Let love be your highest goal! But you should also desire the special abilities the Spirit gives — especially the ability to prophesy.

Стремитесь к любви, ревнуйте о дарах духовных, особенно же о том, чтобы пророчествовать.

For if you have the ability to speak in tongues,a you will be talking only to God, since people won’t be able to understand you. You will be speaking by the power of the Spirit,b but it will all be mysterious.

Ибо, кто говорит языками, не людям говорит, но Богу; ибо никто не понимает: он духом говорит тайны,

But one who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them.

Тот же, кто пророчествует, людям говорит в назидание и увещание и утешение.

A person who speaks in tongues is strengthened personally, but one who speaks a word of prophecy strengthens the entire church.

Тот, кто говорит языками, себя назидает; тот, кто пророчествует, назидает церковь.

I wish you could all speak in tongues, but even more I wish you could all prophesy. For prophecy is greater than speaking in tongues, unless someone interprets what you are saying so that the whole church will be strengthened.

Я хочу, чтобы все вы говорили языками, но еще больше, чтобы вы пророчествовали: ибо тот, кто пророчествует, больше того, кто говорит языками, если только он не дает толкования, чтобы церковь получила назидание.

Dear brothers and sisters,c if I should come to you speaking in an unknown language,d how would that help you? But if I bring you a revelation or some special knowledge or prophecy or teaching, that will be helpful.

И теперь, братья, если я приду к вам, говоря языками, какую я принесу вам пользу, если не будет в моих словах или откровения, или познания, или пророчества, или наставления?

Even lifeless instruments like the flute or the harp must play the notes clearly, or no one will recognize the melody.

Но если бездушные предметы, издающие звук, будь то свирель или гусли, не дадут раздельных звуков, как распознают то, что играется на свирели или гуслях?

And if the bugler doesn’t sound a clear call, how will the soldiers know they are being called to battle?

Ведь если труба издаст неясный звук, кто будет готовиться к бою?

It’s the same for you. If you speak to people in words they don’t understand, how will they know what you are saying? You might as well be talking into empty space.

Так и вы, если не издадите языком отчетливого слова, как распознают то, что говорится? Вы будете говорить на ветер.

There are many different languages in the world, and every language has meaning.

Кто знает, сколько разных наречий в мире, и каждое из них выражает себя звуками?

But if I don’t understand a language, I will be a foreigner to someone who speaks it, and the one who speaks it will be a foreigner to me.

Итак, если я не знаю значения наречия, я для говорящего буду варваром, и говорящий будет варваром для меня.

And the same is true for you. Since you are so eager to have the special abilities the Spirit gives, seek those that will strengthen the whole church.

Так и вы, поскольку вы ревнуете о духах, для назидания церкви ищите их изобилия.

So anyone who speaks in tongues should pray also for the ability to interpret what has been said.

Поэтому говорящий языками пусть молится о толковании.

For if I pray in tongues, my spirit is praying, but I don’t understand what I am saying.

Ибо если я молюсь языками, то дух мой молится, но ум мой без плода.

Well then, what shall I do? I will pray in the spirit,e and I will also pray in words I understand. I will sing in the spirit, and I will also sing in words I understand.

Что же? Буду молиться духом, но буду молиться и умом; буду петь духом, но буду петь и умом,

For if you praise God only in the spirit, how can those who don’t understand you praise God along with you? How can they join you in giving thanks when they don’t understand what you are saying?

потому что, если ты будешь благословлять в духе, то занимающий место непосвящённого, как скажет аминь на твое благодарение, раз он не знает, что ты говоришь?

You will be giving thanks very well, but it won’t strengthen the people who hear you.

Ибо ты хорошо благодаришь, но другой не назидается.

I thank God that I speak in tongues more than any of you.

Благодарю Бога: я больше всех вас говорю языками;

But in a church meeting I would rather speak five understandable words to help others than ten thousand words in an unknown language.

но в церкви хочу пять слов сказать умом моим, чтобы и других наставить, нежели множество слов языками.

Dear brothers and sisters, don’t be childish in your understanding of these things. Be innocent as babies when it comes to evil, but be mature in understanding matters of this kind.

Братья, не будьте детьми по разуму: на злое будьте младенцами, но по разуму будьте совершенными.

It is written in the Scripturesf: “I will speak to my own people through strange languages and through the lips of foreigners. But even then, they will not listen to me,”g says the LORD.

В Законе написано: иноязычными и устами иных буду говорить народу этому, но и так не послушают Меня, говорит Господь.

So you see that speaking in tongues is a sign, not for believers, but for unbelievers. Prophecy, however, is for the benefit of believers, not unbelievers.

Таким образом языки служат знамением не для верующих, но для неверующих, пророчество же не для неверующих, но для верующих.

Even so, if unbelievers or people who don’t understand these things come into your church meeting and hear everyone speaking in an unknown language, they will think you are crazy.

Поэтому, если вся церковь сойдется вместе, и все будут говорить языками, и войдут непосвящённые или неверующие, не скажут ли они, что вы безумствуете?

But if all of you are prophesying, and unbelievers or people who don’t understand these things come into your meeting, they will be convicted of sin and judged by what you say.

Если же все пророчествуют и войдет кто неверующий или непосвящённый, то он обличается всеми, судится всеми;

As they listen, their secret thoughts will be exposed, and they will fall to their knees and worship God, declaring, “God is truly here among you.”

сокровенное сердца его обнаруживается, и так, павши ниц, он поклонится Богу и провозгласит: действительно. Бог — между вами.

Well, my brothers and sisters, let’s summarize. When you meet together, one will sing, another will teach, another will tell some special revelation God has given, one will speak in tongues, and another will interpret what is said. But everything that is done must strengthen all of you.

Что же, братья? Когда вы сходитесь, у каждого есть псалом, есть наставление, есть откровение, есть язык, есть толкование: всё да будет к назиданию.

No more than two or three should speak in tongues. They must speak one at a time, and someone must interpret what they say.

Говорит ли кто языками, — каждый раз двое или, самое большое, трое, и по очереди, и один пусть толкует.

But if no one is present who can interpret, they must be silent in your church meeting and speak in tongues to God privately.

Если же нет толкователя, молчи в церкви и говори себе и Богу.

Let two or three people prophesy, and let the others evaluate what is said.

А пророки пусть говорят двое или трое, и другие пусть судят.

But if someone is prophesying and another person receives a revelation from the Lord, the one who is speaking must stop.

Если же, пока он сидит, другому будет откровение, первый пусть молчит.

In this way, all who prophesy will have a turn to speak, one after the other, so that everyone will learn and be encouraged.

Ибо вы можете все один за другим пророчествовать, чтобы все поучались и все получали утешение.

Remember that people who prophesy are in control of their spirit and can take turns.

И духи пророков пророкам послушны;

For God is not a God of disorder but of peace, as in all the meetings of God’s holy people.h

ибо Бог не есть Бог беспорядка, но мира. Как во всех церквах у святых,

Women should be silent during the church meetings. It is not proper for them to speak. They should be submissive, just as the law says.

жены в церквах да молчат, ибо не разрешается им говорить, но пусть будут послушны, как и Закон говорит.

If they have any questions, they should ask their husbands at home, for it is improper for women to speak in church meetings.i

Если же они хотят чему научиться, пусть спрашивают дома своих мужей; ибо стыдно жене говорить в церкви.

Or do you think God’s word originated with you Corinthians? Are you the only ones to whom it was given?

Или от вас слово Божие вышло? Или до вас одних оно достигло?

If you claim to be a prophet or think you are spiritual, you should recognize that what I am saying is a command from the Lord himself.

Если кто считает себя пророком или духовным, тот пусть познаёт то, что я пишу вам: что это — Господня заповедь.

But if you do not recognize this, you yourself will not be recognized.j

Если же кто не знает, его не знает Бог.

So, my dear brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and don’t forbid speaking in tongues.

Итак, братья мои, ревнуйте о том, чтобы пророчествовать, и не препятствуйте говорить языками.

But be sure that everything is done properly and in order.

Но пусть всё происходит благообразно и в порядке.
