Отрок Самуил служил ГОСПОДУ при священнике Илии. Слово ГОСПОДНЕ было редким в те дни, видения — нечастыми.

Now the boy Samuel ministered to the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was rare in those days; there was no widespread revelation.

И вот однажды, когда Илий уже лежал в постели (глаза его помутнели, и он уже ничего не видел),

And it came to pass at that time, while Eli was lying down in his place, and when his eyes had begun to grow so dim that he could not see,

и светильник Божий еще не погас, а Самуил лег спать в Святилище1 ГОСПОДНЕМ, там, где располагался ковчег Божий, —

and before the lamp of God went out in the [a]tabernacle of the Lord where the ark of God was, and while Samuel was lying down,

воззвал ГОСПОДЬ к Самуилу, и тот ответил: «Я здесь».

that the Lord called Samuel. And he answered, “Here I am!”

Он побежал к Илию и сказал: «Я пришел, ты ведь звал меня». Но тот ответил: «Нет, не звал, ступай, ложись». Самуил ушел и лег.

So he ran to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” And he said, “I did not call; lie down again.” And he went and lay down.

И снова позвал его ГОСПОДЬ: «Самуил!» Встал Самуил, пошел к Илию и сказал: «Я пришел, ты же звал меня!» Но тот ответил: «Нет, не звал, сын мой, ступай, ложись».

Then the Lord called yet again, “Samuel!” So Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” He answered, “I did not call, my son; lie down again.”

Ведь Самуил еще не знал голоса ГОСПОДА, не открывалось ему прежде слово ГОСПОДНЕ.

(Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, nor was the word of the Lord yet revealed to him.)

И снова, в третий раз воззвал ГОСПОДЬ к Самуилу, тот встал, пошел к Илию и сказал: «Я здесь, ты же звал меня!» Тогда понял Илий, что это ГОСПОДЬ зовет отрока.

And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. So he arose and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you did call me.” Then Eli perceived that the Lord had called the boy.

Илий сказал Самуилу: «Ступай, ложись и, когда позовут тебя, отвечай: „Говори, ГОСПОДИ, слушает слуга Твой!“» Ушел Самуил и снова лег в постель.

Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down; and it shall be, if He calls you, that you must say, ‘Speak, Lord, for Your servant hears.’ ” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

Явился тогда ГОСПОДЬ, пришел и, как прежде, воззвал: «Самуил, Самуил!» А Самуил ответил: «Говори, Господи, слушает слуга Твой!»

Now the Lord came and stood and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel answered, “Speak, for Your servant hears.”

И ГОСПОДЬ сказал Самуилу: «Ныне Я сотворю в Израиле такое, что зазвенит в ушах у всякого, кто о том услышит.

Then the Lord said to Samuel: “Behold, I will do something in Israel at which both ears of everyone who hears it will tingle.

В тот день Я наведу на род Илия всё, что говорил о его роде, от начала до конца.

In that day I will perform against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from beginning to end.

Я же говорил ему, что род его будет навеки Мною осужден за грех, о котором он знал: сыновья его навлекали на себя проклятие,2 но он не препятствовал им.

For I have told him that I will judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knows, because his sons made themselves vile, and he did not [b]restrain them.

И потому Я поклялся роду Илия, что вовек его роду не загладить вины ни жертвоприношениями, ни дарами».

And therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli’s house shall not be atoned for by sacrifice or offering forever.”

Самуил оставался в постели до утра, потом открыл двери Святилища ГОСПОДНЕГО, но рассказать Илию о видении боялся.

So Samuel lay down until [c]morning, and opened the doors of the house of the Lord. And Samuel was afraid to tell Eli the vision.

Илий позвал Самуила: «Самуил, сын мой!» И он отозвался: «Я здесь!»

Then Eli called Samuel and said, “Samuel, my son!” He answered, “Here I am.”

А Илий спросил: «Так какое слово было тебе возвещено? Прошу, не скрывай от меня! Пусть так-то поступит с тобой БОГ и еще добавит, если скроешь от меня хоть одно возвещенное тебе слово».

And he said, “What is the word that the Lord spoke to you? Please do not hide it from me. God do so to you, and more also, if you hide anything from me of all the things that He said to you.”

И тогда Самуил пересказал ему все эти слова, ничего не скрывая. На это Илий сказал: «Он — ГОСПОДЬ, что пожелает Он, то пусть и сотворит».

Then Samuel told him everything, and hid nothing from him. And he said, “It is the Lord. Let Him do what seems good to Him.”

А Самуил подрастал, и ГОСПОДЬ был с ним, и ни одно сказанное Им слово не пропало впустую.

So Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him and let none of his words [d]fall to the ground.

И весь Израиль от Дана до Беэр-Шевы узнал, что Самуил — воистину пророк ГОСПОДЕНЬ.

And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba knew that Samuel had been [e]established as a prophet of the Lord.

ГОСПОДЬ продолжал являться в Силоме: ГОСПОДЬ в Силоме открывался Самуилу в слове ГОСПОДНЕМ.

Then the Lord appeared again in Shiloh. For the Lord revealed Himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the Lord.
