границей земель и тех, и других.6 На севере владения Манассии и Ефрема граничили с землями Асира, а на востоке — с землями Иссахара.

In general, however, the land south of the ravine belonged to Ephraim, and the land north of the ravine belonged to Manasseh. Manasseh’s boundary ran along the northern side of the ravine and ended at the Mediterranean Sea. North of Manasseh was the territory of Asher, and to the east was the territory of Issachar.

Среди владений Иссахара и Асира потомкам Манассии принадлежали Бет-Шеан с прилегавшими к нему селениями, Ивлеам с прилегавшими к нему селениями, жители Дора с прилегавшими к нему селениями, жители Эн-Дора с прилегавшими к нему селениями, а также жители Таанаха и Мегиддо с прилегавшими к нему селениями ( другое название третьего по счету — Нафет).7

The following towns within the territory of Issachar and Asher, however, were given to Manasseh: Beth-shan,b Ibleam, Dor (that is, Naphoth-dor),c Endor, Taanach, and Megiddo, each with their surrounding settlements.

Однако не смогли потомки Манассии захватить эти города, и ханаанеи продолжали жить в тех землях.

But the descendants of Manasseh were unable to occupy these towns because the Canaanites were determined to stay in that region.

Когда же израильтяне прочно обосновались там, 8 то заставили ханаанеев работать на себя, так и не изгнав их полностью.

Later, however, when the Israelites became strong enough, they forced the Canaanites to work as slaves. But they did not drive them out of the land.

Потомки Иосифа спросили Иисуса: «Почему ты выделил нам только один наследственный удел, только одну часть этой страны, когда нас так много? Ведь ГОСПОДЬ и по сей день посылает нам благословения, умножая наш род! »

The descendants of Joseph came to Joshua and asked, “Why have you given us only one portion of land as our homeland when the LORD has blessed us with so many people?”

«Если вас так много, то отправляйтесь в лес и расчищайте для себя надел в землях периззеев и рефаимов, — ответил им Иисус, — раз вам тесно в нагорье Ефрема».

Joshua replied, “If there are so many of you, and if the hill country of Ephraim is not large enough for you, clear out land for yourselves in the forest where the Perizzites and Rephaites live.”

«Этого нагорья мало для нас, — сказали потомки Иосифа, — а долину захватить мы не сможем. Ведь у всех ханаанеев, живущих в долине, есть окованные железом колесницы — и у тех, кто живет в Бет-Шеане, и в прилегающих к нему селениях, и в долине Изреэль».

The descendants of Joseph responded, “It’s true that the hill country is not large enough for us. But all the Canaanites in the lowlands have iron chariots, both those in Beth-shan and its surrounding settlements and those in the valley of Jezreel. They are too strong for us.”

Тогда Иисус сказал потомкам Иосифа, коленам Ефрема и Манассии: «У вас очень много людей, и большая сила у вас. Не только этим одним участком сможете вы овладеть.

Then Joshua said to the tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh, the descendants of Joseph, “Since you are so large and strong, you will be given more than one portion.

Вся горная страна станет вашей. Очистите ее от леса и живите — весь край этот будет принадлежать вам. И вы изгоните прочь ханаанеев, даже если и сильны они9 и железные у них колесницы».

The forests of the hill country will be yours as well. Clear as much of the land as you wish, and take possession of its farthest corners. And you will drive out the Canaanites from the valleys, too, even though they are strong and have iron chariots.”
