These are the nations that the LORD left in the land to test those Israelites who had not experienced the wars of Canaan.

Вот те наро́ды, кото́рых оста́вил Госпо́дь, что́бы искуша́ть и́ми Израильтя́н, всех, кото́рые не зна́ли о всех во́йнах Ханаа́нских,

He did this to teach warfare to generations of Israelites who had no experience in battle.

для того́ то́лько, что́бы зна́ли и учи́лись войне́ после́дующие роды́ сыно́в Изра́илевых, кото́рые пре́жде не зна́ли её:

These are the nations: the Philistines (those living under the five Philistine rulers), all the Canaanites, the Sidonians, and the Hivites living in the mountains of Lebanon from Mount Baal-hermon to Lebo-hamath.

пять владе́льцев Филисти́мских, все Ханане́и, Сидоня́не и Еве́и, живу́щие на горе́ Лива́не, от горы́ Ваа́л-Ермо́на до вхо́да в Ема́ф.

These people were left to test the Israelites — to see whether they would obey the commands the LORD had given to their ancestors through Moses.

Они́ бы́ли оста́влены, что́бы искуша́ть и́ми Израильтя́н и узна́ть, повину́ются ли они́ за́поведям Госпо́дним, кото́рые Он запове́дал отца́м их че́рез Моисе́я.

So the people of Israel lived among the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites,

И жи́ли сыны́ Изра́илевы среди́ Ханане́ев, Хетте́ев, Аморре́ев, Ферезе́ев, Еве́ев и Иевусе́ев,

and they intermarried with them. Israelite sons married their daughters, and Israelite daughters were given in marriage to their sons. And the Israelites served their gods.

и бра́ли дочере́й их себе́ в жёны, и свои́х дочере́й отдава́ли за сынове́й их, и служи́ли бога́м их.

The Israelites did evil in the LORD’s sight. They forgot about the LORD their God, and they served the images of Baal and the Asherah poles.

И сде́лали сыны́ Изра́илевы зло́е пред оча́ми Го́спода, и забы́ли Го́спода, Бо́га своего́, и служи́ли Ваа́лам и Аста́ртам.

Then the LORD burned with anger against Israel, and he turned them over to King Cushan-rishathaim of Aram-naharaim.a And the Israelites served Cushan-rishathaim for eight years.

И воспыла́л гнев Госпо́день на Изра́иля, и преда́л их в ру́ки Хусарсафе́ма, царя́ Месопота́мского, и служи́ли сыны́ Изра́илевы Хусарсафе́му во́семь лет.

But when the people of Israel cried out to the LORD for help, the LORD raised up a rescuer to save them. His name was Othniel, the son of Caleb’s younger brother, Kenaz.

Тогда́ возопи́ли сыны́ Изра́илевы к Го́споду, и воздви́гнул Госпо́дь спаси́теля сына́м Изра́илевым, кото́рый спас их, Гофонии́ла, сы́на Кена́за, мла́дшего бра́та Хале́вова.

The Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he became Israel’s judge. He went to war against King Cushan-rishathaim of Aram, and the LORD gave Othniel victory over him.

На нём был Дух Госпо́день, и был он судьёю Изра́иля. Он вы́шел на войну́, и преда́л Госпо́дь в ру́ки его́ Хусарсафе́ма, царя́ Месопота́мского, и преодоле́ла рука́ его́ Хусарсафе́ма.

So there was peace in the land for forty years. Then Othniel son of Kenaz died.

И поко́илась земля́ со́рок лет. И у́мер Гофонии́л, сын Кена́за.

Once again the Israelites did evil in the LORD’s sight, and the LORD gave King Eglon of Moab control over Israel because of their evil.

Сыны́ Изра́илевы опя́ть ста́ли де́лать зло́е пред оча́ми Го́спода, и укрепи́л Госпо́дь Егло́на, царя́ Моави́тского, про́тив Израильтя́н, за то, что они́ де́лали зло́е пред оча́ми Го́спода.

Eglon enlisted the Ammonites and Amalekites as allies, and then he went out and defeated Israel, taking possession of Jericho, the city of palms.

Он собра́л к себе́ Аммонитя́н и Амаликитя́н, и пошёл и порази́л Изра́иля, и овладе́ли они́ го́родом Пальм.

And the Israelites served Eglon of Moab for eighteen years.

И служи́ли сыны́ Изра́илевы Егло́ну, царю́ Моави́тскому, восемна́дцать лет.

But when the people of Israel cried out to the LORD for help, the LORD again raised up a rescuer to save them. His name was Ehud son of Gera, a left-handed man of the tribe of Benjamin. The Israelites sent Ehud to deliver their tribute money to King Eglon of Moab.

Тогда́ возопи́ли сыны́ Изра́илевы к Го́споду, и Госпо́дь воздви́гнул им спаси́теля Ао́да, сы́на Ге́ры, сы́на Ие́миниева, кото́рый был левша́. И посла́ли сыны́ Изра́илевы с ним дары́ Егло́ну, царю́ Моави́тскому.

So Ehud made a double-edged dagger that was about a footb long, and he strapped it to his right thigh, keeping it hidden under his clothing.

Ао́д сде́лал себе́ меч с двумя́ острия́ми, длино́ю в ло́коть, и припоя́сал его́ под плащо́м свои́м к пра́вому бедру́,

He brought the tribute money to Eglon, who was very fat.

и поднёс дары́ Егло́ну, царю́ Моави́тскому; Егло́н же был челове́к о́чень ту́чный.

After delivering the payment, Ehud started home with those who had helped carry the tribute.

Когда́ поднёс Ао́д все дары́ и проводи́л люде́й, принёсших дары́,

But when Ehud reached the stone idols near Gilgal, he turned back. He came to Eglon and said, “I have a secret message for you.” So the king commanded his servants, “Be quiet!” and he sent them all out of the room.

то сам возврати́лся от истука́нов, кото́рые в Галга́ле, и сказа́л: у меня́ есть та́йное сло́во до тебя́, царь. Он сказа́л: ти́ше! И вы́шли от него́ все стоя́вшие при нём.

Ehud walked over to Eglon, who was sitting alone in a cool upstairs room. And Ehud said, “I have a message from God for you!” As King Eglon rose from his seat,

Ао́д вошёл к нему́: он сиде́л в прохла́дной го́рнице, кото́рая была́ у него́ отде́льно. И сказа́л Ао́д: у меня́ есть до тебя́ сло́во Бо́жие. Егло́н встал со сту́ла.

Ehud reached with his left hand, pulled out the dagger strapped to his right thigh, and plunged it into the king’s belly.

Ао́д простёр ле́вую ру́ку свою́ и взял меч с пра́вого бедра́ своего́ и вонзи́л его́ в чре́во его́,

The dagger went so deep that the handle disappeared beneath the king’s fat. So Ehud did not pull out the dagger, and the king’s bowels emptied.c

так что вошла́ за остриём и рукоя́ть, и тук закры́л остриё, и́бо Ао́д не вы́нул меча́ из чре́ва его́, и он прошёл в за́дние ча́сти.

Then Ehud closed and locked the doors of the room and escaped down the latrine.d

И вы́шел Ао́д в преддве́рие, и затвори́л за собо́ю две́ри го́рницы, и замкну́л.

After Ehud was gone, the king’s servants returned and found the doors to the upstairs room locked. They thought he might be using the latrine in the room,

Когда́ он вы́шел, рабы́ Егло́на пришли́ и ви́дят, вот, две́ри го́рницы за́мкнуты, и говоря́т: ве́рно, он для нужды́ в прохла́дной ко́мнате.

so they waited. But when the king didn’t come out after a long delay, they became concerned and got a key. And when they opened the doors, they found their master dead on the floor.

Жда́ли дово́льно до́лго, но, ви́дя, что никто́ не отпира́ет двере́й го́рницы, взя́ли ключ и о́тперли, и вот, господи́н их лежи́т на земле́ мёртвый.

While the servants were waiting, Ehud escaped, passing the stone idols on his way to Seirah.

Пока́ они́ недоумева́ли, Ао́д ме́жду те́м ушёл, прошёл ми́мо истука́нов и спа́сся в Сеира́ф.

When he arrived in the hill country of Ephraim, Ehud sounded a call to arms. Then he led a band of Israelites down from the hills.

Придя́ же, воструби́л трубо́ю на горе́ Ефре́мовой, и сошли́ с ним сыны́ Изра́илевы с горы́, и он шёл впереди́ их.

“Follow me,” he said, “for the LORD has given you victory over Moab your enemy.” So they followed him. And the Israelites took control of the shallow crossings of the Jordan River across from Moab, preventing anyone from crossing.

И сказа́л им: иди́те за мно́ю, и́бо преда́л Госпо́дь враго́в ва́ших Моавитя́н в ру́ки ва́ши. И пошли́ за ним, и перехвати́ли перепра́ву че́рез Иорда́н к Моа́ву, и не дава́ли никому́ переходи́ть.

They attacked the Moabites and killed about 10,000 of their strongest and most able-bodied warriors. Not one of them escaped.

И поби́ли в то вре́мя Моавитя́н о́коло десяти́ ты́сяч челове́к, всех здоро́вых и си́льных, и никто́ не убежа́л.

So Moab was conquered by Israel that day, and there was peace in the land for eighty years.

Так смири́лись в тот день Моавитя́не пред Изра́илем, и поко́илась земля́ во́семьдесят лет.

After Ehud, Shamgar son of Anath rescued Israel. He once killed 600 Philistines with an ox goad.

По́сле него́ был Самега́р, сын Ана́фов, кото́рый шестьсо́т челове́к Филисти́млян поби́л воло́вьим рожно́м; и он та́кже спас Изра́иля.
