One day the Pharisees and Sadducees came to test Jesus, demanding that he show them a miraculous sign from heaven to prove his authority.

К Иисусу подошли фарисеи и саддукеи — они Его искушали и просили показать им знамение с неба.

He replied, “You know the saying, ‘Red sky at night means fair weather tomorrow;

А Он сказал им в ответ:— На закате вы говорите: «будет ясно, раз небо красное».

red sky in the morning means foul weather all day.’ You know how to interpret the weather signs in the sky, but you don’t know how to interpret the signs of the times!a

Или на рассвете: «будет ненастье, раз небо в багровых тучах». Вы можете распознавать по небесным приметам погоду — а времена по их приметам не можете?

Only an evil, adulterous generation would demand a miraculous sign, but the only sign I will give them is the sign of the prophet Jonah.b” Then Jesus left them and went away.

Род злой и развратный ищет знамения, но не будет ему дано иного, кроме знамения Ионы.И с этими словами Он их оставил.

Later, after they crossed to the other side of the lake, the disciples discovered they had forgotten to bring any bread.

Ученики, переправляясь на другой берег озера, забыли взять с собой хлеба.

“Watch out!” Jesus warned them. “Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”

Иисус им сказал:— Смотрите, остерегайтесь закваски фарисейской и саддукейской!

At this they began to argue with each other because they hadn’t brought any bread.

Они стали так рассуждать меж собой: мол, Он про то, что хлеба мы не взяли.

Jesus knew what they were saying, so he said, “You have so little faith! Why are you arguing with each other about having no bread?

Он это понял и сказал им:— Что это вы меж собой рассуждаете, маловерные: мол, хлеба у вас нет?

Don’t you understand even yet? Don’t you remember the 5,000 I fed with five loaves, and the baskets of leftovers you picked up?

Вы ничего так и не поняли? Вы не запомнили: когда Я разломил пять хлебов для пяти тысяч людей, сколько набрали вы корзин?

Or the 4,000 I fed with seven loaves, and the large baskets of leftovers you picked up?

А когда семь хлебов для четырех тысяч, сколько корзинок вышло?

Why can’t you understand that I’m not talking about bread? So again I say, ‘Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.’”

Что же тут для вас непонятного? «Остерегайтесь закваски фарисейской и саддукейской! — это я вам сказал не про хлеб.

Then at last they understood that he wasn’t speaking about the yeast in bread, but about the deceptive teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

Так они поняли, что Он велел им остерегаться не хлебной закваски, а учения фарисеев и саддукеев.

When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”c

Оттуда Иисус пошел в окрестности Кесарии Филипповой. Он спросил учеников:— Кем считают люди Сына Человеческого?

“Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.”

Они ответили:— Кто Иоанном Крестителем, кто Илией, кто Иеремией или кем-то другим из пророков.

Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?”

И Он спросил их:— А вы Кем считаете Меня?

Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah,d the Son of the living God.”

Симон Петр сказал Ему в ответ:— Ты — Христос, Сын Бога Живого!

Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John,e because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being.

А Иисус ответил ему:— Благо тебе, Симон, сын Ионы! Это открыли тебе не плоть и не кровь, а Отец Мой Небесный.

Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’),f and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hellg will not conquer it.

И Я скажу тебе: ты — Петр, и на этой скале Я воздвигну Свою церковь, и врата ада ее не поглотят.

And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you forbidh on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permiti on earth will be permitted in heaven.”

Дам тебе ключи Царства Небес, и что свяжешь на земле — останется связанным на небесах, а что разрешишь на земле — останется разрешенным и на небесах.

Then he sternly warned the disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.

Тогда же Он строго запретил ученикам говорить кому бы то ни было, что Он — Христос.

From then on Jesusj began to tell his disciples plainly that it was necessary for him to go to Jerusalem, and that he would suffer many terrible things at the hands of the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law. He would be killed, but on the third day he would be raised from the dead.

С тех пор Иисус начал говорить ученикам, что Ему предстоит отправиться в Иерусалим, там претерпеть много страданий от старейшин, первосвященников и книжников, что будет Он убит и через три дня воскреснет.

But Peter took him aside and began to reprimand himk for saying such things. “Heaven forbid, Lord,” he said. “This will never happen to you!”

А Петр отвел Его в сторону и стал уговаривать:— Пожалей Себя, Господи! Пусть ничего такого с Тобой не случится!

Jesus turned to Peter and said, “Get away from me, Satan! You are a dangerous trap to me. You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.”

А Иисус повернулся и ответил Петру:— Прочь, сатана! Ты сбиваешь Меня с пути, на уме у тебя не Божье, а человеческое.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me.

А потом Иисус сказал Своим ученикам:— Кто хочет пойти вслед за Мной, пусть отречется от себя самого, поднимет крест, на котором его распнут, и следует за Мной.

If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.

Кто захочет сберечь свою душу — тот ее погубит, а кто погубит ее ради Меня, тот ее сбережет.

And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?l Is anything worth more than your soul?

Что выгадает человек, если приобретет весь мир, а душе своей нанесет ущерб? Какой выкуп сможет дать человек за свою душу?

For the Son of Man will come with his angels in the glory of his Father and will judge all people according to their deeds.

Сыну Человеческому еще предстоит прийти во славе Своего Отца, и тогда каждому Он воздаст по заслугам.

And I tell you the truth, some standing here right now will not die before they see the Son of Man coming in his Kingdom.”

Аминь говорю вам, что среди стоящих здесь некоторые не успеют вкусить смерти прежде, чем увидят, как Сын Человеческий придет вместе со Своим Царством.
