The Elder, To the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth:

Старець — улюбленому Гаєві, якого я насправді люблю.

Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.

Любий, молюся, щоб тобі добре велося в усьому і щоб ти був здоровий, як добре ведеться твоїй душі.

For I rejoiced greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in the truth.

Бо я дуже зрадів, коли прийшли брати й засвідчили про твою правду: як ти живеш у правді.

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in [a]truth.

Більшої радості не маю від тієї, аби чути, що мої діти живуть у правді.

Beloved, you do faithfully whatever you do for the brethren [b]and for strangers,

Любий, ти правильно робиш, що працюєш для братів і, зокрема, для чужинців.

who have borne witness of your love before the church. If you send them forward on their journey in a manner worthy of God, you will do well,

Вони засвідчили твою любов перед Церквою. Добре зробиш, коли їх випровадиш так, як Богові до вподоби.

because they went forth for His name’s sake, taking nothing from the Gentiles.

Адже вони вийшли на діло задля [Його] Імені, нічого не беручи від язичників.

We therefore ought to receive[c] such, that we may become fellow workers for the truth.

Тому ми повинні таких приймати, щоби стати співпрацівниками істини.

I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to have the preeminence among them, does not receive us.

Я написав до Церкви, але Діотреф, який любить бути першим у них, нас не приймає.

Therefore, if I come, I will call to mind his deeds which he does, prating[d] against us with malicious words. And not content with that, he himself does not receive the brethren, and forbids those who wish to, putting them out of the church.

Тому, коли прийду, згадаю про його вчинки, які він робить, докоряючи нам лихими словами. Та й цим не задовольняється, але і сам братів не приймає, і тим, хто хоче приймати, забороняє та викидає з Церкви.

Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. He who does good is of God, [e]but he who does evil has not seen God.

Любий, не наслідуй зло, але добро. Хто робить добро, той від Бога, а хто чинить зло, не бачив Бога.

Demetrius has a good testimony from all, and from the truth itself. And we also [f]bear witness, and you know that our testimony is true.

Про Димитрія свідчать усі, і сама правда. І ми свідчимо, а ви знаєте, що наше свідчення правдиве.

I had many things to write, but I do not wish to write to you with pen and ink;

Багато мав я тобі написати, але не хочу чорнилом і пером.

but I hope to see you shortly, and we shall speak face to face. Peace to you. Our friends greet you. Greet the friends by name.

Сподіваюся невдовзі побачити тебе й говорити з уст в уста.
