The Israelites did evil in the LORD’s sight. So the LORD handed them over to the Midianites for seven years.

Сыны́ Изра́илевы ста́ли опя́ть де́лать зло́е пред оча́ми Го́спода, и преда́л их Госпо́дь в ру́ки Мадианитя́н на семь лет.

The Midianites were so cruel that the Israelites made hiding places for themselves in the mountains, caves, and strongholds.

Тяжела́ была́ рука́ Мадианитя́н над Изра́илем, и сыны́ Изра́илевы сде́лали себе́ от Мадианитя́н уще́лья в гора́х и пеще́ры и укрепле́ния.

Whenever the Israelites planted their crops, marauders from Midian, Amalek, and the people of the east would attack Israel,

Когда́ посе́ет Изра́иль, приду́т Мадианитя́не и Амаликитя́не и жи́тели восто́ка и хо́дят у них;

camping in the land and destroying crops as far away as Gaza. They left the Israelites with nothing to eat, taking all the sheep, goats, cattle, and donkeys.

и стоя́т у них шатра́ми, и истребля́ют произведе́ния земли́ до са́мой Га́зы, и не оставля́ют для пропита́ния Изра́илю ни овцы́, ни вола́, ни осла́.

These enemy hordes, coming with their livestock and tents, were as thick as locusts; they arrived on droves of camels too numerous to count. And they stayed until the land was stripped bare.

И́бо они́ приходи́ли со ското́м свои́м и с шатра́ми свои́ми, приходи́ли в тако́м мно́жестве, как саранча́; им и верблю́дам их не́ бы́ло числа́, и ходи́ли по земле́ Изра́илевой, чтоб опустоша́ть её.

So Israel was reduced to starvation by the Midianites. Then the Israelites cried out to the LORD for help.

И весьма́ обнища́л Изра́иль от Мадианитя́н, и возопи́ли сыны́ Изра́илевы к Го́споду.

When they cried out to the LORD because of Midian,

И когда́ возопи́ли сыны́ Изра́илевы к Го́споду на Мадианитя́н,

the LORD sent a prophet to the Israelites. He said, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I brought you up out of slavery in Egypt.

посла́л Госпо́дь проро́ка к сына́м Изра́илевым, и сказа́л им: так говори́т Госпо́дь, Бог Изра́илев: Я вы́вел вас из Еги́пта, вы́вел вас из до́ма ра́бства;

I rescued you from the Egyptians and from all who oppressed you. I drove out your enemies and gave you their land.

изба́вил вас из руки́ Египтя́н и из руки́ всех, угнета́вших вас, прогна́л их от вас, и дал вам зе́млю их,

I told you, ‘I am the LORD your God. You must not worship the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you now live.’ But you have not listened to me.”

и сказа́л вам: «Я — Госпо́дь, Бог ваш; не чти́те бого́в Аморре́йских, в земле́ кото́рых вы живёте»; но вы не послу́шали гла́са Моего́.

Then the angel of the LORD came and sat beneath the great tree at Ophrah, which belonged to Joash of the clan of Abiezer. Gideon son of Joash was threshing wheat at the bottom of a winepress to hide the grain from the Midianites.

И пришёл А́нгел Госпо́день и сел в О́фре под ду́бом, принадлежа́щим Иоа́су, пото́мку Авиезе́рову; сын его́ Гедео́н выкола́чивал тогда́ пшени́цу в точи́ле, что́бы скры́ться от Мадианитя́н.

The angel of the LORD appeared to him and said, “Mighty hero, the LORD is with you!”

И яви́лся ему́ А́нгел Госпо́день и сказа́л ему́: Госпо́дь с тобо́ю, муж си́льный!

“Sir,” Gideon replied, “if the LORD is with us, why has all this happened to us? And where are all the miracles our ancestors told us about? Didn’t they say, ‘The LORD brought us up out of Egypt’? But now the LORD has abandoned us and handed us over to the Midianites.”

Гедео́н сказа́л ему́: господи́н мой! е́сли Госпо́дь с на́ми, то отчего́ пости́гло нас всё э́то? и где все чудеса́ Его́, о кото́рых расска́зывали нам отцы́ на́ши, говоря́: «из Еги́пта вы́вел нас Госпо́дь»? Ны́не оста́вил нас Госпо́дь и преда́л нас в ру́ки Мадианитя́н.

Then the LORD turned to him and said, “Go with the strength you have, and rescue Israel from the Midianites. I am sending you!”

Госпо́дь, воззре́в на него́, сказа́л: иди́ с э́тою си́лою твое́ю и спаси́ Изра́иля от руки́ Мадианитя́н; Я посыла́ю тебя́.

“But Lord,” Gideon replied, “how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest in the whole tribe of Manasseh, and I am the least in my entire family!”

Гедео́н сказа́л ему́: Го́споди! как спасу́ я Изра́иля? вот, и пле́мя моё в коле́не Мана́ссиином са́мое бе́дное, и я в до́ме отца́ моего́ мла́дший.

The LORD said to him, “I will be with you. And you will destroy the Midianites as if you were fighting against one man.”

И сказа́л ему́ Госпо́дь: Я бу́ду с тобо́ю, и ты порази́шь Мадианитя́н, как одного́ челове́ка.

Gideon replied, “If you are truly going to help me, show me a sign to prove that it is really the LORD speaking to me.

Гедео́н сказа́л Ему́: е́сли я обрёл благода́ть пред оча́ми Твои́ми, то сде́лай мне знаме́ние, что Ты говори́шь со мно́ю:

Don’t go away until I come back and bring my offering to you.” He answered, “I will stay here until you return.”

не уходи́ отсю́да, доко́ле я не приду́ к Тебе́ и не принесу́ да́ра моего́ и не предложу́ Тебе́. Он сказа́л: Я оста́нусь до возвраще́ния твоего́.

Gideon hurried home. He cooked a young goat, and with a basketa of flour he baked some bread without yeast. Then, carrying the meat in a basket and the broth in a pot, he brought them out and presented them to the angel, who was under the great tree.

Гедео́н пошёл и пригото́вил козлёнка и опре́сноков из е́фы муки́; мя́со положи́л в корзи́ну, а похлёбку влил в горшо́к и принёс к Нему́ под дуб и предложи́л.

The angel of God said to him, “Place the meat and the unleavened bread on this rock, and pour the broth over it.” And Gideon did as he was told.

И сказа́л ему́ А́нгел Бо́жий: возьми́ мя́со и опре́сноки, и положи́ на сей ка́мень, и вы́лей похлёбку. Он так и сде́лал.

Then the angel of the LORD touched the meat and bread with the tip of the staff in his hand, and fire flamed up from the rock and consumed all he had brought. And the angel of the LORD disappeared.

А́нгел Госпо́день простёр коне́ц же́зла, кото́рый был в руке́ его́, прикосну́лся к мя́су и опре́снокам; и вы́шел ого́нь из ка́мня и пое́л мя́со и опре́сноки; и А́нгел Госпо́день скры́лся от глаз его́.

When Gideon realized that it was the angel of the LORD, he cried out, “Oh, Sovereign LORD, I’m doomed! I have seen the angel of the LORD face to face!”

И уви́дел Гедео́н, что э́то А́нгел Госпо́день, и сказа́л Гедео́н: увы́ мне, Влады́ка Го́споди! потому́ что я ви́дел А́нгела Госпо́дня лицо́м к лицу́.

“It is all right,” the LORD replied. “Do not be afraid. You will not die.”

Госпо́дь сказа́л ему́: мир тебе́, не бо́йся, не умрёшь.

And Gideon built an altar to the LORD there and named it Yahweh-Shalom (which means “the LORD is peace”). The altar remains in Ophrah in the land of the clan of Abiezer to this day.

И устро́ил там Гедео́н же́ртвенник Го́споду и назва́л его́: Иего́ва Шало́м. Он ещё до сего́ дня в О́фре Авиезе́ровой.

That night the LORD said to Gideon, “Take the second bull from your father’s herd, the one that is seven years old. Pull down your father’s altar to Baal, and cut down the Asherah pole standing beside it.

В ту ночь сказа́л ему́ Госпо́дь: возьми́ тельца́ из ста́да отца́ твоего́ и друго́го тельца́ семиле́тнего, и разру́шь же́ртвенник Ваа́ла, кото́рый у отца́ твоего́, и сруби́ свяще́нное де́рево, кото́рое при нём,

Then build an altar to the LORD your God here on this hilltop sanctuary, laying the stones carefully. Sacrifice the bull as a burnt offering on the altar, using as fuel the wood of the Asherah pole you cut down.”

и поста́вь же́ртвенник Го́споду, Бо́гу твоему́, на верши́не скалы́ сей, в поря́дке, и возьми́ второ́го тельца́ и принеси́ во всесожже́ние на дрова́х де́рева, кото́рое сру́бишь.

So Gideon took ten of his servants and did as the LORD had commanded. But he did it at night because he was afraid of the other members of his father’s household and the people of the town.

Гедео́н взял де́сять челове́к из рабо́в свои́х и сде́лал, как говори́л ему́ Госпо́дь; но как сде́лать э́то днём он боя́лся дома́шних отца́ своего́ и жи́телей го́рода, то сде́лал но́чью.

Early the next morning, as the people of the town began to stir, someone discovered that the altar of Baal had been broken down and that the Asherah pole beside it had been cut down. In their place a new altar had been built, and on it were the remains of the bull that had been sacrificed.

Поутру́ вста́ли жи́тели го́рода, и вот, же́ртвенник Ваа́лов разру́шен, и де́рево при нём сру́блено, и второ́й теле́ц вознесён во всесожже́ние на новоустро́енном же́ртвеннике.

The people said to each other, “Who did this?” And after asking around and making a careful search, they learned that it was Gideon, the son of Joash.

И говори́ли друг дру́гу: кто э́то сде́лал? Иска́ли, расспра́шивали и сказа́ли: Гедео́н, сын Иоа́сов, сде́лал э́то.

“Bring out your son,” the men of the town demanded of Joash. “He must die for destroying the altar of Baal and for cutting down the Asherah pole.”

И сказа́ли жи́тели го́рода Иоа́су: вы́веди сы́на твоего́; он до́лжен умере́ть за то, что разру́шил же́ртвенник Ваа́ла и сруби́л де́рево, кото́рое бы́ло при нём.

But Joash shouted to the mob that confronted him, “Why are you defending Baal? Will you argue his case? Whoever pleads his case will be put to death by morning! If Baal truly is a god, let him defend himself and destroy the one who broke down his altar!”

Иоа́с сказа́л всем приступи́вшим к нему́: вам ли вступа́ться за Ваа́ла, вам ли защища́ть его́? кто всту́пится за него́, тот бу́дет пре́дан сме́рти в э́то же у́тро; е́сли он Бог, то пусть сам всту́пится за себя́, потому́ что он разру́шил его́ же́ртвенник.

From then on Gideon was called Jerub-baal, which means “Let Baal defend himself,” because he broke down Baal’s altar.

И стал звать его́ с того́ дня Иероваа́лом, потому́ что сказа́л: пусть Ваа́л сам су́дится с ним за то, что он разру́шил же́ртвенник его́.

Soon afterward the armies of Midian, Amalek, and the people of the east formed an alliance against Israel and crossed the Jordan, camping in the valley of Jezreel.

Ме́жду те́м все Мадианитя́не и Амаликитя́не и жи́тели восто́ка собра́лись вме́сте, перешли́ ре́ку и ста́ли ста́ном на доли́не Изрее́льской.

Then the Spirit of the LORD clothed Gideon with power. He blew a ram’s horn as a call to arms, and the men of the clan of Abiezer came to him.

И Дух Госпо́день объя́л Гедео́на; он воструби́л трубо́ю, и со́звано бы́ло пле́мя Авиезе́рово идти́ за ним.

He also sent messengers throughout Manasseh, Asher, Zebulun, and Naphtali, summoning their warriors, and all of them responded.

И посла́л посло́в по всему́ коле́ну Мана́ссиину, и оно́ вы́звалось идти́ за ним; та́кже посла́л посло́в к Аси́ру, Завуло́ну и Неффали́му, и сии́ пришли́ навстре́чу им.

Then Gideon said to God, “If you are truly going to use me to rescue Israel as you promised,

И сказа́л Гедео́н Бо́гу: е́сли Ты спасёшь Изра́иля руко́ю мое́ю, как говори́л Ты,

prove it to me in this way. I will put a wool fleece on the threshing floor tonight. If the fleece is wet with dew in the morning but the ground is dry, then I will know that you are going to help me rescue Israel as you promised.”

то вот, я расстелю́ здесь на гумне́ стри́женую шерсть: е́сли роса́ бу́дет то́лько на ше́рсти, а на всей земле́ су́хо, то бу́ду знать, что спасёшь руко́ю мое́ю Изра́иля, как говори́л Ты.

And that is just what happened. When Gideon got up early the next morning, he squeezed the fleece and wrung out a whole bowlful of water.

Так и сде́лалось: на друго́й день, встав ра́но, он стал выжима́ть шерсть и вы́жал из ше́рсти росы́ це́лую ча́шу воды́.

Then Gideon said to God, “Please don’t be angry with me, but let me make one more request. Let me use the fleece for one more test. This time let the fleece remain dry while the ground around it is wet with dew.”

И сказа́л Гедео́н Бо́гу: не прогне́вайся на меня́, е́сли ещё раз скажу́ и ещё то́лько одна́жды сде́лаю испыта́ние над ше́рстью: пусть бу́дет су́хо на одно́й то́лько ше́рсти, а на всей земле́ пусть бу́дет роса́.

So that night God did as Gideon asked. The fleece was dry in the morning, but the ground was covered with dew.

Бог так и сде́лал в ту ночь: то́лько на ше́рсти бы́ло су́хо, а на всей земле́ была́ роса́.
