Now King David was old, advanced in age; and they covered him with clothes, but he could not keep warm.

І цар Давід састарыўся, увайшоў у сталы век, дык накрывалі яго вопраткай, але ня мог сагрэцца.

So his servants said to him, “Let them seek a young virgin for my lord the king, and let her attend the king and become his nurse; and let her lie in your bosom, that my lord the king may keep warm.”

І сказалі яму слугі ягоныя: няхай пашукаюць гаспадару нашаму цару маладую дзяўчыну, каб яна стаяла перад царом і хадзіла за ім і ляжала зь ім, — і будзе цёпла гаспадару нашаму цару.

So they searched for a beautiful girl throughout all the territory of Israel, and found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king.

І шукалі прыгожую дзяўчыну ва ўсіх межах Ізраільскіх, і знайшлі Авісагу Сунаміцянку, і прывялі яе да цара.

The girl was very beautiful; and she became the king’s nurse and served him, but the king did not cohabit with her.

Дзяўчына была вельмі прыгожая, і хадзіла яна за царом і прыслужвала яму; але цар не спазнаў яе.

Now Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, “I will be king.” So he prepared for himself chariots and horsemen with fifty men to run before him.

Аданія, сын Агіты, заганарыўшыся, казаў: я буду царом. І завёў сабе калясьніцы і коньнікаў і пяцьдзясят чалавек скараходаў.

His father had never crossed him at any time by asking, “Why have you done so?” And he was also a very handsome man, and he was born after Absalom.

А бацька ніколі не назаляўся яму пытаньнем: навошта ты гэта робіш? А ён быў вельмі прыгожы і нарадзіўся ў яго пасьля Авэсалома.

He had conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah and with Abiathar the priest; and following Adonijah they helped him.

І раіўся ён зь Ёавам, сынам Саруіным, і з Авіятарам сьвятаром, і яны дапамагалі Аданію.

But Zadok the priest, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei, Rei, and the mighty men who belonged to David, were not with Adonijah.

Adonijah sacrificed sheep and oxen and fatlings by the stone of Zoheleth, which is beside En-rogel; and he invited all his brothers, the king’s sons, and all the men of Judah, the king’s servants.

But he did not invite Nathan the prophet, Benaiah, the mighty men, and Solomon his brother.

А прарока Натана і Ванэю, і тых мацакоў, і Саламона, брата свайго, не запрасіў.

Then Nathan spoke to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying, “Have you not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith has become king, and David our lord does not know it?

Тады Натан сказаў Вірсавіі, маці Саламонавай, кажучы: ці чула ты, што Аданія, сын Агітын, зрабіўся царом, а гаспадар наш Давід, ня ведае пра тое?

“So now come, please let me give you counsel and save your life and the life of your son Solomon.

“Go at once to King David and say to him, ‘Have you not, my lord, O king, sworn to your maidservant, saying, “Surely Solomon your son shall be king after me, and he shall sit on my throne”? Why then has Adonijah become king?’

“Behold, while you are still there speaking with the king, I will come in after you and confirm your words.”

І вось, калі ты яшчэ будзеш гаварыць з царом, увайду і я сьледам за табою і дапоўню словы твае.

So Bathsheba went in to the king in the bedroom. Now the king was very old, and Abishag the Shunammite was ministering to the king.

Вірсавія пайшла да цара ў спальню; цар быў вельмі стары, і Авісага Сунаміцянка прыслужвала цару;

Then Bathsheba bowed and prostrated herself before the king. And the king said, “What do you wish?”

і нахілілася Вірсавія і пакланілася цару; і сказаў цар: што табе?

She said to him, “My lord, you swore to your maidservant by the LORD your God, saying, ‘Surely your son Solomon shall be king after me and he shall sit on my throne.’

Яна сказала яму: гаспадару мой цару! ты прысягаў рабе тваёй Госпадам Богам тваім: сын твой Саламон будзе валадарыць пасьля мяне і ён сядзе на троне маім.

“Now, behold, Adonijah is king; and now, my lord the king, you do not know it.

А цяпер, вось, Аданія зацараваў, і ты, гаспадару мой цару, ня ведаеш пра тое.

“He has sacrificed oxen and fatlings and sheep in abundance, and has invited all the sons of the king and Abiathar the priest and Joab the commander of the army, but he has not invited Solomon your servant.

І закалоў ён многа валоў, цялят і авечак і запрасіў усіх сыноў царскіх і сьвятара Авіятара і ваеначальніка Ёава: а Саламона, раба твайго, не запрасіў.

“As for you now, my lord the king, the eyes of all Israel are on you, to tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.

А ты, гаспадару мой, — цар, і вочы ўсіх Ізраільцянаў глядзяць на цябе, каб ты абвясьціў ім, хто сядзе на троне гаспадара майго цара пасьля яго;

“Otherwise it will come about, as soon as my lord the king sleeps with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon will be considered offenders.”

інакш, калі гаспадар мой цар спачне з бацькамі сваімі, упадзе віна на мяне і на сына майго Саламона.

Behold, while she was still speaking with the king, Nathan the prophet came in.

Калі яна яшчэ гаварыла з царом, прыйшоў і прарок Натан.

They told the king, saying, “Here is Nathan the prophet.” And when he came in before the king, he prostrated himself before the king with his face to the ground.

І сказалі цару, кажучы: вось, Натан прарок. І ўвайшоў ён да цара і пакланіўся цару тварам да зямлі.

Then Nathan said, “My lord the king, have you said, ‘Adonijah shall be king after me, and he shall sit on my throne’?

І сказаў Натан: гаспадару мой цар! ці сказаў ты: Аданія будзе валадарыць пасьля мяне і ён сядзе на троне маім?

“For he has gone down today and has sacrificed oxen and fatlings and sheep in abundance, and has invited all the king’s sons and the commanders of the army and Abiathar the priest, and behold, they are eating and drinking before him; and they say, ‘Long live King Adonijah!’

Бо ён сёньня сышоў і закалоў многа валоў, цялят і авечак і запрасіў усіх сыноў царскіх і ваеначальнікаў і сьвятара Авіятара, і вось, яны ядуць і п’юць у яго і кажуць: хай жыве цар Аданія!

“But me, even me your servant, and Zadok the priest and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada and your servant Solomon, he has not invited.

А мяне, раба твайго, і сьвятара Садока, і Ванэю, сына Ёдаевага, і Саламона, раба твайго, не запрасіў.

“Has this thing been done by my lord the king, and you have not shown to your servants who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?”

Ці ня сталася гэта па волі гаспадара майго цара, і чаму ты не адкрыў рабу твайму, хто сядзе на троне гаспадара майго цара пасьля яго?

Then King David said, “Call Bathsheba to me.” And she came into the king’s presence and stood before the king.

І адказаў цар Давід і сказаў: паклічце да мяне Вірсавію. І ўвайшла яна і стала перад царом.

The king vowed and said, “As the LORD lives, who has redeemed my life from all distress,

І прысягаў цар і сказаў: жывы Гасподзь, Які выбаўляе душу маю ад усякай бяды!

surely as I vowed to you by the LORD the God of Israel, saying, ‘Your son Solomon shall be king after me, and he shall sit on my throne in my place’; I will indeed do so this day.”

як я прысягаў табе Госпадам Богам Ізраілевым, кажучы, што Саламон, сын твой, будзе валадарыць пасьля мяне і ён сядзе на троне маім замест мяне, так я і зраблю гэта сёньня.

Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the ground, and prostrated herself before the king and said, “May my lord King David live forever.”

І нахілілася Вірсавія тварам да зямлі, і пакланілася цару, і сказала: хай жыве гаспадар мой цар Давід вечна!

Then King David said, “Call to me Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada.” And they came into the king’s presence.

І сказаў цар Давід: клікніце мне сьвятара Садока і прарока Натана і Ванэю, сына Ёдаевага. І ўвайшлі яны да цара.

The king said to them, “Take with you the servants of your lord, and have my son Solomon ride on my own mule, and bring him down to Gihon.

І сказаў ім цар: вазьмеце з сабою слуг гаспадара вашага і пасадзеце Саламона, сына майго, на мула майго, і зьвядзеце яго ў Гіён,

“Let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there as king over Israel, and blow the trumpet and say, ‘Long live King Solomon!’

і хай памажа яго там Садок сьвятар і Натан прарок у цара над Ізраілем, і затрубеце ў трубу і абвясьцеце: хай жыве цар Саламон!

“Then you shall come up after him, and he shall come and sit on my throne and be king in my place; for I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and Judah.”

Потым прывядзеце яго назад, і ён прыйдзе і сядзе на троне маім; ён будзе цараваць замест мяне; яму запавядаў я быць правадыром Ізраіля і Юды.

Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king and said, “Amen! Thus may the LORD, the God of my lord the king, say.

І адказваў Ванэя, сын Ёдаеў, цару і сказаў: амін, — хай скажа так Гасподзь Бог гаспадара майго цара:

“As the LORD has been with my lord the king, so may He be with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord King David!”

як быў Гасподзь Бог з гаспадаром маім царом, так хай будзе Ён з Саламонам і хай узвысіць трон ягоны вышэй за трон гаспадара майго цара Давіда!

So Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the Cherethites, and the Pelethites went down and had Solomon ride on King David’s mule, and brought him to Gihon.

І пайшлі Садок сьвятар і Натан прарок і Ванэя, сын Ёдая, Хэлэтэі і Фэлэтэі, і пасадзіла Саламона на мула цара Давіда, і павялі яго ў Гіён.

Zadok the priest then took the horn of oil from the tent and anointed Solomon. Then they blew the trumpet, and all the people said, “Long live King Solomon!”

І ўзяў Садок сьвятар рог з алеем з скініі і памазаў Саламона. І затрубілі ў трубу, і ўвесь народ усклікаў: хай жыве цар Саламон!

All the people went up after him, and the people were playing on flutes and rejoicing with great joy, so that the earth shook at their noise.

І ўвесь народ праводзіў Саламона, і іграў народ на жалейках і вельмі радаваўся, так што зямля расьсядалася ад крыкаў яго.

Now Adonijah and all the guests who were with him heard it as they finished eating. When Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, “Why is the city making such an uproar?”

І пачуў Аданія і ўсе запрошаныя ім, як толькі перасталі есьці; а Ёаў, пачуўшы гук трубы, сказаў: з чаго гэты шум расхваляванага горада?

While he was still speaking, behold, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came. Then Adonijah said, “Come in, for you are a valiant man and bring good news.”

Яшчэ ён гаварыў, як прыйшоў Ёнатан, сын сьвятара Авіятара. І сказаў Аданія: увайдзі; ты — сумленны чалавек і нясеш добрую вестку.

But Jonathan replied to Adonijah, “No! Our lord King David has made Solomon king.

І адказваў Ёнатан і сказаў Аданію: так, гаспадар наш цар паставіў Саламона царом;

“The king has also sent with him Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the Cherethites, and the Pelethites; and they have made him ride on the king’s mule.

і паслаў цар зь ім Садока сьвятара і Натана прарока, і Ванэю, сына Ёдая, і Хэлэтэяў і Фэлэтэяў, і яны пасадзілі яго на мула царскага;

“Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king in Gihon, and they have come up from there rejoicing, so that the city is in an uproar. This is the noise which you have heard.

і памазалі яго Садок сьвятар і Натан прарок у цара ў Гіёне, і адтуль выправіліся з радасьцю, і прыйшоў у рух горад. Вось чаго шум, які вы чуеце.

“Besides, Solomon has even taken his seat on the throne of the kingdom.

І Саламон ужо сеў на царскім троне.

“Moreover, the king’s servants came to bless our lord King David, saying, ‘May your God make the name of Solomon better than your name and his throne greater than your throne!’ And the king bowed himself on the bed.

І слугі цара прыходзілі павіншаваць гаспадара нашага цара Давіда, кажучы: Бог твой няхай праславіць імя Саламона больш за тваё імя і хай узвысіць трон ягоны вышэй за твой трон. І пакланіўся цар на ложку сваім,

“The king has also said thus, ‘Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who has granted one to sit on my throne today while my own eyes see it.’”

і сказаў цар так: дабраславёны Гасподзь Бог Ізраілеў, Які сёньня даў ад семя майго пасаджанага на троне маім, і вочы мае бачаць гэта!

Then all the guests of Adonijah were terrified; and they arose and each went on his way.

Тады спалохаліся і ўсталі ўсе запрошаныя, якія былі ў Аданіі, і пайшлі кожны сваёй дарогаю.

And Adonijah was afraid of Solomon, and he arose, went and took hold of the horns of the altar.

А Аданія, баючыся Саламона, устаў і пайшоў і ўхапіўся за рогі ахвярніка.

Now it was told Solomon, saying, “Behold, Adonijah is afraid of King Solomon, for behold, he has taken hold of the horns of the altar, saying, ‘Let King Solomon swear to me today that he will not put his servant to death with the sword.’”

І данесьлі Саламону, кажучы: вось, Аданія баіцца цара Саламона, і вось, ён трымаецца за рогі ахвярніка, кажучы: хай прысягне мне цяпер цар Саламон, што ён не заб’е раба свайго мечам.

Solomon said, “If he is a worthy man, not one of his hairs will fall to the ground; but if wickedness is found in him, he will die.”

І сказаў Саламон: калі ён будзе чалавекам сумленным, дык ніводзін волас ягоны не ўпадзе на зямлю; калі ж знойдзецца ў ім падступства, дык памрэ.

So King Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and prostrated himself before King Solomon, and Solomon said to him, “Go to your house.”

І паслаў Саламон, і прывялі яго ад ахвярніка. І ён прыйшоў і пакланіўся цару Саламону. І сказаў яму Саламон: ідзі ў дом свой.
