Павел, раб Божий и апостол Иисуса Христа ради избранников Божьих, ради того, чтобы они верили, знали истину и жили благочестиво

Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ to further the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness —

С мыслью о вечной жизни, обещанной непритворным Богом прежде веков и времен

in the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time,

И в свое время явленной от Него в слове проповеди, которая доверена мне по повелению Бога Спасителя нашего —

and which now at his appointed season he has brought to light through the preaching entrusted to me by the command of God our Savior,

Титу, истинному чаду моему по общей вере: благодать, мир от Бога Отца и Христа Иисуса, Спасителя нашего!

To Titus, my true son in our common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.

Я для того оставил тебя на Крите, чтобы ты завершил начатое дело и поставил во всех городах пресвитеров по моему указанию:

The reason I left you in Crete was that you might put in order what was left unfinished and appointa elders in every town, as I directed you.

Если ставить, то безупречного, единожды женатого, детей взрастившего в вере, исключающей разгульный образ жизни и непослушание.

An elder must be blameless, faithful to his wife, a man whose children believeb and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient.

Епископу как Божьему распорядителю не пристало быть небезупречным: норовистым, вспыльчивым, склонным к вину, рукоприкладству, стяжанию.

Since an overseer manages God’s household, he must be blameless — not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain.

А надо ему быть гостеприимным, склонным ко всему доброму, во всем соблюдающим меру, правду, святость, порядок,

Rather, he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined.

Верность подлинному слову учения, чтобы умел и здравым рассуждением воодушевить, и прекословие пресечь.

He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.

Много есть неуемных пустословов и обманщиков, особенно среди обрезанных.

For there are many rebellious people, full of meaningless talk and deception, especially those of the circumcision group.

Их следует осадить: они растлевают целые дома, внушая из подлой корысти непотребное.

They must be silenced, because they are disrupting whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach — and that for the sake of dishonest gain.

Один из них, их собственный пророк, сам сказал: «Критяне — извечные лжецы, гнусные звери, ленивцы ненасытные».

One of Crete’s own prophets has said it: “Cretans are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons.”c

Замечание верное. Поэтому не давай им спуску, чтобы в вере были небестолковы,

This saying is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith

Выбросили из головы иудейские выдумки и отказались жить по указке людей, расставшихся с истиной.

and will pay no attention to Jewish myths or to the merely human commands of those who reject the truth.

Для чистых все чисто. Но для отмеченных скверной и неверием чистого ничего нет. Осквернены и ум их, и совесть.

To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted.

Они толкуют о том, что знают Бога, но на деле Его отвергают. Сами же пакостны, мятежны и ни к какому доброму делу не годятся.

They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.
