Paulus, ein Apostel Christi Jesu durch den Willen Gottes, und Bruder Timotheus

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timotheus our brother,

an die Heiligen in Kolossä, die gläubigen Brüder in Christus: Gnade sei mit euch und Friede von Gott, unserm Vater!

To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ which are at Colosse: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Wir danken Gott, dem Vater unseres Herrn Jesus Christus, allezeit, wenn wir für euch beten,

We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,

da wir gehört haben von eurem Glauben an Christus Jesus und von der Liebe, die ihr zu allen Heiligen habt,

Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints,

um der Hoffnung willen, die für euch bereit ist im Himmel. Von ihr habt ihr schon zuvor gehört durch das Wort der Wahrheit, das Evangelium,

For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;

das zu euch gekommen ist, wie es auch in aller Welt Frucht bringt und auch bei euch wächst von dem Tag an, da ihr's gehört und die Gnade Gottes erkannt habt in der Wahrheit.

Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth:

So habt ihr's gelernt von Epaphras, unserm lieben Mitknecht, der ein treuer Diener Christi für euch ist,

As ye also learned of Epaphras our dear fellowservant, who is for you a faithful minister of Christ;

der uns auch berichtet hat von eurer Liebe im Geist.

Who also declared unto us your love in the Spirit.

Darum lassen wir auch von dem Tag an, an dem wir's gehört haben, nicht ab, für euch zu beten und zu bitten, daß ihr erfüllt werdet mit der Erkenntnis seines Willens in aller geistlichen Weisheit und Einsicht,

For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

daß ihr des Herrn würdig lebt, ihm in allen Stücken gefallt und Frucht bringt in jedem guten Werk und wachst in der Erkenntnis Gottes

That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

und gestärkt werdet mit aller Kraft durch seine herrliche Macht zu aller Geduld und Langmut.

Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;

Mit Freuden sagt Dank dem Vater, der euch tüchtig gemacht hat zu dem Erbteil der Heiligen im Licht.

Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

Er hat uns errettet von der Macht der Finsternis und hat uns versetzt in das Reich seines lieben Sohnes,

Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

in dem wir die Erlösung haben, nämlich die Vergebung der Sünden.

In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

Er ist das Ebenbild des unsichtbaren Gottes, der Erstgeborene vor aller Schöpfung.

Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

Denn in ihm ist alles geschaffen, was im Himmel und auf Erden ist, das Sichtbare und das Unsichtbare, es seien Throne oder Herrschaften oder Mächte oder Gewalten; es ist alles durch ihn und zu ihm geschaffen.

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

Und er ist vor allem, und es besteht alles in ihm.

And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

Und er ist das Haupt des Leibes, nämlich der Gemeinde. Er ist der Anfang, der Erstgeborene von den Toten, damit er in allem der Erste sei.

And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

Denn es hat Gott wohlgefallen, daß in ihm alle Fülle wohnen sollte

For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;

und er durch ihn alles mit sich versöhnte, es sei auf Erden oder im Himmel, indem er Frieden machte durch sein Blut am Kreuz.

And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

Auch euch, die ihr einst fremd und feindlich gesinnt wart in bösen Werken,

And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled

hat er nun versöhnt durch den Tod seines sterblichen Leibes, damit er euch heilig und untadelig und makellos vor sein Angesicht stelle;

In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:

wenn ihr nur bleibt im Glauben, gegründet und fest, und nicht weicht von der Hoffnung des Evangeliums, das ihr gehört habt und das gepredigt ist allen Geschöpfen unter dem Himmel. Sein Diener bin ich, Paulus, geworden.

If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;

Nun freue ich mich in den Leiden, die ich für euch leide, und erstatte an meinem Fleisch, was an den Leiden Christi noch fehlt, für seinen Leib, das ist die Gemeinde.

Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:

Ihr Diener bin ich geworden durch das Amt, das Gott mir gegeben hat, daß ich euch sein Wort reichlich predigen soll,

Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;

nämlich das Geheimnis, das verborgen war seit ewigen Zeiten und Geschlechtern, nun aber ist es offenbart seinen Heiligen,

Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:

denen Gott kundtun wollte, was der herrliche Reichtum dieses Geheimnisses unter den Heiden ist, nämlich Christus in euch, die Hoffnung der Herrlichkeit.

To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

Den verkündigen wir und ermahnen alle Menschen und lehren alle Menschen in aller Weisheit, damit wir einen jeden Menschen in Christus vollkommen machen.

Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:

Dafür mühe ich mich auch ab und ringe in der Kraft dessen, der in mir kräftig wirkt.

Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.
