Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?

После смерти Иисуса Навина стали израильтяне1 вопрошать ГОСПОДА: «Какому из наших колен первым идти войной на ханаанеев?»

And the LORD said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.

ГОСПОДЬ ответил: «Идти первым колену Иуды. Я отдаю в его руки эту страну».

And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.

Тогда воины из колена Иуды сказали своим братьям из колена Симеона: «Пойдемте вместе, отвоюем у ханаанеев удел, доставшийся нам по жребию, а потом отвоюем ваш удел». И колено Симеона примкнуло к колену Иуды.

And Judah went up; and the LORD delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.

Когда же племя Иуды пошло в наступление, ГОСПОДЬ отдал им в руки ханаанеев и периззеев, и десять тысяч из вражеского войска пало в Везеке.

And they found Adonibezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they slew the Canaanites and the Perizzites.

Там столкнулись израильтяне и с самим правителем Везека,2 и вступили в бой с ним, и нанесли поражение ханаанеям и периззеям.

But Adonibezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.

Правитель Везека бежал, но они пустились в погоню за ним и, поймав его, отрубили ему большие пальцы на руках и на ногах.

And Adonibezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their meat under my table: as I have done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.

Тогда сказал правитель Везека: «Семьдесят царей, которым я отрубил большие пальцы рук и ног, кормились объедками с моего стола. Воздал мне Бог по моим делам!» Его увели в Иерусалим, там он и умер.

Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.

Иудеяне3 пошли войной на Иерусалим, овладели им, перебили жителей его мечом, а город предали огню.

And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley.

Потом иудеяне двинулись на ханаанеев, которые населяли нагорье, пустыню Негев и предгорья.

And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba:) and they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.

Также пошли они войной против ханаанеев, живших в Хевроне (который прежде назывался Кирьят-Арбой), и поразили Шешая, Ахимана и Талмая.

And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjathsepher:

Оттуда они пошли4 против жителей Девира (что прежде назывался Кирьят-Сефером).

And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjathsepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.

Халев же пообещал: «Тому, кто нападет на Кирьят-Сефер и возьмет его, я отдам в жены свою дочь Ахсу».

And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.

Отниэль, сын Кеназа, младший брат Халева, захватил этот город, и Халев отдал ему в жены свою дочь Ахсу.

And it came to pass, when she came to him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wilt thou?

Однажды, когда они навещали Халева,5 Ахса уговорила Отниэля6 выпросить у ее отца земельный надел. Когда сошла она со своего осла, Халев спросил ее о том, чего она желает. Она ответила:

And she said unto him, Give me a blessing: for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.

«Прошу тебя о благословенном даре!7 Ты дал мне земли в Негеве,8 так дай мне и водные источники!» И он отдал ей верхние и нижние источники.9

And the children of the Kenite, Moses' father in law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which lieth in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.

А кенеи, потомки тестя Моисея, отправились из Города пальм вместе с иудеянами в Иудейскую пустыню, то есть в Негев около Арада. Там они и поселились среди того народа.

And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.

Колено Иуды вместе с коленом Симеона, своими братьями, пошли войной на ханаанеев, что жили в Цефате, разбили их и предали Цефат заклятью. И стали с тех пор называть это место Хорма.10

Also Judah took Gaza with the coast thereof, and Askelon with the coast thereof, and Ekron with the coast thereof.

Также захватили они и Газу с ее землями, и Ашкелон, и Экрон с их землями.

And the LORD was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.

И ГОСПОДЬ был с коленом Иуды, и они завоевали земли нагорья. Но они не смогли одолеть жителей долин, потому что у тех были колесницы, окованные железом.

And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses said: and he expelled thence the three sons of Anak.

Халеву, как заповедал Моисей, отдали Хеврон, и он изгнал оттуда трех потомков11 Анака.

And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.

А евусеев, живших в Иерусалиме, вениаминитяне так и не изгнали, и живут евусеи с вениаминитянами по сей день.

And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Bethel: and the LORD was with them.

Потомки Иосифа12 также пошли войной на Бет-Эль, и ГОСПОДЬ был с ними.

And the house of Joseph sent to descry Bethel. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.)

Когда их лазутчики осматривали укрепления Бет-Эля (прежнее имя этого города было Луз),

And the spies saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Shew us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will shew thee mercy.

им попался человек, выходивший из города. Они попросили его: «Покажи нам, как пробраться в город, и мы отплатим тебе добром!»13

And when he shewed them the entrance into the city, they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family.

Он показал им, как пробраться в город, и они вошли и перебили жителей мечом, а человека того вместе со всей родней отпустили.

And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the name thereof unto this day.

Отправился он в землю хеттов, и основал там город, и назвал его Луз. И это имя сохранилось за ним по сей день.

Neither did Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Bethshean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns: but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.

Но колено Манассии не сумело захватить Бет-Шеан и Таанах и их окрестные селения и изгнать жителей Дора и Ивлеама и Мегиддо и всех живущих в окрестностях этих городов, так как ханаанеи крепко держались за эти земли.

And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out.

Когда же израильтяне прочно обосновались там, 14 то заставили ханаанеев работать на себя, так и не изгнав их полностью.

Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.

И потомки Ефрема тоже не изгнали ханаанеев, живших в Гезере, — они так и остались жить в Гезере среди ефремлян.

Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries.

И потомки Завулона не изгнали обитателей Китрона и обитателей Нахалола и потому ханаанеи жили среди потомков Завулона15 и работали на них.

Neither did Asher drive out the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob:

Также и потомки Асира не изгнали обитателей Акко, Сидона, Ахлава, Ахзива, Хелбы, Афика и Рехова.

But the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: for they did not drive them out.

И потомки Асира так и жили среди населявших ту землю ханаанеев, не сумев завладеть их землями.

Neither did Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Bethshemesh, nor the inhabitants of Bethanath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Bethshemesh and of Bethanath became tributaries unto them.

Колено Неффалима не изгнало обитателей Бет-Шемеша и Бет-Аната — так и жили они среди ханаанеев, населявших ту землю, а обитателей Бет-Шемеша и Бет-Аната заставили работать на себя.

And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the mountain: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley:

Амореи тем временем оттеснили потомков Дана в нагорье и не пускали их на равнину.

But the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries.

И амореям удалось закрепиться на склонах горы Херес, в Аялоне и Шаалвиме, но когда потомки Иосифа взяли верх и одолели их,16 то заставили амореев работать на себя.

And the coast of the Amorites was from the going up to Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.

(Пределы аморейские начинаются от подъема Акраббим,17 от Селы и далее.)
