In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God.

В нача́ле бы́ло Сло́во, и Сло́во бы́ло у Бо́га, и Сло́во бы́ло Бог.

He existed in the beginning with God.

Оно́ бы́ло в нача́ле у Бо́га.

God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him.

Всё че́рез Него́ на́чало быть, и без Него́ ничто́ не на́чало быть, что на́чало быть.

The Word gave life to everything that was created,a and his life brought light to everyone.

В Нём была́ жизнь, и жизнь была́ свет челове́ков.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.b

И свет во тьме све́тит, и тьма не объя́ла его́.

God sent a man, John the Baptist,c

Был челове́к, по́сланный от Бо́га; и́мя ему́ Иоа́нн.

to tell about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony.

Он пришёл для свиде́тельства, что́бы свиде́тельствовать о Све́те, дабы́ все уве́ровали че́рез него́.

John himself was not the light; he was simply a witness to tell about the light.

Он не́ был свет, но был по́слан, что́бы свиде́тельствовать о Све́те.

The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.

Был Свет и́стинный, Кото́рый просвеща́ет вся́кого челове́ка, приходя́щего в мир.

He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him.

В ми́ре был, и мир че́рез Него́ на́чал быть, и мир Его́ не позна́л.

He came to his own people, and even they rejected him.

Пришёл к свои́м, и свои́ Его́ не при́няли.

But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.

А тем, кото́рые при́няли Его́, ве́рующим во и́мя Его́, дал власть быть ча́дами Бо́жиими,

They are reborn — not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.

кото́рые ни от кро́ви, ни от хоте́ния пло́ти, ни от хоте́ния му́жа, но от Бо́га роди́лись.

So the Word became humand and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness.e And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.

И Сло́во ста́ло пло́тию, и обита́ло с на́ми, по́лное благода́ти и и́стины; и мы ви́дели сла́ву Его́, сла́ву, как Единоро́дного от Отца́.

John testified about him when he shouted to the crowds, “This is the one I was talking about when I said, ‘Someone is coming after me who is far greater than I am, for he existed long before me.’”

Иоа́нн свиде́тельствует о Нём и, восклица́я, говори́т: Сей был Тот, о Кото́ром я сказа́л, что Иду́щий за мно́ю стал впереди́ меня́, потому́ что был пре́жде меня́.

From his abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another.f

И от полноты́ Его́ все мы при́няли и благода́ть на благода́ть,

For the law was given through Moses, but God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ.

и́бо зако́н дан че́рез Моисе́я; благода́ть же и и́стина произошли́ че́рез Иису́са Христа́.

No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is himself God,g is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us.

Бо́га не ви́дел никто́ никогда́; Единоро́дный Сын, су́щий в не́дре О́тчем, Он яви́л.

This was John’s testimony when the Jewish leaders sent priests and Temple assistantsh from Jerusalem to ask John, “Who are you?”

И вот свиде́тельство Иоа́нна, когда́ Иуде́и присла́ли из Иерусали́ма свяще́нников и леви́тов спроси́ть его́: кто ты?

He came right out and said, “I am not the Messiah.”

Он объяви́л, и не отрёкся, и объяви́л, что я не Христо́с.

“Well then, who are you?” they asked. “Are you Elijah?” “No,” he replied. “Are you the Prophet we are expecting?”i “No.”

И спроси́ли его́: что же? ты Илия́? Он сказа́л: нет. Проро́к? Он отвеча́л: нет.

“Then who are you? We need an answer for those who sent us. What do you have to say about yourself?”

Сказа́ли ему́: кто же ты? что́бы нам дать отве́т посла́вшим нас: что ты ска́жешь о себе́ само́м?

John replied in the words of the prophet Isaiah: “I am a voice shouting in the wilderness, ‘Clear the way for the LORD’s coming!’”j

Он сказа́л: я глас вопию́щего в пусты́не: «испра́вьте путь Го́споду», как сказа́л проро́к Иса́ия.

Then the Pharisees who had been sent

А по́сланные бы́ли из фарисе́ев;

asked him, “If you aren’t the Messiah or Elijah or the Prophet, what right do you have to baptize?”

И они́ спроси́ли его́: что же ты кре́стишь, е́сли ты ни Христо́с, ни Илия́, ни проро́к?

John told them, “I baptize withk water, but right here in the crowd is someone you do not recognize.

Иоа́нн сказа́л им в отве́т: я крещу́ в воде́; но стои́т среди́ вас Не́кто, Кото́рого вы не зна́ете.

Though his ministry follows mine, I’m not even worthy to be his slave and untie the straps of his sandal.”

Он-то Иду́щий за мно́ю, но Кото́рый стал впереди́ меня́. Я недосто́ин развяза́ть реме́нь у о́буви Его́.

This encounter took place in Bethany, an area east of the Jordan River, where John was baptizing.

Э́то происходи́ло в Вифаваре́ при Иорда́не, где крести́л Иоа́нн.

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

На друго́й день ви́дит Иоа́нн иду́щего к нему́ Иису́са и говори́т: вот А́гнец Бо́жий, Кото́рый берёт на Себя́ грех ми́ра.

He is the one I was talking about when I said, ‘A man is coming after me who is far greater than I am, for he existed long before me.’

Сей есть, о Кото́ром я сказа́л: «за мно́ю идёт Муж, Кото́рый стал впереди́ меня́, потому́ что Он был пре́жде меня́».

I did not recognize him as the Messiah, but I have been baptizing with water so that he might be revealed to Israel.”

Я не знал Его́; но для того́ пришёл крести́ть в воде́, что́бы Он я́влен был Изра́илю.

Then John testified, “I saw the Holy Spirit descending like a dove from heaven and resting upon him.

И свиде́тельствовал Иоа́нн, говоря́: я ви́дел Ду́ха, сходя́щего с не́ба, как го́лубя, и пребыва́ющего на Нём.

I didn’t know he was the one, but when God sent me to baptize with water, he told me, ‘The one on whom you see the Spirit descend and rest is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’

Я не знал Его́; но Посла́вший меня́ крести́ть в воде́ сказа́л мне: «на Кого́ уви́дишь Ду́ха сходя́щего и пребыва́ющего на Нём, Тот есть крестя́щий Ду́хом Святы́м».

I saw this happen to Jesus, so I testify that he is the Chosen One of God.l”

И я ви́дел и засвиде́тельствовал, что Сей есть Сын Бо́жий.

The following day John was again standing with two of his disciples.

На друго́й день опя́ть стоя́л Иоа́нн и дво́е из ученико́в его́.

As Jesus walked by, John looked at him and declared, “Look! There is the Lamb of God!”

И, уви́дев иду́щего Иису́са, сказа́л: вот А́гнец Бо́жий.

When John’s two disciples heard this, they followed Jesus.

Услы́шав от него́ сии́ слова́, о́ба ученика́ пошли́ за Иису́сом.

Jesus looked around and saw them following. “What do you want?” he asked them. They replied, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?”

Иису́с же, обрати́вшись и уви́дев их иду́щих, говори́т им: что вам на́добно? Они́ сказа́ли Ему́: Ра́вви, — что зна́чит: «учи́тель», — где живёшь?

“Come and see,” he said. It was about four o’clock in the afternoon when they went with him to the place where he was staying, and they remained with him the rest of the day.

Говори́т им: пойди́те и уви́дите. Они́ пошли́ и уви́дели, где Он живёт; и пробы́ли у Него́ день тот. Бы́ло о́коло деся́того ча́са.

Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of these men who heard what John said and then followed Jesus.

Оди́н из двух, слы́шавших от Иоа́нна об Иису́се и после́довавших за Ним, был Андре́й, брат Си́мона Петра́.

Andrew went to find his brother, Simon, and told him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means “Christ”m).

Он пе́рвый нахо́дит бра́та своего́ Си́мона и говори́т ему́: мы нашли́ Месси́ю, что зна́чит: «Христо́с»;

Then Andrew brought Simon to meet Jesus. Looking intently at Simon, Jesus said, “Your name is Simon, son of John — but you will be called Cephas” (which means “Peter”n).

и привёл его́ к Иису́су. Иису́с же, взгляну́в на него́, сказа́л: ты — Си́мон, сын Ио́нин; ты наречёшься Ки́фа, что зна́чит: «ка́мень» (Пётр).

The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Come, follow me.”

На друго́й день Иису́с восхоте́л идти́ в Галиле́ю, и нахо́дит Фили́ппа и говори́т ему́: иди́ за Мно́ю.

Philip was from Bethsaida, Andrew and Peter’s hometown.

Фили́пп же был из Вифсаи́ды, из одного́ го́рода с Андре́ем и Петро́м.

Philip went to look for Nathanael and told him, “We have found the very person Moseso and the prophets wrote about! His name is Jesus, the son of Joseph from Nazareth.”

Фили́пп нахо́дит Нафанаи́ла и говори́т ему́: мы нашли́ Того́, о Кото́ром писа́л Моисе́й в зако́не и проро́ки, Иису́са, сы́на Ио́сифова, из Назаре́та.

“Nazareth!” exclaimed Nathanael. “Can anything good come from Nazareth?” “Come and see for yourself,” Philip replied.

Но Нафанаи́л сказа́л ему́: из Назаре́та мо́жет ли быть что до́брое? Фили́пп говори́т ему́: пойди́ и посмотри́.

As they approached, Jesus said, “Now here is a genuine son of Israel — a man of complete integrity.”

Иису́с, уви́дев иду́щего к Нему́ Нафанаи́ла, говори́т о нём: вот по́длинно Израильтя́нин, в кото́ром нет лука́вства.

“How do you know about me?” Nathanael asked. Jesus replied, “I could see you under the fig tree before Philip found you.”

Нафанаи́л говори́т Ему́: почему́ Ты зна́ешь меня́? Иису́с сказа́л ему́ в отве́т: пре́жде не́жели позва́л тебя́ Фили́пп, когда́ ты был под смоко́вницею, Я ви́дел тебя́.

Then Nathanael exclaimed, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God — the King of Israel!”

Нафанаи́л отвеча́л Ему́: Ра́вви! Ты — Сын Бо́жий, Ты — Царь Изра́илев.

Jesus asked him, “Do you believe this just because I told you I had seen you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than this.”

Иису́с сказа́л ему́ в отве́т: ты ве́ришь, потому́ что Я тебе́ сказа́л: «Я ви́дел тебя́ под смоко́вницею»; уви́дишь бо́льше сего́.

Then he said, “I tell you the truth, you will all see heaven open and the angels of God going up and down on the Son of Man, the one who is the stairway between heaven and earth.p”

И говори́т ему́: и́стинно, и́стинно говорю́ вам: отны́не бу́дете ви́деть не́бо отве́рстым и А́нгелов Бо́жиих восходя́щих и нисходя́щих к Сы́ну Челове́ческому.
