Then all the Israelites were united as one man, from Dan in the north to Beersheba in the south, including those from across the Jordan in the land of Gilead. The entire community assembled in the presence of the LORD at Mizpah.

И вы́шли все сыны́ Изра́илевы, и собра́лось всё о́бщество, как оди́н челове́к, от Да́на до Вирса́вии, и земля́ Галаа́дская, пред Го́спода в Масси́фу.

The leaders of all the people and all the tribes of Israel — 400,000 warriors armed with swords — took their positions in the assembly of the people of God.

И собра́лись нача́льники всего́ наро́да, все коле́на Изра́илевы, в собра́ние наро́да Бо́жия, четы́реста ты́сяч пе́ших, обнажа́ющих меч.

(Word soon reached the land of Benjamin that the other tribes had gone up to Mizpah.) The Israelites then asked how this terrible crime had happened.

И сыны́ Вениами́новы услы́шали, что сыны́ Изра́илевы пришли́ в Масси́фу. И сказа́ли сыны́ Изра́илевы: скажи́те, как происходи́ло э́то зло?

The Levite, the husband of the woman who had been murdered, said, “My concubine and I came to spend the night in Gibeah, a town that belongs to the people of Benjamin.

Леви́т, муж о́ной уби́той же́нщины, отвеча́л и сказа́л: я с нало́жницею мое́ю пришёл ночева́ть в Ги́ву Вениами́нову;

That night some of the leading citizens of Gibeah surrounded the house, planning to kill me, and they raped my concubine until she was dead.

и восста́ли на меня́ жи́тели Ги́вы и окружи́ли и́з-за меня́ дом но́чью; меня́ намерева́лись уби́ть, и нало́жницу мою́ заму́чили, так что она́ умерла́;

So I cut her body into twelve pieces and sent the pieces throughout the territory assigned to Israel, for these men have committed a terrible and shameful crime.

я взял нало́жницу мою́, разре́зал её и посла́л её во все о́бласти владе́ния Изра́илева, и́бо они́ сде́лали беззако́нное и срамно́е де́ло в Изра́иле;

Now then, all of you — the entire community of Israel — must decide here and now what should be done about this!”

вот, все вы, сыны́ Изра́илевы, рассмотри́те э́то де́ло и реши́те здесь.

And all the people rose to their feet in unison and declared, “None of us will return home! No, not even one of us!

И восста́л весь наро́д, как оди́н челове́к, и сказа́л: не пойдём никто́ в шатёр свой и не возврати́мся никто́ в дом свой;

Instead, this is what we will do to Gibeah; we will draw lots to decide who will attack it.

и вот что мы сде́лаем ны́не с Ги́вою: пойдём на неё по жре́бию;

One-tenth of the mena from each tribe will be chosen to supply the warriors with food, and the rest of us will take revenge on Gibeahb of Benjamin for this shameful thing they have done in Israel.”

и возьмём по десяти́ челове́к из ста от всех коле́н Изра́илевых, по сто от ты́сячи и по ты́сяче от тьмы, чтоб они́ принесли́ съестны́х припа́сов для наро́да, кото́рый пойдёт про́тив Ги́вы Вениами́новой, наказа́ть её за срамно́е де́ло, кото́рое она́ сде́лала в Изра́иле.

So all the Israelites were completely united, and they gathered together to attack the town.

И собра́лись все Израильтя́не про́тив го́рода единоду́шно, как оди́н челове́к.

The Israelites sent messengers to the tribe of Benjamin, saying, “What a terrible thing has been done among you!

И посла́ли коле́на Изра́илевы во всё коле́но Вениами́ново сказа́ть: како́е э́то гну́сное де́ло сде́лано у вас!

Give up those evil men, those troublemakers from Gibeah, so we can execute them and purge Israel of this evil.” But the people of Benjamin would not listen.

Вы́дайте развращённых о́ных люде́й, кото́рые в Ги́ве; мы умертви́м их и искорени́м зло из Изра́иля. Но сыны́ Вениами́новы не хоте́ли послу́шать го́лоса бра́тьев свои́х, сыно́в Изра́илевых;

Instead, they came from their towns and gathered at Gibeah to fight the Israelites.

а собра́лись сыны́ Вениами́новы из городо́в в Ги́ву, что́бы пойти́ войно́ю про́тив сыно́в Изра́илевых.

In all, 26,000 of their warriors armed with swords arrived in Gibeah to join the 700 elite troops who lived there.

И насчита́лось в тот день сыно́в Вениами́новых, собра́вшихся из городо́в, два́дцать шесть ты́сяч челове́к, обнажа́ющих меч; кро́ме того́, из жи́телей Ги́вы насчи́тано семьсо́т отбо́рных;

Among Benjamin’s elite troops, 700 were left-handed, and each of them could sling a rock and hit a target within a hairsbreadth without missing.

из всего́ наро́да сего́ бы́ло семьсо́т челове́к отбо́рных, кото́рые бы́ли левши́, и все сии́, броса́я из праще́й ка́мни в во́лос, не броса́ли ми́мо.

Israel had 400,000 experienced soldiers armed with swords, not counting Benjamin’s warriors.

Израильтя́н же, кро́ме сыно́в Вениами́новых, насчита́лось четы́реста ты́сяч челове́к, обнажа́ющих меч; все они́ бы́ли спосо́бны к войне́.

Before the battle the Israelites went to Bethel and asked God, “Which tribe should go first to attack the people of Benjamin?” The LORD answered, “Judah is to go first.”

И вста́ли и пошли́ в дом Бо́жий, и вопроша́ли Бо́га и сказа́ли сыны́ Изра́илевы: кто из нас пре́жде пойдёт на войну́ с сына́ми Вениами́на? И сказа́л Госпо́дь: Иу́да пойдёт впереди́.

So the Israelites left early the next morning and camped near Gibeah.

И вста́ли сыны́ Изра́илевы поутру́ и расположи́лись ста́ном по́дле Ги́вы;

Then they advanced toward Gibeah to attack the men of Benjamin.

и вы́ступили Израильтя́не на войну́ про́тив Вениами́на, и ста́ли сыны́ Изра́илевы в боево́й поря́док близ Ги́вы.

But Benjamin’s warriors, who were defending the town, came out and killed 22,000 Israelites on the battlefield that day.

И вы́шли сыны́ Вениами́новы из Ги́вы и положи́ли в тот день два́дцать две ты́сячи Израильтя́н на зе́млю.

But the Israelites encouraged each other and took their positions again at the same place they had fought the previous day.

Но наро́д Изра́ильский ободри́лся, и опя́ть ста́ли в боево́й поря́док на том ме́сте, где стоя́ли в пре́жний день.

For they had gone up to Bethel and wept in the presence of the LORD until evening. They had asked the LORD, “Should we fight against our relatives from Benjamin again?” And the LORD had said, “Go out and fight against them.”

И пошли́ сыны́ Изра́илевы, и пла́кали пред Го́сподом до ве́чера, и вопроша́ли Го́спода: вступа́ть ли мне ещё в сраже́ние с сына́ми Вениами́на, бра́та моего́? Госпо́дь сказа́л: иди́те про́тив него́.

So the next day they went out again to fight against the men of Benjamin,

И подступи́ли сыны́ Изра́илевы к сына́м Вениами́на во второ́й день.

but the men of Benjamin killed another 18,000 Israelites, all of whom were experienced with the sword.

Вениами́н вы́шел про́тив них из Ги́вы во второ́й день, и ещё положи́ли на зе́млю из сыно́в Изра́илевых восемна́дцать ты́сяч челове́к, обнажа́ющих меч.

Then all the Israelites went up to Bethel and wept in the presence of the LORD and fasted until evening. They also brought burnt offerings and peace offerings to the LORD.

Тогда́ все сыны́ Изра́илевы и весь наро́д пошли́ и пришли́ в дом Бо́жий и, си́дя там, пла́кали пред Го́сподом, и пости́лись в тот день до ве́чера, и вознесли́ всесожже́ния и ми́рные жертвы пред Го́сподом.

The Israelites went up seeking direction from the LORD. (In those days the Ark of the Covenant of God was in Bethel,

И вопроша́ли сыны́ Изра́илевы Го́спода (в то вре́мя ковче́г заве́та Бо́жия находи́лся там,

and Phinehas son of Eleazar and grandson of Aaron was the priest.) The Israelites asked the LORD, “Should we fight against our relatives from Benjamin again, or should we stop?” The LORD said, “Go! Tomorrow I will hand them over to you.”

и Финее́с, сын Елеаза́ра, сы́на Ааро́нова, предстоя́л пред ним): выходи́ть ли мне ещё на сраже́ние с сына́ми Вениами́на, бра́та моего́, и́ли нет? Госпо́дь сказа́л: иди́те; Я за́втра пре́дам его́ в ру́ки ва́ши.

So the Israelites set an ambush all around Gibeah.

И поста́вил Изра́иль заса́ду вокру́г Ги́вы.

They went out on the third day and took their positions at the same place as before.

И пошли́ сыны́ Изра́илевы на сыно́в Вениами́на в тре́тий день и ста́ли в боево́й поря́док пред Ги́вою, как пре́жде.

When the men of Benjamin came out to attack, they were drawn away from the town. And as they had done before, they began to kill the Israelites. About thirty Israelites died in the open fields and along the roads, one leading to Bethel and the other leading back to Gibeah.

Сыны́ Вениами́новы вы́ступили про́тив наро́да и отдали́лись от го́рода, и на́чали, как пре́жде, убива́ть из наро́да на доро́гах, из кото́рых одна́ идёт к Вефи́лю, а друга́я к Ги́ве по́лем, и уби́ли до тридцати́ челове́к из Израильтя́н.

Then the warriors of Benjamin shouted, “We’re defeating them as we did before!” But the Israelites had planned in advance to run away so that the men of Benjamin would chase them along the roads and be drawn away from the town.

И сказа́ли сыны́ Вениами́новы: они́ па́дают пред на́ми, как и пре́жде. А сыны́ Изра́илевы сказа́ли: побежи́м от них и отвлечём их от го́рода на доро́ги.

When the main group of Israelite warriors reached Baal-tamar, they turned and took up their positions. Meanwhile, the Israelites hiding in ambush to the westc of Gibeah jumped up to fight.

И все Израильтя́не вста́ли с своего́ ме́ста и вы́строились в Ваа́л-Фама́ре. И заса́да Изра́илева устреми́лась из своего́ ме́ста, с за́падной стороны́ Ги́вы.

There were 10,000 elite Israelite troops who advanced against Gibeah. The fighting was so heavy that Benjamin didn’t realize the impending disaster.

И пришли́ пред Ги́ву де́сять ты́сяч челове́к отбо́рных из всего́ Изра́иля, и начало́сь жесто́кое сраже́ние; но сыны́ Вениами́на не зна́ли, что предстои́т им беда́.

So the LORD helped Israel defeat Benjamin, and that day the Israelites killed 25,100 of Benjamin’s warriors, all of whom were experienced swordsmen.

И порази́л Госпо́дь Вениами́на пред Израильтя́нами, и положи́ли в тот день Израильтя́не из сыно́в Вениами́на два́дцать пять ты́сяч сто челове́к, обнажа́вших меч.

Then the men of Benjamin saw that they were beaten. The Israelites had retreated from Benjamin’s warriors in order to give those hiding in ambush more room to maneuver against Gibeah.

Когда́ сыны́ Вениами́на уви́дели, что они́ поражены́, тогда́ Израильтя́не уступи́ли ме́сто сына́м Вениами́на, и́бо наде́ялись на заса́ду, кото́рую они́ поста́вили близ Ги́вы.

Then those who were hiding rushed in from all sides and killed everyone in the town.

Заса́да же поспеши́ла и устреми́лась к Ги́ве, и вступи́ла и порази́ла весь го́род мечо́м.

They had arranged to send up a large cloud of smoke from the town as a signal.

Израильтя́не поста́вили с заса́дою усло́вленным зна́ком к нападе́нию поднима́ющийся дым из го́рода.

When the Israelites saw the smoke, they turned and attacked Benjamin’s warriors. By that time Benjamin’s warriors had killed about thirty Israelites, and they shouted, “We’re defeating them as we did in the first battle!”

Ита́к, когда́ Израильтя́не отступи́ли с ме́ста сраже́ния, и Вениами́н на́чал поража́ть и пове́рг Израильтя́н до тридцати́ челове́к и говори́л: «опя́ть па́дают они́ пред на́ми, как и в пре́жние сраже́ния»,

But when the warriors of Benjamin looked behind them and saw the smoke rising into the sky from every part of the town,

тогда́ на́чал поднима́ться из го́рода дым столбо́м. Вениами́н огляну́лся наза́д, и вот, дым от всего́ го́рода восхо́дит к не́бу.

the men of Israel turned and attacked. At this point the men of Benjamin became terrified, because they realized disaster was close at hand.

Израильтя́не вороти́лись, а Вениами́н оробе́л, и́бо уви́дел, что пости́гла его́ беда́.

So they turned around and fled before the Israelites toward the wilderness. But they couldn’t escape the battle, and the people who came out of the nearby towns were also killed.d

И побежа́ли они́ от Израильтя́н по доро́ге к пусты́не; но се́ча пресле́довала их, и выходи́вшие из городо́в побива́ли их там;

The Israelites surrounded the men of Benjamin and chased them relentlessly, finally overtaking them east of Gibeah.e

окружи́ли Вениами́на, и пресле́довали его́ до Мену́хи и поража́ли до са́мой восто́чной стороны́ Ги́вы.

That day 18,000 of Benjamin’s strongest warriors died in battle.

И па́ло из сыно́в Вениами́на восемна́дцать ты́сяч челове́к, люде́й си́льных.

The survivors fled into the wilderness toward the rock of Rimmon, but Israel killed 5,000 of them along the road. They continued the chase until they had killed another 2,000 near Gidom.

Оста́вшиеся обороти́лись и побежа́ли к пусты́не, к скале́ Риммо́ну, и поби́ли ещё Израильтя́не на доро́гах пять ты́сяч челове́к; и гна́лись за ни́ми до Гидо́ма и ещё уби́ли из них две ты́сячи челове́к.

So that day the tribe of Benjamin lost 25,000 strong warriors armed with swords,

Всех же сыно́в Вениами́новых, па́вших в тот день, бы́ло два́дцать пять ты́сяч челове́к, обнажа́вших меч, и все они́ бы́ли мужи́ си́льные.

leaving only 600 men who escaped to the rock of Rimmon, where they lived for four months.

И обрати́лись оста́вшиеся и убежа́ли в пусты́ню, к скале́ Риммо́ну, шестьсо́т челове́к, и остава́лись там в ка́менной горе́ Риммо́не четы́ре ме́сяца.

And the Israelites returned and slaughtered every living thing in all the towns — the people, the livestock, and everything they found. They also burned down all the towns they came to.

Израильтя́не же опя́ть пошли́ к сына́м Вениами́новым и порази́ли их мечо́м, и люде́й в го́роде, и скот, и всё, что ни встреча́лось, и все находи́вшиеся на пути́ города́ сожгли́ огнём.
