Paulus, ein Apostel Christi Jesu durch den Willen Gottes, an die Heiligen in Ephesus, die Gläubigen in Christus Jesus: In wichtigen alten Handschriften fehlt «in Ephesus», aber auch sie haben die Briefüberschrift «An die Epheser».

Paul, apostle of Jesus Christ by God's will, to the saints and faithful in Christ Jesus who are at Ephesus.

Gnade sei mit euch und Friede von Gott, unserm Vater, und dem Herrn Jesus Christus!

Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and [the] Lord Jesus Christ.

Gelobt sei Gott, der Vater unseres Herrn Jesus Christus, der uns gesegnet hat mit allem geistlichen Segen im Himmel durch Christus.

Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenlies in Christ;

Denn in ihm hat er uns erwählt, ehe der Welt Grund gelegt war, daß wir heilig und untadelig vor ihm sein sollten; in seiner Liebe

according as he has chosen us in him before [the] world's foundation, that we should be holy and blameless before him in love;

hat er uns dazu vorherbestimmt, seine Kinder zu sein durch Jesus Christus nach dem Wohlgefallen seines Willens,

having marked us out beforehand for adoption through Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

zum Lob seiner herrlichen Gnade, mit der er uns begnadet hat in dem Geliebten.

to [the] praise of [the] glory of his grace, wherein he has taken us into favour in the Beloved:

In ihm haben wir die Erlösung durch sein Blut, die Vergebung der Sünden, nach dem Reichtum seiner Gnade,

in whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of offences, according to the riches of his grace;

die er uns reichlich hat widerfahren lassen in aller Weisheit und Klugheit.

which he has caused to abound towards us in all wisdom and intelligence,

Denn Gott hat uns wissen lassen das Geheimnis seines Willens nach seinem Ratschluß, den er zuvor in Christus gefaßt hatte,

having made known to us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he purposed in himself

um ihn auszuführen, wenn die Zeit erfüllt wäre, daß alles zusammengefaßt würde in Christus, was im Himmel und auf Erden ist.

for [the] administration of the fulness of times; to head up all things in the Christ, the things in the heavens and the things upon the earth; in him,

In ihm sind wir auch zu Erben eingesetzt worden, die wir dazu vorherbestimmt sind nach dem Vorsatz dessen, der alles wirkt nach dem Ratschluß seines Willens;

in whom we have also obtained an inheritance, being marked out beforehand according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his own will,

damit wir etwas seien zum Lob seiner Herrlichkeit, die wir zuvor auf Christus gehofft haben.

that we should be to [the] praise of his glory who have pre-trusted in the Christ:

In ihm seid auch ihr, die ihr das Wort der Wahrheit gehört habt, nämlich das Evangelium von eurer Seligkeit - in ihm seid auch ihr, als ihr gläubig wurdet, versiegelt worden mit dem heiligen Geist, der verheißen ist,

in whom ye also [have trusted], having heard the word of the truth, the glad tidings of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, ye have been sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,

welcher ist das Unterpfand unsres Erbes, zu unsrer Erlösung, daß wir sein Eigentum würden zum Lob seiner Herrlichkeit.

who is [the] earnest of our inheritance to the redemption of the acquired possession to [the] praise of his glory.

Darum auch ich, nachdem ich gehört habe von dem Glauben bei euch an den Herrn Jesus und von eurer Liebe zu allen Heiligen,

Wherefore I also, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which [is] in you, and the love which [ye have] towards all the saints,

höre ich nicht auf, zu danken für euch, und gedenke euer in meinem Gebet,

do not cease giving thanks for you, making mention [of you] at my prayers,

daß der Gott unseres Herrn Jesus Christus, der Vater der Herrlichkeit, euch gebe den Geist der Weisheit und der Offenbarung, ihn zu erkennen.

that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, would give you [the] spirit of wisdom and revelation in the full knowledge of him,

Und er gebe euch erleuchtete Augen des Herzens, damit ihr erkennt, zu welcher Hoffnung ihr von ihm berufen seid, wie reich die Herrlichkeit seines Erbes für die Heiligen ist

being enlightened in the eyes of your heart, so that ye should know what is the hope of his calling, [and] what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

und wie überschwenglich groß seine Kraft an uns, die wir glauben, weil die Macht seiner Stärke bei uns wirksam wurde,

and what the surpassing greatness of his power towards us who believe, according to the working of the might of his strength,

mit der er in Christus gewirkt hat. Durch sie hat er ihn von den Toten auferweckt und eingesetzt zu seiner Rechten im Himmel ü

[in] which he wrought in the Christ [in] raising him from among [the] dead, and he set him down at his right hand in the heavenlies,

ber alle Reiche, Gewalt, Macht, Herrschaft und alles, was sonst einen Namen hat, nicht allein in dieser Welt, sondern auch in der zukünftigen.

above every principality, and authority, and power, and dominion, and every name named, not only in this age, but also in that to come;

Und alles hat er unter seine Füße getan und hat ihn gesetzt der Gemeinde zum Haupt über alles,

and has put all things under his feet, and gave him [to be] head over all things to the assembly,

welche sein Leib ist, nämlich die Fülle dessen, der alles in allem erfüllt.

which is his body, the fulness of him who fills all in all:
