Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother,
 
Paulus, Apostel[1] Christi Jesu durch Gottes Willenⓐ, und Timotheusⓑ, der Bruderⓒ,

To God’s holy people in Colossae, the faithful brothers and sistersa in Christ: Grace and peace to you from God our Father.b
 
den heiligen und gläubigen[2] Brüdern in Christusⓓ zu Kolossä: Gnade euch und Friede von Gott, unserem Vaterⓔ!

We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you,
 
Wir danken Gott, dem Vater unseres Herrn Jesus Christus, allezeit, wenn wir für euch betenⓕ,

because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all God’s people —
 
da wir von eurem Glauben in[3] Christus Jesus gehört haben und von der Liebe, die ihr zu allen Heiligen habtⓖ,

the faith and love that spring from the hope stored up for you in heaven and about which you have already heard in the true message of the gospel
 
wegen der Hoffnungⓗ, die für euch in den Himmeln aufbewahrt istⓘ. Von ihr habt ihr vorher ‹schon› gehört im Wort der Wahrheit des Evangeliumsⓙ,

that has come to you. In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world — just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God’s grace.
 
das zu euch gekommen ist, wie es auch in der ganzen Weltⓚ ist und Frucht bringtⓛ und wächstⓜ, wie auch unter[4] euchⓝ von dem Tag an, da ihr es gehört und die Gnade Gottes in Wahrheit erkannt[5] habt.

You learned it from Epaphras, our dear fellow servant,c who is a faithful minister of Christ on ourd behalf,
 
So habt ihr es gelernt von Epaphrasⓞ, unserem geliebten Mitknecht[6], der ein treuer Diener[7] des Christus für euch ist

and who also told us of your love in the Spirit.
 
und uns auch eure Liebe im Geist kundgetan hat.

For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives,e
 
Deshalb hören auch wir nicht auf, von dem Tag an, da wir es gehört haben, für euch zu beten und zu bittenⓟ, dass ihr mit der Erkenntnis seines Willensⓠ erfüllt werdet in aller Weisheit und geistlichem Verständnisⓡ,

so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,
 
um des Herrn würdig zu wandelnⓢ zu allem Wohlgefallenⓣ, fruchtbringend in jedem guten Werkⓤ und wachsend durch die[8] Erkenntnis Gottesⓥ,

being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience,
 
gekräftigt mit aller Kraftⓦ nach der Macht seiner Herrlichkeit, zu allem Ausharrenⓧ und ‹aller› Langmut, mit Freuden

and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified youf to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.
 
dem Vater danksagend[9], der euch fähig[10] gemacht hat zum Anteil am Erbeⓨ der Heiligen im Licht;
13
For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves,
 
er hat uns gerettet[11] aus der Macht[12] der Finsternisⓩ und versetzt in das Reich[13] des Sohnes seiner Liebeⓐ.
14
in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
 
In ihm haben wir die Erlösung[14]ⓑ, die Vergebung der Sündenⓒ.

The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
 
Er ist das Bild des unsichtbaren Gottesⓓ, der Erstgeboreneⓔ aller Schöpfungⓕ.

For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.
 
Denn in ihm[15] ist alles in den Himmeln und auf der Erde geschaffen wordenⓖ, das Sichtbare und das Unsichtbare, es seien Throne oder Herrschaften oder Gewalten oder Mächte: Alles ist durch ihn und zu ihm hin geschaffenⓗ;

He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
 
und er ist vor allemⓘ, und alles besteht durch ihnⓙ.
18
And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.
 
Und er ist das Haupt des Leibesⓚ, der Gemeinde[16]ⓛ. Er ist der Anfang, der Erstgeboreneⓜ aus den Totenⓝ, damit er in allem den Vorrang habe;

For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him,
 
denn es gefiel der ganzen Fülle[17], in ihm zu wohnenⓞ
20
and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
 
und durch ihn alles mit sich[18] zu versöhnen — indem[19] er Frieden gemacht hat durch das Blut seines Kreuzesⓟ — durch ihn, sei es, was auf der Erde oder was in den Himmeln istⓠ.

Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because ofg your evil behavior.
 
Und euch, die ihr einst entfremdetⓡ und Feinde wart nach der Gesinnung in den bösen Werkenⓢ,
22
But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation —
 
hat er[20] aber nun versöhnt in dem Leib seines Fleischesⓣ durch den Todⓤ, um euch heilig und tadellos und unsträflich vor sich hinzustellenⓥ,

if you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.
 
sofern ihr im Glauben gegründet und fest bleibt und euch nicht abbringen lasst von der Hoffnung des Evangeliumsⓦ, das ihr gehört habt, das in der ganzen Schöpfungⓧ unter dem Himmelⓨ gepredigt worden ist, dessen Diener ich, Paulus, geworden bin.

Now I rejoice in what I am suffering for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church.
 
Jetzt freue ich mich in den Leiden für euchⓩ und ergänze in meinem Fleisch, was noch aussteht von den Bedrängnissen des Christus für seinen Leib, das ist die Gemeinde[21]ⓐ.

I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness —
 
Ihr Dienerⓑ bin ich geworden nach der Verwaltung[22] Gottes, die mir im Blick auf euch gegeben istⓒ, um das Wort Gottes zu vollenden[23],

the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people.
 
das Geheimnis, das von den Weltzeiten[24] und von den Geschlechtern her verborgen warⓓ, jetzt aber seinen Heiligen offenbart worden istⓔ.
27
To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
 
Ihnen wollte Gott zu erkennen geben, was der Reichtum der Herrlichkeitⓕ dieses Geheimnisses unter den Nationen sei, und das ist: Christus in euchⓖ, die Hoffnungⓗ der Herrlichkeit.

He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ.
 
Ihn verkündigen wir, indem wir jeden Menschen ermahnen und jeden Menschen in aller Weisheit lehrenⓘ, um jeden Menschen vollkommen in Christus darzustellen[25]ⓙ;

To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.
 
worum ich mich auch bemühe und kämpfend ringeⓚ gemäß seiner Wirksamkeit, die in mir wirkt in Kraft.
