Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world.

Возлюбленнии, не всякому духу веруйте, но искушайте духи, аще от Бога суть: яко мнози лжепророцы изыдоша в мир.

This is how we know if they have the Spirit of God: If a person claiming to be a propheta acknowledges that Jesus Christ came in a real body, that person has the Spirit of God.

О сем познавайте Духа Божия и духа лестча: всяк дух, иже исповедует Иисуса Христа во Плоти пришедша, от Бога есть:

But if someone claims to be a prophet and does not acknowledge the truth about Jesus, that person is not from God. Such a person has the spirit of the Antichrist, which you heard is coming into the world and indeed is already here.

и всяк дух, иже не исповедует Иисуса Христа во Плоти пришедша, от Бога несть: и сей есть антихристов, егоже слышасте, яко грядет, и ныне в мире есть уже.

But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.

Вы от Бога есте, чадца, и победисте тех: яко болий есть иже в вас, нежели иже в мире.

Those people belong to this world, so they speak from the world’s viewpoint, and the world listens to them.

Они от мира суть: сего ради от мира глаголют, и мир тех послушает.

But we belong to God, and those who know God listen to us. If they do not belong to God, they do not listen to us. That is how we know if someone has the Spirit of truth or the spirit of deception.

Мы от Бога есмы: иже знает Бога, послушает нас, и иже несть от Бога, не послушает нас. О сем познаваем Духа истины и духа лестча.

Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God.

Возлюбленнии, возлюбим друг друга, яко любы от Бога есть, и всяк любяй от Бога рожден есть, и знает Бога:

But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

а не любяй не позна Бога, яко Бог любы есть.

God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him.

О сем явися любы Божия в нас, яко Сына своего единороднаго посла Бог в мир, да живи будем им.

This is real love — not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.

О сем есть любы, не яко мы возлюбихом Бога, но яко той возлюби нас, и посла Сына своего очищение о гресех наших.

Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other.

Возлюбленнии, аще сице возлюбил есть нас Бог, и мы должни есмы друг друга любити.

No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us.

Бога никтоже нигдеже виде. Аще друг друга любим, Бог в нас пребывает, и любы его совершенна есть в нас.

And God has given us his Spirit as proof that we live in him and he in us.

О сем разумеем, яко в нем пребываем, и той в нас, яко от Духа своего дал есть нам.

Furthermore, we have seen with our own eyes and now testify that the Father sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.

И мы видехом и свидетелствуем, яко Отец посла Сына спасителя миру.

All who declare that Jesus is the Son of God have God living in them, and they live in God.

Иже аще исповесть, яко Иисус есть Сын Божий, Бог в нем пребывает, и той в Бозе.

We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.

И мы познахом и веровахом любовь, юже имать Бог к нам. Бог любы есть, и пребываяй в любви в Бозе пребывает, и Бог в нем пребывает.

And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world.

О сем совершается любы с нами, да дерзновение имамы в день судный, зане, якоже он есть, и мы есмы в мире сем.

Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.

Страха несть в любви, но совершенна любы вон изгоняет страх, яко страх муку имать: бояйся же не совершися в любви.

We love each otherb because he loved us first.

Мы любим его, яко той первее возлюбил есть нас.

If someone says, “I love God,” but hates a fellow believer,c that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see?

Аще кто речет, яко люблю Бога, а брата своего ненавидит, ложь есть: ибо не любяй брата своего, егоже виде, Бога, егоже не виде, како может любити?

And he has given us this command: Those who love God must also love their fellow believers.d

И сию заповедь имамы от него, да любяй Бога любит и брата своего.
