Now the whole earth used the same language and the same words.

На всей земле был один язык и одно наречие.

It came about as they journeyed east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there.

Двинувшись с востока, они нашли в земле Сеннаар равнину и поселились там.

They said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and burn them thoroughly.” And they used brick for stone, and they used tar for mortar.

И сказали друг другу: наделаем кирпичей и обожжем огнем. И стали у них кирпичи вместо камней, а земляная смола вместо извести.

They said, “Come, let us build for ourselves a city, and a tower whose top will reach into heaven, and let us make for ourselves a name, otherwise we will be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”

И сказали они: построим себе город и башню, высотою до небес, и сделаем себе имя, прежде нежели рассеемся по лицу всей земли.

The LORD came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built.

И сошел Господь посмотреть город и башню, которые строили сыны человеческие.

The LORD said, “Behold, they are one people, and they all have the same language. And this is what they began to do, and now nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them.

И сказал Господь: вот, один народ, и один у всех язык; и вот что начали они делать, и не отстанут они от того, что задумали делать;

“Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, so that they will not understand one another’s speech.”

сойдем же и смешаем там язык их, так чтобы один не понимал речи другого.

So the LORD scattered them abroad from there over the face of the whole earth; and they stopped building the city.

И рассеял их Господь оттуда по всей земле; и они перестали строить город [и башню].

Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of the whole earth; and from there the LORD scattered them abroad over the face of the whole earth.

Посему дано ему имя: Вавилон, ибо там смешал Господь язык всей земли, и оттуда рассеял их Господь по всей земле.

These are the records of the generations of Shem. Shem was one hundred years old, and became the father of Arpachshad two years after the flood;

Вот родословие Сима: Сим был ста лет и родил Арфаксада, через два года после потопа;

and Shem lived five hundred years after he became the father of Arpachshad, and he had other sons and daughters.

по рождении Арфаксада Сим жил пятьсот лет и родил сынов и дочерей [и умер].

Arpachshad lived thirty-five years, and became the father of Shelah;

Арфаксад жил тридцать пять [135] лет и родил [Каинана. По рождении Каинана Арфаксад жил триста тридцать лет и родил сынов и дочерей и умер. Каинан жил сто тридцать лет, и родил] Салу.

and Arpachshad lived four hundred and three years after he became the father of Shelah, and he had other sons and daughters.

По рождении Салы Арфаксад [Каинан] жил четыреста три [330] года и родил сынов и дочерей [и умер].

Shelah lived thirty years, and became the father of Eber;

Сала жил тридцать [130] лет и родил Евера.

and Shelah lived four hundred and three years after he became the father of Eber, and he had other sons and daughters.

По рождении Евера Сала жил четыреста три [330] года и родил сынов и дочерей [и умер].

Eber lived thirty-four years, and became the father of Peleg;

Евер жил тридцать четыре [134] года и родил Фалека.

and Eber lived four hundred and thirty years after he became the father of Peleg, and he had other sons and daughters.

По рождении Фалека Евер жил четыреста тридцать [370] лет и родил сынов и дочерей [и умер].

Peleg lived thirty years, and became the father of Reu;

Фалек жил тридцать [130] лет и родил Рагава.

and Peleg lived two hundred and nine years after he became the father of Reu, and he had other sons and daughters.

По рождении Рагава Фалек жил двести девять лет и родил сынов и дочерей [и умер].

Reu lived thirty-two years, and became the father of Serug;

Рагав жил тридцать два [132] года и родил Серуха.

and Reu lived two hundred and seven years after he became the father of Serug, and he had other sons and daughters.

По рождении Серуха Рагав жил двести семь лет и родил сынов и дочерей [и умер].

Serug lived thirty years, and became the father of Nahor;

Серух жил тридцать [130] лет и родил Нахора.

and Serug lived two hundred years after he became the father of Nahor, and he had other sons and daughters.

По рождении Нахора Серух жил двести лет и родил сынов и дочерей [и умер].

Nahor lived twenty-nine years, and became the father of Terah;

Нахор жил двадцать девять [79] лет и родил Фарру.

and Nahor lived one hundred and nineteen years after he became the father of Terah, and he had other sons and daughters.

По рождении Фарры Нахор жил сто девятнадцать [129] лет и родил сынов и дочерей [и умер].

Terah lived seventy years, and became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran.

Фарра жил семьдесят лет и родил Аврама, Нахора и Арана.

Now these are the records of the generations of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran; and Haran became the father of Lot.

Вот родословие Фарры: Фарра родил Аврама, Нахора и Арана. Аран родил Лота.

Haran died in the presence of his father Terah in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldeans.

И умер Аран при Фарре, отце своем, в земле рождения своего, в Уре Халдейском.

Abram and Nahor took wives for themselves. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor’s wife was Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah and Iscah.

Аврам и Нахор взяли себе жен; имя жены Аврамовой: Сара; имя жены Нахоровой: Милка, дочь Арана, отца Милки и отца Иски.

Sarai was barren; she had no child.

И Сара была неплодна и бездетна.

Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran, his grandson, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram’s wife; and they went out together from Ur of the Chaldeans in order to enter the land of Canaan; and they went as far as Haran, and settled there.

И взял Фарра Аврама, сына своего, и Лота, сына Аранова, внука своего, и Сару, невестку свою, жену Аврама, сына своего, и вышел с ними из Ура Халдейского, чтобы идти в землю Ханаанскую; но, дойдя до Харрана, они остановились там.

The days of Terah were two hundred and five years; and Terah died in Haran.

И было дней [жизни] Фарры [в Харранской земле] двести пять лет, и умер Фарра в Харране.
