So all the congregation lifted up their voices and cried, and the people wept that night.

И подняло все общество вопль, и плакал народ всю ту ночь;

And all the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron, and the whole congregation said to them, “If only we had died in the land of Egypt! Or if only we had died in this wilderness!

и роптали на Моисея и Аарона все сыны Израилевы, и все общество сказало им: «О, если бы мы умерли в земле египетской или умерли бы в пустыне этой!

Why has the Lord brought us to this land to [a]fall by the sword, that our wives and children should become victims? Would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?”

И для чего Господь ведет нас в землю эту, чтобы мы пали от меча? Жены наши и дети наши достанутся в добычу врагам; не лучше ли нам возвратиться в Египет?»

So they said to one another, “Let us select a leader and return to Egypt.”

И сказали друг другу: «Поставим себе начальника и возвратимся в Египет».

Then Moses and Aaron [b]fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.

И пали Моисей и Аарон на лица свои пред всем собранием общества сынов Израилевых.

But Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had spied out the land, tore their clothes;

И Иисус, сын Навина, и Халев, сын Иефоннии, из осматривавших землю, разодрали одежды свои

and they spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying: “The land we passed through to spy out is an exceedingly good land.

и сказали всему обществу сынов Израилевых: «Земля, которую мы проходили для осмотра, очень-очень хороша;

If the Lord delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us, ‘a land which flows with milk and honey.’

если Господь милостив к нам, то введет нас в землю эту и даст нам ее — эту землю, в которой течет молоко и мед;

Only do not rebel against the Lord, nor fear the people of the land, for they[c] are our bread; their protection has departed from them, and the Lord is with us. Do not fear them.”

только против Господа не восставайте и не бойтесь народа земли этой, ибо он достанется нам на съедение: защиты у них не стало, а с нами Господь; не бойтесь их».

And all the congregation said to stone them with stones. Now the glory of the Lord appeared in the tabernacle of meeting before all the children of Israel.

И сказало все общество: «Побить их камнями!» Но слава Господа явилась в облаке в скинии собрания всем сынам Израилевым.

Then the Lord said to Moses: “How long will these people reject[d] Me? And how long will they not believe Me, with all the [e]signs which I have performed among them?

И сказал Господь Моисею: «Доколе будет раздражать Меня народ этот? И доколе будет он не верить Мне при всех знамениях, которые делал Я среди него?

I will strike them with the pestilence and disinherit them, and I will make of you a nation greater and mightier than they.”

Поражу его язвой и истреблю его и произведу от тебя народ многочисленнее и сильнее его».

And Moses said to the Lord: “Then the Egyptians will hear it, for by Your might You brought these people up from among them,

Но Моисей сказал Господу: «Услышат египтяне, из среды которых Ты силой Твоей вывел народ этот,

and they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land. They have heard that You, Lord, are among these people; that You, Lord, are seen face to face and Your cloud stands above them, and You go before them in a pillar of cloud by day and in a pillar of fire by night.

и скажут жителям земли этой, которые слышали, что Ты, Господь, находишься среди народа этого и что Ты, Господь, даешь им видеть Себя лицом к лицу, и облако Твое стоит над ними, и Ты идешь пред ними днем в столбе облачном, а ночью в столбе огненном;

Now if You kill these people as one man, then the nations which have heard of Your fame will speak, saying,

и если Ты истребишь народ этот, как одного человека, то народы, которые слышали славу Твою, скажут:

‘Because the Lord was not able to bring this people to the land which He swore to give them, therefore He killed them in the wilderness.’

„Господь не мог ввести народ этот в землю, которую Он с клятвой обещал ему, а потому и погубил его в пустыне“.

And now, I pray, let the power of my Lord be great, just as You have spoken, saying,

Итак, да возвеличится сила Господа, как Ты сказал, говоря:

‘The Lord is longsuffering and abundant in mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression; but He by no means clears the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation.’

„Господь долготерпелив и многомилостив, прощающий беззакония и преступления и не оставляющий без наказания, но наказывающий беззаконие отцов в детях до третьего и четвертого рода“.

Pardon the iniquity of this people, I pray, according to the greatness of Your mercy, just as You have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.”

Прости грех народу этому по великой милости Твоей, как Ты прощал народ этот от Египта доселе».

Then the Lord said: “I have pardoned, according to your word;

И сказал Господь Моисею: «Прощаю по слову твоему;

but truly, as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord —

но жив Я, и славы Господней полна вся земля.

because all these men who have seen My glory and the signs which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have put Me to the test now these ten times, and have not heeded My voice,

Все, которые видели славу Мою и знамения Мои, сделанные Мною в Египте и в пустыне, и искушали Меня уже десять раз, и не слушали гласа Моего,

they certainly shall not see the land of which I [f]swore to their fathers, nor shall any of those who rejected Me see it.

не увидят земли, которую Я с клятвой обещал отцам их; все, раздражавшие Меня, не увидят ее.

But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it.

Но раба Моего Халева, за то что в нем был иной дух и он совершенно повиновался Мне, введу в землю, в которую он ходил, и семя его наследует ее.

Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwell in the valley; tomorrow turn and move out into the wilderness by the Way of the Red Sea.”

Амаликитяне и хананеи живут в долине; завтра обратитесь и идите в пустыню к Чермному морю».

And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,

И сказал Господь Моисею и Аарону, говоря:

“How long shall I bear with this evil congregation who complain against Me? I have heard the complaints which the children of Israel make against Me.

«Доколе злому обществу этому роптать на Меня? Ропот сынов Израилевых, которым они ропщут на Меня, Я слышу.

Say to them, ‘As I live,’ says the Lord, ‘just as you have spoken in My hearing, so I will do to you:

Скажи им: „Живу Я, говорит Господь; как говорили вы вслух Мне, так и сделаю вам;

The carcasses of you who have complained against Me shall fall in this wilderness, all of you who were numbered, according to your entire number, from twenty years old and above.

в пустыне этой падут тела ваши, и все вы исчисленные, сколько вас числом, от двадцати лет и выше, которые роптали на Меня,

Except for Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun, you shall by no means enter the land which I [g]swore I would make you dwell in.

не войдете в землю, на которой Я, подъемля руку Мою, клялся поселить вас, кроме Халева, сына Иефоннии, и Иисуса, сына Навина.

But your little ones, whom you said would be victims, I will bring in, and they shall [h]know the land which you have despised.

Детей ваших, о которых вы говорили, что они достанутся в добычу врагам, Я введу туда, и они узнают землю, которую вы презрели,

But as for you, your[i] carcasses shall fall in this wilderness.

а ваши трупы падут в пустыне этой.

And your sons shall be [j]shepherds in the wilderness forty years, and bear the brunt of your infidelity, until your carcasses are consumed in the wilderness.

А сыновья ваши будут кочевать в пустыне сорок лет и будут нести наказание за блудодейство ваше, доколе не погибнут все тела ваши в пустыне;

According to the number of the days in which you spied out the land, forty days, for each day you shall bear your [k]guilt one year, namely forty years, and you shall know My [l]rejection.

по числу сорока дней, в которые вы осматривали землю, вы понесете наказание за грехи ваши сорок лет, год за день, дабы вы познали, что значит быть оставленным Мною.

I the Lord have spoken this. I will surely do so to all this evil congregation who are gathered together against Me. In this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.’ ”

Я, Господь, говорю и так и сделаю со всем этим злым обществом, восставшим против Меня: в пустыне этой все они погибнут и перемрут“».

Now the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land, who returned and made all the congregation complain against him by bringing a bad report of the land,

И те, которых посылал Моисей для осмотра земли и которые, возвратившись, возмутили против него все это общество, распуская худую молву о земле,

those very men who brought the evil report about the land, died by the plague before the Lord.

эти, распустившие худую молву о земле, умерли, быв поражены пред Господом.

But Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh remained alive, of the men who went to spy out the land.

Только Иисус, сын Навина, и Халев, сын Иефоннии, остались живы из тех мужей, которые ходили осматривать землю.

Then Moses told these words to all the children of Israel, and the people mourned greatly.

И сказал Моисей слова эти перед всеми сынами Израилевыми, и народ сильно опечалился.

And they rose early in the morning and went up to the top of the mountain, saying, “Here we are, and we will go up to the place which the Lord has promised, for we have sinned!”

И, встав рано поутру, пошли на вершину горы, говоря: «Вот, мы пойдем на то место, о котором сказал Господь, ибо мы согрешили».

And Moses said, “Now why do you [m]transgress the command of the Lord? For this will not succeed.

Моисей сказал: «Почему вы преступаете повеление Господне? Это будет безуспешно;

Do not go up, lest you be defeated by your enemies, for the Lord is not among you.

не ходите, ибо нет среди вас Господа, чтобы не поразили вас враги ваши;

For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and you shall fall by the sword; because you have turned away from the Lord, the Lord will not be with you.”

ибо амаликитяне и хананеи там перед вами, и вы падете от меча, потому что вы отступили от Господа, и не будет с вами Господа».

But they presumed to go up to the mountaintop. Nevertheless, neither the ark of the covenant of the Lord nor Moses departed from the camp.

Но они дерзнули подняться на вершину горы; ковчег же завета Господнего и Моисей не оставляли стана.

Then the Amalekites and the Canaanites who dwelt in that mountain came down and attacked them, and drove them back as far as Hormah.

И сошли амаликитяне и хананеи, живущие на горе той, и разбили их, и гнали их до Хормы, и возвратились в стан.
