One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up.

Желая показать ученикам, что следует всегда молиться и не унывать, Иисус рассказал им такую притчу.

“There was a judge in a certain city,” he said, “who neither feared God nor cared about people.

— В одном городе был судья, который не боялся Бога и не стыдился людей.

A widow of that city came to him repeatedly, saying, ‘Give me justice in this dispute with my enemy.’

В том же городе жила вдова, которая постоянно ходила к нему и умоляла: "Защити меня от моего противника".

The judge ignored her for a while, but finally he said to himself, ‘I don’t fear God or care about people,

Некоторое время судья ей отказывал, но в конце концов решил: "Пусть я Бога не боюсь и с людьми не считаюсь,

but this woman is driving me crazy. I’m going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!’”

но так как эта вдова постоянно надоедает мне, то я разрешу ее тяжбу, иначе она замучит меня своими просьбами".

Then the Lord said, “Learn a lesson from this unjust judge.

И Господь сказал: — Слышите, что сказал несправедливый судья?

Even he rendered a just decision in the end. So don’t you think God will surely give justice to his chosen people who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?

Так неужели Бог не защитит своих избранных, которые взывают к Нему день и ночь? Неужели Он будет медлить с помощью?

I tell you, he will grant justice to them quickly! But when the Son of Mana returns, how many will he find on the earth who have faith?”

Говорю вам: Он без промедления защитит их. Но когда Сын Человеческий придет, то найдет ли Он веру на земле?

Then Jesus told this story to some who had great confidence in their own righteousness and scorned everyone else:

Тем, кто уверен в собственной праведности и с презрением смотрит на других, Иисус рассказал такую притчу:

“Two men went to the Temple to pray. One was a Pharisee, and the other was a despised tax collector.

— Два человека пришли в храм помолиться. Один из них был фарисей, а другой — сборщик податей.

The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed this prayerb: ‘I thank you, God, that I am not like other people — cheaters, sinners, adulterers. I’m certainly not like that tax collector!

Фарисей, встав отдельно от других, молился так: "Боже, благодарю Тебя, что я не такой, как другие люди: воры, мошенники, развратники или как этот сборщик податей.

I fast twice a week, and I give you a tenth of my income.’

Я пощусь два раза в неделю и даю десятину со всякого дохода".

“But the tax collector stood at a distance and dared not even lift his eyes to heaven as he prayed. Instead, he beat his chest in sorrow, saying, ‘O God, be merciful to me, for I am a sinner.’

А сборщик податей, стоя вдали, не смел даже глаз к небу поднять, но бил себя в грудь и говорил: "Боже, будь милостив ко мне, грешнику".

I tell you, this sinner, not the Pharisee, returned home justified before God. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

Говорю вам, что этот человек пошел домой более оправданным перед Богом, чем первый. Потому что каждый, возвышающий себя, будет унижен, и каждый унижающий себя будет возвышен.

One day some parents brought their little children to Jesus so he could touch and bless them. But when the disciples saw this, they scolded the parents for bothering him.

К Иисусу приносили маленьких детей, чтобы Он прикоснулся к ним. Когда ученики это увидели, то стали запрещать им.

Then Jesus called for the children and said to the disciples, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children.

Но Иисус подозвал к себе детей и сказал: — Пусть дети приходят ко Мне, не запрещайте им, потому что Царство Бога принадлежит таким, как они.

I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.”

Говорю вам истину: тот, кто не примет Божье Царство, как ребенок, не войдет в него.

Once a religious leader asked Jesus this question: “Good Teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life?”

Один начальник спросил Его: — Добрый Учитель, что мне делать, чтобы наследовать вечную жизнь?

“Why do you call me good?” Jesus asked him. “Only God is truly good.

— Почему ты называешь Меня добрым? — спросил Иисус. — Никто не добр, кроме одного Бога.

But to answer your question, you know the commandments: ‘You must not commit adultery. You must not murder. You must not steal. You must not testify falsely. Honor your father and mother.’c”

Ты знаешь заповеди: "Не нарушай супружеской верности", "Не убивай", "Не кради", "Не давай ложных свидетельств", "Чти своего отца и мать"...

The man replied, “I’ve obeyed all these commandments since I was young.”

— Все это я соблюдаю еще с юности, — ответил тот.

When Jesus heard his answer, he said, “There is still one thing you haven’t done. Sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

Услышав это, Иисус сказал ему: — Одного тебе не хватает. Продай все, что у тебя есть, и раздай деньги нищим, и тогда у тебя будет сокровище на небе. Потом приходи и следуй за Мной.

But when the man heard this he became very sad, for he was very rich.

Когда начальник услышал это, он опечалился, потому что был очень богат.

When Jesus saw this,d he said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the Kingdom of God!

Иисус посмотрел на него и сказал: — Как трудно богатому войти в Божье Царство!

In fact, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God!”

Верблюду легче пройти сквозь игольное ушко, чем богатому войти в Божье Царство.

Those who heard this said, “Then who in the world can be saved?”

Те, кто это слышал, спросили: — Кто же тогда вообще может быть спасен?

He replied, “What is impossible for people is possible with God.”

Иисус ответил: — Невозможное человеку возможно Богу.

Peter said, “We’ve left our homes to follow you.”

Тогда Петр сказал: — Вот, мы оставили все, что у нас было, и пошли за Тобой!

“Yes,” Jesus replied, “and I assure you that everyone who has given up house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the Kingdom of God,

Иисус сказал им: — Говорю вам правду, каждый, кто оставил дом, или жену, или братьев, или родителей, или детей ради Божьего Царства,

will be repaid many times over in this life, and will have eternal life in the world to come.”

получит во много раз больше в этом веке, а в веке будущем — вечную жизнь.

Taking the twelve disciples aside, Jesus said, “Listen, we’re going up to Jerusalem, where all the predictions of the prophets concerning the Son of Man will come true.

Иисус отвел двенадцать учеников в сторону и сказал им: — Вот, мы сейчас идем в Иерусалим, и там исполнится все, написанное пророками о Сыне Человеческом.

He will be handed over to the Romans,e and he will be mocked, treated shamefully, and spit upon.

Он будет отдан язычникам, те будут насмехаться над Ним, унижать Его, плевать в Него,

They will flog him with a whip and kill him, but on the third day he will rise again.”

бить и в конце концов убьют. Но на третий день Он воскреснет.

But they didn’t understand any of this. The significance of his words was hidden from them, and they failed to grasp what he was talking about.

Ученики ничего из этого не поняли, все, что Он сказал, было для них закрыто, и они не догадывались, что Он имел в виду.

As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind beggar was sitting beside the road.

Когда Иисус подходил к Иерихону, у дороги сидел слепой и просил милостыню.

When he heard the noise of a crowd going past, he asked what was happening.

Услышав, что мимо идет толпа, он спросил, что происходит.

They told him that Jesus the Nazarenef was going by.

— Идет Иисус из Назарета, — сказали ему.

So he began shouting, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Тогда слепой закричал: — Иисус, Сын Давида! Сжалься надо мной!

“Be quiet!” the people in front yelled at him. But he only shouted louder, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Те, что шли впереди, стали говорить, чтобы он замолчал, но слепой кричал еще громче: — Сын Давида, сжалься надо мной!

When Jesus heard him, he stopped and ordered that the man be brought to him. As the man came near, Jesus asked him,

Иисус остановился и велел, чтобы этого человека подвели к Нему. Когда тот подошел, Иисус спросил его:

“What do you want me to do for you?” “Lord,” he said, “I want to see!”

— Что ты хочешь, чтобы Я сделал для тебя? — Господи, я хочу снова видеть, — ответил слепой.

And Jesus said, “All right, receive your sight! Your faith has healed you.”

Иисус сказал ему: — Прозри! Твоя вера исцелила тебя! —

Instantly the man could see, and he followed Jesus, praising God. And all who saw it praised God, too.

И к человеку сразу же вернулось зрение. Он пошел за Иисусом, славя Бога. И весь народ, увидев это, восхвалял Бога.
