And after five days Ananias the high priest descended with the elders, and with a certain orator named Tertullus, who informed the governor against Paul.

Через пять дней туда прибыл первосвященник Анания со старейшинами и с неким оратором по имени Тертулл. Они представили наместники жалобу на Павла.

And when he was called forth, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by thee we enjoy great quietness, and that very worthy deeds are done unto this nation by thy providence,

Когда его привели, Тертулл начал обвинительную речь:— Благодаря тебе, досточтимый Феликс, мы наслаждаемся прочным миром. Ты мудро заботишься об улучшении жизни этого народа —

We accept it always, and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness.

и мы повсеместно и постоянно принимаем твою заботу с благодарностью.

Notwithstanding, that I be not further tedious unto thee, I pray thee that thou wouldest hear us of thy clemency a few words.

Не стану долго тебя утомлять, но прошу выслушать нашу краткую речь с обычной твоей благосклонностью.

For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:

Этот человек, как мы обнаружили, источник заразы, он сеет смуту среди иудеев по всему кругу земель. Он — глава секты назареев.

Who also hath gone about to profane the temple: whom we took, and would have judged according to our law.

Он и Храм пытался осквернить, тогда мы его задержали и собирались судить по нашему закону.

But the chief captain Lysias came upon us, and with great violence took him away out of our hands,

Но трибун Лисий грубой силой вырвал его из наших рук

Commanding his accusers to come unto thee: by examining of whom thyself mayest take knowledge of all these things, whereof we accuse him.

и велел его обвинителям явиться к тебе. Допросив его, ты сможешь сам узнать обо всем том, в чем мы его обвиняем.

And the Jews also assented, saying that these things were so.

Это подтвердили иудеи, сказав, что всё так и есть.

Then Paul, after that the governor had beckoned unto him to speak, answered, Forasmuch as I know that thou hast been of many years a judge unto this nation, I do the more cheerfully answer for myself:

Когда наместник подал ему знак, заговорил Павел:— Я знаю, что ты уже много лет вершишь правосудие над этим народом, и это придает мне уверенности в моей защитной речи.

Because that thou mayest understand, that there are yet but twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem for to worship.

Ты можешь проверить, что я прибыл в Иерусалим для поклонения не более двенадцати дней назад,

And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, neither raising up the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city:

и они не застали меня за спорами или подстрекательством народа ни в Храме, ни в синагогах, ни где-либо еще в городе.

Neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me.

В чем они меня сейчас обвиняют, того не могут доказать.

But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:

Но признаю перед тобой, что следую Пути, который они называют сектой, и так служу отеческому нашему Богу, веря всему, что написано в законе и у пророков.

And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.

Есть у меня надежда на Бога, которую разделяют и они сами — надежда на будущее воскресение мертвых, и праведников, и неправедных.

And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.

А потому я всячески стараюсь сохранить свою совесть незапятнанной перед Богом и перед людьми.

Now after many years I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings.

Много лет не было меня здесь, и вот я пришел, чтобы передать своему народу пожертвования и принести жертву.

Whereupon certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with multitude, nor with tumult.

Вот они и застали меня в Храме во время обряда очищения, причем там не было ни толпы, ни беспорядков.

Who ought to have been here before thee, and object, if they had ought against me.

Это были какие-то иудеи из Асии, им бы следовало явиться к тебе с обвиненнием, если бы им было, в чем меня обвинить.

Or else let these same here say, if they have found any evil doing in me, while I stood before the council,

Да пусть они сами скажут: когда я стоял перед синедрионом, какое мое преступление они раскрыли?

Except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.

Разве только одно — когда я там стоял, то громко провозгласил: «Вы сегодня меня судите за воскресение мертвых!»

And when Felix heard these things, having more perfect knowledge of that way, he deferred them, and said, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the uttermost of your matter.

Феликс (ведь он неплохо был осведомлен о Пути Иисуса) прервал на этом заседание, сказав:— Я решу ваше дело, когда прибудет трибун Лисий.

And he commanded a centurion to keep Paul, and to let him have liberty, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintance to minister or come unto him.

Он приказал центуриону стеречь Павла, но не притеснять его и не мешать его близким о нем заботиться.

And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.

Через несколько дней Феликс пришел туда со своей женой Друзиллой (она была еврейка), вызвал Павла и выслушал его рассказ о вере во Христа Иисуса.

And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.

Но когда тот стал говорить о праведности, воздержанности и будущем суде, Феликс испугался и сказал:— Теперь ступай к себе. Будет случай, я тебя еще позову.

He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul, that he might loose him: wherefore he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.

Вообще-то он надеялся получить от Павла денег, потому вызвал его довольно часто, чтобы побеседовать с ним.

But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix' room: and Felix, willing to shew the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound.

Так прошло два года, и Феликса сменил Порций Фест. При этом Феликс, стараясь угодить иудеям, оставил Павла в заключении.
