One day the Pharisees and Sadducees came to test Jesus, demanding that he show them a miraculous sign from heaven to prove his authority.

Там Иисуса обступили фарисеи и саддукеи, которые, желая испытать Его, просили, чтобы Он показал им знамение с неба.

He replied, “You know the saying, ‘Red sky at night means fair weather tomorrow;

Иисус ответил: — На закате, увидев, что небо красное, вы говорите: «Будет хорошая погода»,

red sky in the morning means foul weather all day.’ You know how to interpret the weather signs in the sky, but you don’t know how to interpret the signs of the times!a

а на рассвете, если небо заволокло багровыми тучами: «Будет буря». Вы знаете, что означают приметы неба, а истолковать знаков времени не можете.

Only an evil, adulterous generation would demand a miraculous sign, but the only sign I will give them is the sign of the prophet Jonah.b” Then Jesus left them and went away.

Злое и развратное поколение ищет знамения, но ему не будет дано никакого знамения, кроме знамения Ионы[99]. И, оставив их, Иисус ушел.

Later, after they crossed to the other side of the lake, the disciples discovered they had forgotten to bring any bread.

Переправляясь на другую сторону озера, ученики забыли взять с собой хлеба.

“Watch out!” Jesus warned them. “Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”

Иисус же сказал им: — Смотрите, берегитесь закваски фарисеев и саддукеев.

At this they began to argue with each other because they hadn’t brought any bread.

Ученики стали рассуждать между собой: — Он говорит это потому, что мы не взяли с собой хлеба.

Jesus knew what they were saying, so he said, “You have so little faith! Why are you arguing with each other about having no bread?

Иисус, зная, о чем они говорят, сказал: — Маловеры, почему вы рассуждаете между собой о том, что у вас нет хлеба?

Don’t you understand even yet? Don’t you remember the 5,000 I fed with five loaves, and the baskets of leftovers you picked up?

Неужели вы ещё не поняли? Разве вы не помните, как пяти хлебов хватило на пять тысяч человек? Сколько вы тогда собрали корзин с остатками?

Or the 4,000 I fed with seven loaves, and the large baskets of leftovers you picked up?

А сколько корзин остатков вы собрали, когда четыре тысячи[100] мужчин наелись семью хлебами?

Why can’t you understand that I’m not talking about bread? So again I say, ‘Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.’”

Как вы не можете понять, что, говоря: «Берегитесь закваски фарисеев и саддукеев», Я говорю не о хлебе?

Then at last they understood that he wasn’t speaking about the yeast in bread, but about the deceptive teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

Тогда ученики поняли, что Он предостерегал их не от закваски, которую кладут в хлеб, а от учения фарисеев и саддукеев.

When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”c

Когда Иисус пришёл в окрестности Кесарии Филипповой, Он спросил Своих учеников: — За кого люди принимают Сына Человеческого?

“Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.”

Ученики ответили: — Одни говорят, что Ты — Иоанн Креститель, другие — что Илия, а третьи — что Иеремия или один из других пророков.

Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?”

— А вы кем считаете Меня? — спросил их Иисус.

Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah,d the Son of the living God.”

Симон Петр ответил: — Ты Христос, Сын живого Бога.

Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John,e because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being.

Тогда Иисус сказал: — Блажен ты, Симон, сын Ионы, потому что это было открыто тебе не людьми, а Моим Небесным Отцом.

Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’),f and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hellg will not conquer it.

И Я говорю тебе: ты — Петр[101], и на этой скале Я построю Мою Церковь, и врата ада[102] не одолеют её.

And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you forbidh on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permiti on earth will be permitted in heaven.”

Я дам тебе ключи от Небесного Царства, и что ты запретишь на земле, то будет запрещено на небесах, и всё, что ты разрешишь на земле, будет разрешено и на небесах.

Then he sternly warned the disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.

Затем Иисус велел ученикам никому не говорить о том, что Он — Христос.

From then on Jesusj began to tell his disciples plainly that it was necessary for him to go to Jerusalem, and that he would suffer many terrible things at the hands of the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law. He would be killed, but on the third day he would be raised from the dead.

С этого времени Иисус начал объяснять ученикам, что Он должен идти в Иерусалим и там много пострадать от старейшин, первосвященников и учителей Закона, что Он будет убит, но на третий день воскреснет.

But Peter took him aside and began to reprimand himk for saying such things. “Heaven forbid, Lord,” he said. “This will never happen to you!”

Тогда Петр отвел Его в сторону и стал возражать: — Да помилует Тебя Бог! Пусть не случится с Тобой этого, Господи!

Jesus turned to Peter and said, “Get away from me, Satan! You are a dangerous trap to me. You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.”

Иисус же, обернувшись, сказал Петру: — Прочь от Меня, сатана! Ты Мне камень преткновения, потому что рассуждаешь по-человечески и не понимаешь того, что хочет Бог.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me.

Потом Иисус сказал ученикам: — Если кто желает быть Моим последователем, пусть отречется от самого себя, возьмет свой крест и последует за Мной,

If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.

потому что тот, кто хочет сберечь свою жизнь, потеряет её, а кто потеряет свою жизнь[103] ради Меня, тот обретет её вновь.

And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?l Is anything worth more than your soul?

Какая польза человеку, если он приобретет весь мир, но при этом повредит своей душе? Или что даст человек в обмен за свою душу?

For the Son of Man will come with his angels in the glory of his Father and will judge all people according to their deeds.

Когда Сын Человеческий придет в славе Своего Отца, окруженный Своими ангелами, тогда Он воздаст каждому по его делам.

And I tell you the truth, some standing here right now will not die before they see the Son of Man coming in his Kingdom.”

Говорю вам истину: некоторые из вас, стоящих здесь, не умрут, пока не увидят прежде Сына Человеческого, пришедшего в Своем Царстве.
