After saying farewell to the Ephesian elders, we sailed straight to the island of Cos. The next day we reached Rhodes and then went to Patara.

И҆ ѩ҆́коже бы́сть ѿвезти́сѧ на́мъ, ѿто́ргшымсѧ ѿ ни́хъ, прѧ́мѡ ше́дше прїидо́хомъ въ кѡ́нъ, въ дрѹгі́й же де́нь въ ро́досъ и҆ ѿтѹ́дѹ въ пата́рѹ:

There we boarded a ship sailing for Phoenicia.

и҆ ѡ҆брѣ́тше кора́бль преходѧ́щь въ фїнїкі́ю, возше́дше ѿвезо́хомсѧ.

We sighted the island of Cyprus, passed it on our left, and landed at the harbor of Tyre, in Syria, where the ship was to unload its cargo.

Возни́кшїй же на́мъ кѵ́пръ ѡ҆ста́вльше ѡ҆шѹ́юю, плы́хомъ въ сѷрі́ю и҆ приста́хомъ въ тѵ́рѣ, та́мѡ бо бѧ́ше кораблю̀ и҆зложи́ти бре́мѧ:

We went ashore, found the local believers,a and stayed with them a week. These believers prophesied through the Holy Spirit that Paul should not go on to Jerusalem.

и҆ ѡ҆брѣ́тше ѹ҆чн҃кѝ, пребы́хомъ тѹ̀ дні́й се́дмь: и҆̀же па́ѵлови глаго́лахѹ дх҃омъ не восходи́ти во ї҆ер҇ли́мъ.

When we returned to the ship at the end of the week, the entire congregation, including womenb and children, left the city and came down to the shore with us. There we knelt, prayed,

Є҆гда́ же бы́сть на́мъ сконча́ти дни҄, и҆зше́дше и҆до́хомъ, провожда́ющымъ на́съ всѣ҄мъ съ жена́ми и҆ дѣтьмѝ да́же до внѣ̀ гра́да: и҆ прекло́нше кѡлѣ́на при бре́зѣ помоли́хомсѧ.

and said our farewells. Then we went aboard, and they returned home.

И҆ цѣлова́вше дрѹ́гъ дрѹ́га внидо́хомъ въ кора́бль, ѻ҆ни́ же возврати́шасѧ во своѧ҄ си.

The next stop after leaving Tyre was Ptolemais, where we greeted the brothers and sistersc and stayed for one day.

Мы́ же, пла́ванїе наче́нше ѿ тѵ́ра, приста́хомъ во птолемаі́дѣ, и҆ цѣлова́вше бра́тїю, пребы́хомъ де́нь є҆ди́нъ ѹ҆ ни́хъ.

The next day we went on to Caesarea and stayed at the home of Philip the Evangelist, one of the seven men who had been chosen to distribute food.

(За҄ 45.) Во ѹ҆́трїе же и҆зше́дше па́ѵелъ и҆ и҆̀же съ ни́мъ, прїидо́хомъ въ кесарі́ю, и҆ вше́дше въ до́мъ фїлі́ппа бл҃говѣ́стника, сѹ́ща ѿ седмѝ (дїа́кѡнъ), пребы́хомъ ѹ҆ негѡ̀.

He had four unmarried daughters who had the gift of prophecy.

Сегѡ́ же бѧ́хѹ дщє́ри дѣви҄цы четы́ри прорица́ющыѧ.

Several days later a man named Agabus, who also had the gift of prophecy, arrived from Judea.

Пребыва́ющымъ же на́мъ та́мѡ дни҄ мнѡ́ги, сни́де нѣ́кто ѿ ї҆ѹде́и про҇ро́къ, и҆́менемъ а҆га́въ,

He came over, took Paul’s belt, and bound his own feet and hands with it. Then he said, “The Holy Spirit declares, ‘So shall the owner of this belt be bound by the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem and turned over to the Gentiles.’”

и҆ прише́дъ къ на́мъ и҆ взе́мъ по́ѧсъ па́ѵловъ, свѧза́въ же своѝ рѹ́цѣ и҆ но́зѣ, речѐ: та́кѡ гл҃етъ дх҃ъ ст҃ы́й: мѹ́жа, є҆гѡ́же є҆́сть по́ѧсъ се́й, та́кѡ свѧ́жѹтъ (є҆го̀) во ї҆ер҇ли́мѣ ї҆ѹде́є и҆ предадѧ́тъ въ рѹ́цѣ ѩ҆зы́кѡвъ.

When we heard this, we and the local believers all begged Paul not to go on to Jerusalem.

И҆ ѩ҆́коже слы́шахомъ сїѧ҄, молѧ́хомъ мы́ же и҆ намѣ́стнїи {та́мошнїи жи́телїе}, не восходи́ти є҆мѹ̀ во ї҆ер҇ли́мъ.

But he said, “Why all this weeping? You are breaking my heart! I am ready not only to be jailed at Jerusalem but even to die for the sake of the Lord Jesus.”

Ѿвѣща́ же па́ѵелъ и҆ речѐ: что̀ творитѐ, пла́чѹще и҆ сокрѹша́юще мѝ се́рдце; а҆́зъ бо не то́чїю свѧ́занъ бы́ти (хощѹ̀), но и҆ ѹ҆мре́ти во ї҆ер҇ли́мѣ гото́въ є҆́смь за и҆́мѧ гд҇а ї҆и҃са.

When it was clear that we couldn’t persuade him, we gave up and said, “The Lord’s will be done.”

Не повинѹ́ющѹсѧ же є҆мѹ̀, ѹ҆молча́хомъ, ре́кше: во́лѧ гд҇нѧ да бѹ́детъ.

After this we packed our things and left for Jerusalem.

По дне́хъ же си́хъ ѹ҆гото́вльшесѧ взыдо́хомъ во ї҆ер҇ли́мъ:

Some believers from Caesarea accompanied us, and they took us to the home of Mnason, a man originally from Cyprus and one of the early believers.

прїидо́ша же съ на́ми и҆ нѣ́цыи ѹ҆чн҃цы̀ ѿ кесарі́и, ведѹ́ще съ собо́ю, ѹ҆ негѡ́же бы ѡ҆бита́ти на́мъ, мна́сѡна нѣ́коего кѵ́прѧнина, дре́внѧго ѹ҆чн҃ка̀.

When we arrived, the brothers and sisters in Jerusalem welcomed us warmly.

Бы́вшымъ же на́мъ во ї҆ер҇ли́мѣ, любе́знѡ прїѧ́ша на́съ бра́тїѧ.

The next day Paul went with us to meet with James, and all the elders of the Jerusalem church were present.

На ѹ҆́трїе же вни́де па́ѵелъ съ на́ми ко ї҆а́кѡвѹ, вси́ же прїидо́ша ста́рцы.

After greeting them, Paul gave a detailed account of the things God had accomplished among the Gentiles through his ministry.

И҆ цѣлова́въ и҆̀хъ, сказа́ше по є҆ди́номѹ ко́еждо, є҆́же сотворѝ бг҃ъ во ѩ҆зы́цѣхъ слѹже́нїемъ є҆гѡ̀.

After hearing this, they praised God. And then they said, “You know, dear brother, how many thousands of Jews have also believed, and they all follow the law of Moses very seriously.

Ѻ҆ни́ же слы́шавше сла́влѧхѹ бг҃а и҆ реко́ша є҆мѹ̀: ви́диши ли, бра́те, коли́кѡ те́мъ є҆́сть ї҆ѹдє́й вѣ́ровавшихъ; и҆ всѝ ревни́телїе зако́нѹ сѹ́ть:

But the Jewish believers here in Jerusalem have been told that you are teaching all the Jews who live among the Gentiles to turn their backs on the laws of Moses. They’ve heard that you teach them not to circumcise their children or follow other Jewish customs.

ѹ҆вѣсти́шасѧ же ѡ҆ тебѣ̀, ѩ҆́кѡ ѿстѹпле́нїю ѹ҆чи́ши ѿ зако́на мѡѷсе́ова живѹ́щыѧ во ѩ҆зы́цѣхъ всѧ҄ ї҆ѹдє́и, глаго́лѧ не ѡ҆брѣ́зовати и҆̀мъ ча҄дъ свои́хъ, нижѐ во ѡ҆бы́чаехъ ѻ҆те́ческихъ ходи́ти.

What should we do? They will certainly hear that you have come.

Что̀ ѹ҆̀бо є҆́сть; Всѧ́кѡ подоба́етъ наро́дѹ сни́тисѧ: ѹ҆слы́шатъ бо, ѩ҆́кѡ прише́лъ є҆сѝ.

“Here’s what we want you to do. We have four men here who have completed their vow.

Сїѐ ѹ҆̀бо сотворѝ, є҆́же тѝ глаго́лемъ: сѹ́ть ѹ҆ на́съ мѹ́жїе четы́ри ѡ҆бѣща́вше себѐ бг҃ѹ:

Go with them to the Temple and join them in the purification ceremony, paying for them to have their heads ritually shaved. Then everyone will know that the rumors are all false and that you yourself observe the Jewish laws.

сїѧ҄ пои́мъ ѡ҆чи́стисѧ съ ни́ми и҆ и҆ждивѝ на ни́хъ, да ѡ҆стри́жѹтъ сѝ главы҄: и҆ разѹмѣ́ютъ всѝ, ѩ҆́кѡ возвѣщє́ннаѧ и҆̀мъ ѡ҆ тебѣ̀ ничто́же сѹ́ть, но пребыва́еши и҆ са́мъ зако́нъ хранѧ̀.

“As for the Gentile believers, they should do what we already told them in a letter: They should abstain from eating food offered to idols, from consuming blood or the meat of strangled animals, and from sexual immorality.”

А҆ ѡ҆ вѣ́ровавшихъ ѩ҆зы́цѣхъ мы̀ посла́хомъ, сѹди́вше ничто́же таково́е соблюда́ти и҆̀мъ, то́кмѡ храни́ти себѐ ѿ ї҆дѡложе́ртвенныхъ и҆ кро́ве, и҆ ѹ҆да́вленины и҆ блѹда̀.

So Paul went to the Temple the next day with the other men. They had already started the purification ritual, so he publicly announced the date when their vows would end and sacrifices would be offered for each of them.

(За҄ 46.) Тогда̀ па́ѵелъ пое́мь мѹ́жы ѡ҆́ны, на ѹ҆́трїе съ ни́ми ѡ҆чи́щьсѧ вни́де во свѧти́лище, возвѣща́ѧ и҆сполне́нїе дні́й ѡ҆чище́нїѧ, до́ндеже принесено̀ бы́сть за є҆ди́наго коего́ждо и҆́хъ приноше́нїе.

The seven days were almost ended when some Jews from the province of Asia saw Paul in the Temple and roused a mob against him. They grabbed him,

И҆ ѩ҆́коже хотѧ́хѹ се́дмь дні́й сконча́тисѧ, и҆̀же ѿ а҆сі́и ї҆ѹде́є, ви́дѣвше є҆го̀ во свѧти́лищи, нава́диша ве́сь наро́дъ и҆ возложи́ша на́нь рѹ́цѣ,

yelling, “Men of Israel, help us! This is the man who preaches against our people everywhere and tells everybody to disobey the Jewish laws. He speaks against the Temple — and even defiles this holy place by bringing in Gentiles.d”

вопїю́ще: мѹ́жїе ї҆и҃лстїи, помози́те: се́й є҆́сть человѣ́къ, и҆́же на лю́ди и҆ зако́нъ и҆ на мѣ́сто сїѐ всѣ́хъ всю́дѹ ѹ҆чи́тъ: є҆ще́ же и҆ є҆́ллины введѐ въ це́рковь и҆ ѡ҆сквернѝ ст҃о́е мѣ́сто сїѐ.

(For earlier that day they had seen him in the city with Trophimus, a Gentile from Ephesus,e and they assumed Paul had taken him into the Temple.)

Бѧ́хѹ бо ви́дѣли трофі́ма є҆фе́сѧнина во гра́дѣ съ ни́мъ, є҆го́же мнѧ́хѹ, ѩ҆́кѡ въ це́рковь вве́лъ є҆́сть па́ѵелъ.

The whole city was rocked by these accusations, and a great riot followed. Paul was grabbed and dragged out of the Temple, and immediately the gates were closed behind him.

Подви́жесѧ же гра́дъ ве́сь, и҆ бы́сть стече́нїе лю́демъ: и҆ є҆́мше па́ѵла, влеча́хѹ є҆го̀ во́нъ и҆з̾ це́ркве, и҆ а҆́бїе затвори́шасѧ двє́ри.

As they were trying to kill him, word reached the commander of the Roman regiment that all Jerusalem was in an uproar.

И҆́щѹщымъ же и҆̀мъ ѹ҆би́ти є҆го̀, взы́де вѣ́сть къ ты́сѧщникѹ спі́ры, ѩ҆́кѡ ве́сь возмѹти́сѧ ї҆ер҇ли́мъ:

He immediately called out his soldiers and officersf and ran down among the crowd. When the mob saw the commander and the troops coming, they stopped beating Paul.

ѻ҆́нъ же а҆́бїе пои́мъ во́ины и҆ со́тники, притечѐ на нѧ̀: ѻ҆ни́ же ви́дѣвше ты́сѧщника и҆ во́ины, преста́ша би́ти па́ѵла.

Then the commander arrested him and ordered him bound with two chains. He asked the crowd who he was and what he had done.

Пристѹ́пль же ты́сѧщникъ ѩ҆́тъ є҆го̀ и҆ повелѣ̀ свѧза́ти є҆го̀ вери́гома желѣ́знома двѣма̀, и҆ вопроша́ше: кто̀ ѹ҆́бѡ є҆́сть и҆ что̀ є҆́сть сотвори́лъ.

Some shouted one thing and some another. Since he couldn’t find out the truth in all the uproar and confusion, he ordered that Paul be taken to the fortress.

Дрѹзі́и же и҆́но нѣ́что вопїѧ́хѹ въ наро́дѣ: не могі́й же разѹмѣ́ти и҆звѣ́стное молвы̀ ра́ди, повелѣ̀ ѿвестѝ є҆го̀ въ по́лкъ.

As Paul reached the stairs, the mob grew so violent the soldiers had to lift him to their shoulders to protect him.

Є҆гда́ же бы́сть на степе́нехъ, прилѹчи́сѧ воздви́женѹ бы́ти є҆мѹ̀ ѿ вѡ́инъ нѹ́жды ра́ди наро́да,

And the crowd followed behind, shouting, “Kill him, kill him!”

послѣ́доваше бо мно́жество люді́й зовѹ́щихъ: возмѝ є҆го̀.

As Paul was about to be taken inside, he said to the commander, “May I have a word with you?” “Do you know Greek?” the commander asked, surprised.

Хотѧ́ же вни́ти въ по́лкъ па́ѵелъ глаго́ла ты́сѧщникѹ: а҆́ще лѣ́ть мѝ є҆́сть глаго́лати что̀ тебѣ̀; Ѻ҆́нъ же речѐ: гре́чески ѹ҆мѣ́еши ли;

“Aren’t you the Egyptian who led a rebellion some time ago and took 4,000 members of the Assassins out into the desert?”

не ты́ ли є҆сѝ є҆гѵ́птѧнинъ, пре́жде си́хъ дні́й превѣща́вый и҆ и҆зведы́й въ пѹсты́ню четы́ри ты́сѧщы мѹже́й сїкаре́й;

“No,” Paul replied, “I am a Jew and a citizen of Tarsus in Cilicia, which is an important city. Please, let me talk to these people.”

Рече́ же па́ѵелъ: а҆́зъ человѣ́къ ѹ҆́бѡ є҆́смь ї҆ѹде́анинъ, та́рсѧнинъ, сла́внагѡ гра́да въ кїлїкі́и жи́тель: молю́ же тѧ̀, повели́ ми глаго́лати къ лю́демъ.

The commander agreed, so Paul stood on the stairs and motioned to the people to be quiet. Soon a deep silence enveloped the crowd, and he addressed them in their own language, Aramaic.g

Повелѣ́вшѹ же є҆мѹ̀, па́ѵелъ стоѧ̀ на степе́нехъ помаа́въ рѹко́ю къ лю́демъ: мно́гѹ же безмо́лвїю бы́вшѹ, возгласѝ є҆вре́йскимъ ѧ҆зы́комъ, глаго́лѧ:
