And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had much cattle, a very great multitude; and they saw the land of Jaazer, and the land of Gilead, and behold, the place was a place for cattle.

У сынов Рувимовых и у сынов Гадовых стад было весьма много; и увидели они, что земля Иазер и земля Галаад — место, годное для стад;

And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spoke to Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and to the princes of the assembly, saying,

и пришли сыны Гадовы и сыны Рувимовы и сказали Моисею и Елеазару, священнику, и князьям общества, говоря:

Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jaazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elaleh, and Sebam, and Nebo, and Beon,

«Атароф, и Дивон, и Иазер, и Нимра, и Есевон, и Елеале, и Севам, и Нево, и Веон,

the country that Jehovah smote before the assembly of Israel, is a land for cattle, and thy servants have cattle;

земля, которую Господь поразил пред обществом Израилевым, земля, годная для стад, а у рабов твоих есть стада».

and they said, If we have found favour in thine eyes, let this land be given to thy servants for a possession: bring us not over the Jordan.

И сказали: «Если мы нашли благоволение в глазах твоих, отдай землю эту рабам твоим во владение; не переводи нас через Иордан».

And Moses said to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye abide here?

И сказал Моисей сынам Гадовым и сынам Рувимовым: «Братья ваши пойдут на войну, а вы останетесь здесь?

And why do ye discourage the children of Israel from going over into the land that Jehovah has given them?

Почему вы отвращаете сердце сынов Израилевых от перехода в землю, которую дает им Господь?

Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the land:

Так поступили отцы ваши, когда я посылал их из Кадес-Варни для обозрения земли:

they went up to the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, and discouraged the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land that Jehovah had given them.

они доходили до долины Есхол, и видели землю, и отвратили сердце сынов Израилевых, чтобы не шли они в землю, которую Господь дает им;

And Jehovah's anger was kindled the same time, and he swore, saying,

и воспылал в тот день гнев Господа, и поклялся Он, говоря:

If the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land that I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob! for they have not wholly followed me;

„Люди эти, вышедшие из Египта, от двадцати лет и выше, не увидят земли, о которой Я клялся Аврааму, Исааку и Иакову, потому что они не повиновались Мне,

save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, and Joshua the son of Nun; for they have wholly followed Jehovah.

кроме Халева, сына Иефоннии, кенезея, и Иисуса, сына Навина, потому что они повиновались Господу“.

And Jehovah's anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until the whole generation was consumed that had done evil in the eyes of Jehovah.

И воспылал гнев Господа на Израиля, и водил Он их по пустыне сорок лет, доколе не кончился весь род, сделавший зло в очах Господних.

And behold, ye are risen up in your fathers' stead, a progeny of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of Jehovah toward Israel.

И вот, вместо отцов ваших восстали вы, отродье грешников, чтоб усилить еще ярость гнева Господнего на Израиля.

If ye turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and ye shall destroy all this people.

Если вы отвратитесь от Него, то Он опять оставит его в пустыне, и вы погубите весь народ этот».

And they drew near to him, and said, We will build sheepfolds here for our cattle, and cities for our little ones;

И подошли они к нему и сказали: «Мы построим здесь овечьи дворы для стад наших и города для детей наших;

but we ourselves will go with diligence armed before the children of Israel, until we have brought them to their place; and our little ones shall dwell in the strong cities because of the inhabitants of the land.

сами же мы первые вооружимся и пойдем пред сынами Израилевыми, доколе не приведем их в места их; а дети наши пусть останутся в укрепленных городах, для безопасности от жителей земли;

We will not return to our houses, until the children of Israel have inherited each one his inheritance.

не возвратимся в дома наши, доколе не вступят сыны Израилевы каждый в удел свой;

For we will not inherit with them on yonder side the Jordan, and further, because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side the Jordan eastward.

ибо мы не возьмем с ними удела по ту сторону Иордана и далее, если удел нам достанется по эту сторону Иордана, к востоку».

And Moses said to them, If ye do this thing, if ye arm yourselves before Jehovah for war,

И сказал им Моисей: «Если вы это сделаете, если вооруженные пойдете на войну пред Господом,

and all of you that are armed go over the Jordan before Jehovah, until he have dispossessed his enemies from before him,

и пойдет каждый из вас вооруженный за Иордан пред Господом, доколе не истребит Он врагов Своих пред Собою,

and the land is subdued before Jehovah, and afterwards ye return, ye shall be guiltless toward Jehovah and toward Israel, and this land shall be your possession before Jehovah.

и покорена будет земля пред Господом, то после возвратитесь и будете неповинны пред Господом и пред Израилем, и будет земля эта у вас во владении пред Господом;

But if ye do not do so, behold, ye have sinned against Jehovah, and be sure your sin will find you out.

если же не сделаете так, то согрешите пред Господом и испытаете наказание за грех ваш, которое постигнет вас.

Build yourselves cities for your little ones, and folds for your flocks, and do that which has gone out of your mouth.

Стройте себе города для детей ваших и дворы для овец ваших и делайте, что произнесено устами вашими».

And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben spoke to Moses, saying, Thy servants will do as my lord commands.

И сказали сыны Гадовы и сыны Рувимовы Моисею: «Рабы твои сделают, как повелевает господин наш;

Our little ones, our wives, our cattle, and all our beasts shall be there in the cities of Gilead;

дети наши, жены наши, стада наши и весь скот наш останутся тут, в городах Галаада,

but thy servants will pass over, every one armed for war, before Jehovah to battle, as my lord says.

а рабы твои, все, вооружившись, как воины, пойдут пред Господом на войну, как говорит господин наш».

So concerning them Moses commanded Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the chief fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel.

И дал Моисей о них повеление Елеазару, священнику, и Иисусу, сыну Навина, и начальникам племен сынов Израилевых,

And Moses said unto them, If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben pass with you over the Jordan, every one armed for battle, before Jehovah, and the land be subdued before you, then ye shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession;

и сказал им Моисей: «Если сыны Гадовы и сыны Рувимовы перейдут с вами за Иордан, все, вооружившись на войну пред Господом, и покорена будет перед вами земля, то отдайте им землю Галаад во владение;

but if they do not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.

если же не пойдут они с вами вооруженные, то они получат владение вместе с вами в земле ханаанской».

And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben answered, saying, As Jehovah has said to thy servants, so will we do.

И отвечали сыны Гадовы и сыны Рувимовы и сказали: «Как сказал Господь рабам твоим, так и сделаем;

We will pass over armed before Jehovah into the land of Canaan, and the possession of our inheritance on this side the Jordan shall be ours.

мы пойдем вооруженные пред Господом в землю ханаанскую, а удел владения нашего пусть будет по эту сторону Иордана».

And Moses gave to them, to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and to half the tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og the king of Bashan, the land, according to its cities and territories, the cities of the land round about.

И отдал Моисей им, сынам Гадовым, и сынам Рувимовым, и половине колена Манассиина, сына Иосифа, царство Сигона, царя аморрейского, и царство Ога, царя васанского, землю с городами ее и окрестностями, — города земли во все стороны.

And the children of Gad built Dibon, and Ataroth, and Aroer,

И построили сыны Гадовы Дивон, и Атароф, и Ароер,

and Atroth-Shophan, and Jaazer, and Jogbebah,

и Атароф-Шофан, и Иазер, и Иогбегу,

and Beth-Nimrah, and Beth-haran, strong cities, and sheepfolds.

и Беф-Нимру, и Беф-Гаран, города укрепленные, и дворы для овец.

-- And the children of Reuben built Heshbon, and Elaleh, and Kirjathaim,

И сыны Рувимовы построили Есевон, Елеале, Кириафаим,

and Nebo, and Baal-meon (of which the names were changed), and Sibmah; and they gave other names to the cities that they built.

и Нево, и Ваал-Меон, которых имена переменены, и Сивму и дали имена городам, которые они построили.

And the children of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead, And took it, And they dispossessed the Amorites that were therein.

И пошли сыны Махира, сына Манассии, в Галаад, и взяли его, и выгнали аморреев, которые были в нем;

And Moses gave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh; and he dwelt therein.

и отдал Моисей Галаад Махиру, сыну Манассии, и он поселился в нем.

And Jair the son of Manasseh went and took their hamlets, and called them Havoth-Jair.

И Иаир, сын Манассии, пошел и взял селения их и назвал их: селения Иаира.

And Nobah went and took Kenath, and its dependent villages, and called it Nobah, after his name.

И Новах пошел и взял Кенаф и зависящие от него города и назвал его своим именем — Новах.
