And it came to pass when king Hezekiah heard [it], that he rent his garments, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of Jehovah.

Езекия выслушал весть и разорвал на себе одежды, потом облачился в одежды печали и пошёл в храм Господний.

And he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz.

Езекия отправил смотрителя дворца Елиакима, царского секретаря Севну и старейшин из священников к пророку Исайи, сыну Амоса, которые тоже облачились в одежды печали.

And they said to him, Thus says Hezekiah: This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and of reviling; for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth.

Они пришли и сказали Исайи: "Царь Езекия объявил сегодняшний день днём печали и скорби. Он будет тяжёл, как день, когда должен родиться ребёнок, но у него слишком мало сил, чтобы выйти из утробы матери.

It may be Jehovah thy God will hear the words of Rab-shakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to reproach the living God, and will rebuke the words which Jehovah thy God hath heard. Therefore lift up a prayer for the remnant that is left.

Может быть, твой Господь Бог услышит слова ассирийского военачальника. Царь Ассирии послал его сказать слова, хулящие Живого Бога, и Господь, твой Бог, слышал эти упрёки. Молись, Исайя, за оставшихся в живых людей Израиля".

And the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah.

И пришли слуги царя Езекии к Исайи. Исайя ответил слугам Езекии:

And Isaiah said to them, Thus shall ye say to your master, Thus saith Jehovah: Be not afraid of the words that thou hast heard, wherewith the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.

"Передайте вашим правителям, что Господь говорит: "Не бойтесь слов ассирийского военачальника, не верьте злым словам, которые воины царя Ассирии говорили обо Мне.

Behold, I will put a spirit into him, and he shall hear tidings, and shall return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.

Я пошлю против Ассирии дух, царь Ассирии получит весть об опасности, грозящей его стране, и возвратится обратно. И тогда Я покараю его мечом в его собственной стране".

And Rab-shakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah; for he had heard that he had departed from Lachish.

Царь Ассирии получил весть, в которой говорилось, что царь Эфиопии Тиргак начал войну против него. И царь Ассирии оставил Лахис.

And he heard say of Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, He has come forth to make war with thee. And when he heard [it], he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,

Военачальник ассирийский, услышав это, направился тоже в Ливну, где царь Ассирии сражался с эфиопской армией. Потом он отправил гонца к Езекии со словами:

Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying: Let not thy God, upon whom thou reliest, deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.

"Ты должен сказать следующее Езекии, царю Иудеи: "Не давай Богу, в Которого веришь, тебя одурачивать. И не говори, что Бог не позволит Иерусалиму быть побеждённым ассирийским царём.

Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all countries, destroying them utterly; and shalt thou be delivered?

Ты слышал о царях Ассирии, которые победили все страны? Так и тебя царь Ассирии победит и убьёт.

Have the gods of the nations which my fathers have destroyed delivered them, Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden that were in Thelassar?

Разве спасли те народы их боги? Нет, их уничтожили мои отцы. Мой народ победил города Гозан, Харан, Рецеф, народ Едена, живущий в Фалассаре.

Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah?

Где цари Емафа и Арпада, где царь Сепарваим, где цари Ены и Иввы? Их нет, они уничтожены".

And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it; and Hezekiah went up into the house of Jehovah, and spread it before Jehovah.

Езекия получил весть и прочитал её, а потом отправился в храм Господний, где развернул свиток с вестью и положил перед Господом.

And Hezekiah prayed to Jehovah, saying,

И начал Езекия молиться Богу и сказал:

Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, who sittest [between] the cherubim, thou, the Same, thou alone art the God of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made the heavens and the earth.

"Господь Всемогущий, Бог Израиля, Ты сидишь, словно царь на херувимах. Ты и только Ты — Бог, правящий всеми царствами на земле. Ты сотворил небеса и землю.

Incline thine ear, O Jehovah, and hear; open, Jehovah, thine eyes, and see; and hear all the words of Sennacherib, who hath sent to reproach the living God.

Услышь меня, открой свои очи и узри слова Сеннахирима, принесшего мне эту весть, хулящую Тебя, живого Бога.

Of a truth, Jehovah, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the lands, and their countries,

Господи, цари Ассирии на самом деле уничтожили все эти страны!

and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone; and they have destroyed them.

Цари Ассирии сожгли богов тех народов, но это были идолы, сделанные человеком из дерева или камня, они не были истинным Богом. Потому-то он и смог истребить их!

And now, Jehovah our God, save us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art Jehovah, thou only.

Но Ты — Господь, наш Бог, и мы просим Тебя спасти нас от царя Ассирии. И все другие народы узнают, что Ты — единственный, Господи, что Ты — Бог".

And Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith Jehovah the God of Israel, Whereas thou hast prayed to me concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria,

И тогда Исайя, сын Амоса, послал весть Езекии. Он сказал: "Ты молился Господу, Богу Израиля, о вести, пришедшей от Сеннахирима.

this is the word which Jehovah hath spoken against him: The virgin-daughter of Zion despiseth thee, laugheth thee to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem shaketh her head at thee.

И вот какое слово о нём послал тебе Господь: "Царь Ассирии, невеста Сиона презирает тебя и насмехается над тобой. Дочь Иерусалима насмехается над тобою.

Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted the voice? Against the Holy One of Israel hast thou lifted up thine eyes on high.

Царь Ассирии, ты говорил обо Мне плохо, ты надо Мною смеялся. Подними взор к небу и увидишь, что ты говорил плохо о Святом Израиля.

By thy servants thou hast reproached the Lord, and hast said, With the multitude of my chariots am I come up to the height of the mountains, to the recesses of Lebanon; and I will cut down its tall cedars, the choice of its cypresses; and I will enter into its furthest height, [into] the forest of its fruitful field.

Ты заставил своих слуг говорить против Господа, ты сказал: "Я могуч, у меня много колесниц, я силой своей Ливан покорил, я на высокие горы Ливана забрался и срубил его великие деревья. Я был на самой высокой горе и в самой густой чаще леса.

I have digged and drunk water; and with the sole of my feet have I dried up all the streams of Matsor.

Силой своей я победил Египет, я зачерпнул руками и напился воды, и вошёл я в реки Египта, и они пересохли от ног моих".

Hast thou not heard that long ago I did it, and that from ancient days I formed it? Now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest lay waste fortified cities [into] ruinous heaps.

Но Господь сказал: "Царь Ассирии, даже в своей отдалённой стране ты, наверное, слышал, что Я сам создал всё это! Я создал это много лет назад! А сегодня Я привёл тебя сюда. Я позволял тебе разрушать другие города, чтобы сделать дело Моё и превратить города эти в груды камней.

And their inhabitants were powerless, they were dismayed and put to shame; they were [as] the grass of the field and the green herb, [as] the grass on the housetops, and grain blighted before it be grown up.

Люди, жившие в тех городах, были слабы, они были напуганы и опозорены, они были травой полевой, травой на крышах домов. Так сжигает знойный пустынный ветер траву раньше, чем она станет высокой.

But I know thine abode, and thy going out, and thy coming in, and thy raging against me.

Я всё знаю о тебе и о твоей армии, знаю о том, где ты стоял лагерем, знаю, когда ты вышел и когда возвратился, знаю и о твоём яростном гневе против Меня.

Because thy raging against me and thine arrogance is come up into mine ears, I will put my ring in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will make thee go back by the way by which thou camest.

Да, ты неистовствовал против Меня и говорил обо Мне плохо, Я это слышал и за это тебя накажу. Я продену в твой нос крюк и вложу тебе в рот удила, Я заставлю тебя покинуть страну Мою той же дорогой, которой ты пришёл сюда".

And this [shall be] the sign unto thee: there shall be eaten this year such as groweth of itself; and in the second year that which springeth of the same; but in the third year sow ye, and reap, and plant vineyards and eat the fruit thereof.

И сказал Господь Езекии: "Я дам тебе знамение, что слова эти истинны. В этом году ты должен будешь есть зерно, оставшееся с прошлого года, на следующий год урожай принесут растения, которые вырастут сами по себе, а на третий год ты посеешь семена и соберёшь зерно, посадишь виноградники и будешь есть их плоды.

And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward;

И тогда те из Иудеи, кто выживет, будут расти, словно растение, у которого сильные корни внизу и множество плодов над землёй.

for out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and out of mount Zion they that escape: the zeal of Jehovah of hosts shall do this.

Ибо оставшиеся придут из Иерусалима, будут выжившие на Сионе". И великая любовь Всемогущего Бога сделает всё это.

Therefore thus saith Jehovah concerning the king of Assyria: He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a bank against it.

Поэтому вот что говорит Господь царю Ассирии: "Ты не войдёшь в этот город и не выпустишь в него ни одной стрелы, и не подойдёшь к стенам его со своими боевыми машинами. Ты не построишь вал вокруг городских стен.

By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith Jehovah.

Ты повернёшь обратно в свою страну и пойдёшь по той же дороге, по которой пришёл сюда, не войдя в город! Так говорит Господь.

And I will defend this city, to save it, for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.

Я защищу и спасу этот город, Я сделаю всё ради Себя и ради слуги Моего, Давида".

And an angel of Jehovah went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and eighty-five thousand. And when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead bodies.

И сошёл Ангел Господний и убил сто восемьдесят пять тысяч человек в ассирийском стане. Люди проснулись утром и увидели мёртвые тела вокруг себя.

And Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and abode at Nineveh.

И отступил Сеннахирим, царь Ассирии, и пошёл в Ниневию.

And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. And Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.

Однажды Сеннахирим находился в храме своего бога Нисроха, и два его сына, Адрамелех и Шарецер, зарубили его мечом, а сами убежали на Арарат. И новым царём Ассирии стал его третий сын, Асардан.
