Откажитесь от всякой злобы, всякого плутовства, притворства, зависти, всяких наветов.

So get rid of all evil behavior. Be done with all deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy, and all unkind speech.

У вас, новорожденных младенцев, должно быть одно желание: тяга к духовному парному молоку. От него будет вам рост и ближе спасение.

Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment,

Вы по себе знаете, что Господь добр.

now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness.

Вы, приходящие к Нему, камню живому, людьми отвергнутому, но Богом избранному, выше всего ценимому,

You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor.

Сами, как живые камни, слагаетесь в дом духовный, священство святое и через Иисуса Христа приносите дары духовные, угодные Богу.

And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests.a Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God.

Сказано в Писании: «На Сионе кладу камень краеугольный, избранный, драгоценный. Тому, кто верит в Него, не будет посрамления».

As the Scriptures say, “I am placing a cornerstone in Jerusalem,b chosen for great honor, and anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.”c

Для вас, верующих, Он — драгоценность, а для тех, кто не верит, это «Камень, который отвергли строители, стал во главу угла»

Yes, you who trust him recognize the honor God has given him.d But for those who reject him, “The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.”e

И «камень преткновения, камень-спотыка». Спотыкаются, потому что глухи к Слову. От этого их безысходность.

And, “He is the stone that makes people stumble, the rock that makes them fall.”f They stumble because they do not obey God’s word, and so they meet the fate that was planned for them.

Но вы — избранное племя, царственное священство, Божье достояние, святой народ, способный возвестить о великих деяниях Того, кто призвал вас из тьмы к бесподобному Своему свету, —

But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests,g a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

Некогда и не народ даже, а сегодня народ Божий. Некогда оставленный без помилования, а сегодня помилованный.

“Once you had no identity as a people; now you are God’s people. Once you received no mercy; now you have received God’s mercy.”h

Дорогие мои странники и пришельцы! Моя к вам великая просьба: отрешитесь от низменных интересов, коверкающих душу.

Dear friends, I warn you as “temporary residents and foreigners” to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls.

Живите среди язычников пристойно, чтобы те, кто выставляет вас сейчас в дурном свете, увидели наконец ваши добрые дела и прославили Бога в День посещения.

Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when he judges the world.i

Ради Господа оказывайте повиновение всякому полномочию, учрежденному среди людей: государю ли как державному владыке,

For the Lord’s sake, submit to all human authority — whether the king as head of state,

Или губернаторам, которым он препоручает наказание преступников и поощрение добрых людей.

or the officials he has appointed. For the king has sent them to punish those who do wrong and to honor those who do right.

Воля Божья. Ей же угодно, чтобы добрые дела заставили умолкнуть невежество бездарей.

It is God’s will that your honorable lives should silence those ignorant people who make foolish accusations against you.

Вы свободны, но не делайте свободу прикрытием зла. Вы — рабы Божьи.

For you are free, yet you are God’s slaves, so don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do evil.

Всех привечайте. Любите братство. Бога бойтесь. Отдавайте почести государю.

Respect everyone, and love the family of believers.j Fear God, and respect the king.

Рабы, не без страха повинуйтесь своим господам, и не только добрым и сердобольным, но и гневливым.

You who are slaves must submit to your masters with all respect.k Do what they tell you — not only if they are kind and reasonable, but even if they are cruel.

Есть угождение Богу в несправедливом страдании, которое терпит человек по причине помышлений о Боге.

For God is pleased when, conscious of his will, you patiently endure unjust treatment.

Что за новость терпеть побои за содеянное зло? Но если терпите страдания за добрые дела, это угодно Богу.

Of course, you get no credit for being patient if you are beaten for doing wrong. But if you suffer for doing good and endure it patiently, God is pleased with you.

А к этому вы и призваны. Христос Своим за вас страданием оставил вам пример, чтобы вы шли по Его стопам.

For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ sufferedl for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps.

«В Его жизни не было греха и в устах — обмана».

He never sinned, nor ever deceived anyone.m

Когда глумились над Ним, Он не отвечал тем же. Страдая, не угрожал. Он просто доверился Праведному Судье.

He did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threaten revenge when he suffered. He left his case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly.

Он Сам в Своем теле принес на крест наши грехи, чтобы мы, умерев для греха, жили для правды. Вы исцелились Его ранами.

He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed.

Вы, как овцы, разбрелись было по сторонам, но вернулись сегодня к Пастырю и Обороне ваших душ.

Once you were like sheep who wandered away. But now you have turned to your Shepherd, the Guardian of your souls.
