Давид ушёл из Гефа и скрылся в Одолламской пещере. Братья его и все родственники услышали, что он находится там, и пошли туда повидаться с ним.

David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father's house heard it, they went down thither to him.

К Давиду примкнули все те, кто были в беде, должники и те люди, которые были разочарованы жизнью. Давид стал над ними начальником, и было с ним около четырёхсот человек.

And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men.

Оттуда Давид пошёл в Мицфу моавскую и сказал царю, правившему в той земле: «Разреши моему отцу и моей матери остаться у тебя, пока я не узнаю, что сделает со мной Бог».

And David went thence to Mizpeh of Moab: and he said unto the king of Moab, Let my father and my mother, I pray thee, come forth, and be with you, till I know what God will do for me.

И оставил он родителей у царя моавского, и жили они там, пока Давид находился в укреплении.

And he brought them before the king of Moab: and they dwelt with him all the while that David was in the hold.

Но пророк Гад сказал Давиду: «Не оставайся в крепости. Иди в землю Иудейскую». И Давид ушёл оттуда и пришёл в лес Херет.

And the prophet Gad said unto David, Abide not in the hold; depart, and get thee into the land of Judah. Then David departed, and came into the forest of Hareth.

Когда Саул был в Гиве, ему сообщили, где находился Давид и верные ему люди. Царь сидел тогда под деревом на горе, с копьём в руке, а все слуги стояли вокруг него.

When Saul heard that David was discovered, and the men that were with him, (now Saul abode in Gibeah under a tree in Ramah, having his spear in his hand, and all his servants were standing about him;)

Саул сказал слугам, окружавшим его: «Слушайте, сыновья Вениамина! Неужели вы думаете, что сын Иессея Давид даст вам поля и виноградники, что он сделает вас тысячниками и начальниками над сотнями?

Then Saul said unto his servants that stood about him, Hear now, ye Benjamites; will the son of Jesse give every one of you fields and vineyards, and make you all captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds;

Нет! Так почему же все вы устраиваете заговор против меня? Никто из вас не сказал мне о моём сыне Ионафане, о том, что он заключил соглашение с сыном Иессея! Никто не сказал мне, что Ионафан подстрекал Давида напасть на меня! Именно так Давид сейчас и поступает!»

That all of you have conspired against me, and there is none that sheweth me that my son hath made a league with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you that is sorry for me, or sheweth unto me that my son hath stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?

Там со слугами Саула находился также и Доик идумеянин. Он сказал: «Я видел, как сын Иессея приходил в Номву к священнику Ахимелеху, сыну Ахитува.

Then answered Doeg the Edomite, which was set over the servants of Saul, and said, I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub.

Ахимелех молился Господу о Давиде, дал ему еды и отдал ему меч филистимлянина Голиафа».

And he inquired of the LORD for him, and gave him victuals, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine.

Тогда царь Саул велел привести к нему священника Ахимелеха, сына Ахитува, и всех его родственников, которые служили священниками в Номве. И все они пришли к царю.

Then the king sent to call Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father's house, the priests that were in Nob: and they came all of them to the king.

Саул сказал Ахимелеху: «Слушай меня сейчас, сын Ахитува». И тот ответил: «Да, господин мой».

And Saul said, Hear now, thou son of Ahitub. And he answered, Here I am, my lord.

Затем Саул спросил его: «Почему ты сговорился с сыном Иессея против меня? Почему ты дал ему хлеб и меч и молился о нём Богу? А сейчас Давид восстал против меня и ждёт удобного момента, чтобы напасть!»

And Saul said unto him, Why have ye conspired against me, thou and the son of Jesse, in that thou hast given him bread, and a sword, and hast inquired of God for him, that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?

Ахимелех ответил: «Давид очень предан тебе. Он преданнее любого из твоих слуг. Он твой зять и начальник твоих телохранителей, и вся семья твоя уважает его.

Then Ahimelech answered the king, and said, And who is so faithful among all thy servants as David, which is the king's son in law, and goeth at thy bidding, and is honourable in thine house?

Я и прежде молился Богу о Давиде. Не обвиняй меня и моих родственников. Мы — слуги твои, и я ничего не знаю о том, что происходит».

Did I then begin to inquire of God for him? be it far from me: let not the king impute any thing unto his servant, nor to all the house of my father: for thy servant knew nothing of all this, less or more.

Но царь сказал: «Ахимелех, ты и все твои родственники должны умереть!» —

And the king said, Thou shalt surely die, Ahimelech, thou, and all thy father's house.

и приказал телохранителям, стоявшим возле него: «Идите и убейте священников Господа, потому что они тоже на стороне Давида. Они знали, что он убежал, но не сказали мне!» Но слуги царя отказались поднять руку на священников Господа.

And the king said unto the footmen that stood about him, Turn, and slay the priests of the LORD; because their hand also is with David, and because they knew when he fled, and did not shew it to me. But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of the LORD.

Тогда царь сказал Доику: «Иди и убей священников». Доик пошёл и убил священников. В этот день было убито восемьдесят пять человек, носивших льняной ефод.

And the king said to Doeg, Turn thou, and fall upon the priests. And Doeg the Edomite turned, and he fell upon the priests, and slew on that day fourscore and five persons that did wear a linen ephod.

Доик убил также всех жителей Номвы, города священников. Мечом своим он поразил всех мужчин, женщин, детей и младенцев и убил всех их коров, ослов и овец.

And Nob, the city of the priests, smote he with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and sucklings, and oxen, and asses, and sheep, with the edge of the sword.

Но Авиафар, сын Ахимелеха, сына Ахитува, спасся и присоединился к Давиду.

And one of the sons of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped, and fled after David.

Авиафар рассказал Давиду, как Саул убил священников Господа.

And Abiathar shewed David that Saul had slain the LORD'S priests.

И сказал Давид Авиафару: «Я видел в тот день там Доика идумеянина. Я знал, что он донесёт Саулу! Я виновен в смерти всей семьи твоего отца.

And David said unto Abiathar, I knew it that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul: I have occasioned the death of all the persons of thy father's house.

Тот человек (Саул), который хочет убить тебя, также хочет убить и меня. Оставайся у меня и не бойся; здесь ты будешь в безопасности».

Abide thou with me, fear not: for he that seeketh my life seeketh thy life: but with me thou shalt be in safeguard.
