Let love be your highest goal! But you should also desire the special abilities the Spirit gives — especially the ability to prophesy.

Ищите любви, но добивайтесь и духовных даров, особенно пророческого дара.

For if you have the ability to speak in tongues,a you will be talking only to God, since people won’t be able to understand you. You will be speaking by the power of the Spirit,b but it will all be mysterious.

Тот, кто говорит на языке, не людям говорит, а Богу, и никто его не поймет: он в духе возвещает тайны.

But one who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them.

Но кто пророчествует, тот говорит людям, укрепляя, призывая и ободряя.

A person who speaks in tongues is strengthened personally, but one who speaks a word of prophecy strengthens the entire church.

Тот, кто говорит на языке, укрепляет только себя, а кто пророчествует, созидает общину.

I wish you could all speak in tongues, but even more I wish you could all prophesy. For prophecy is greater than speaking in tongues, unless someone interprets what you are saying so that the whole church will be strengthened.

Я вам всем желаю говорить на языках, а ещё более — пророчествовать: пророк выше говорящего на языках, если сказанное на языке не толкуется для укрепления общины.

Dear brothers and sisters,c if I should come to you speaking in an unknown language,d how would that help you? But if I bring you a revelation or some special knowledge or prophecy or teaching, that will be helpful.

Представьте, братья, что я приду к вам и буду говорить на языках. Какая в том польза, если я не передам вам ни откровения, ни знания, ни пророчества, ни поучения?

Even lifeless instruments like the flute or the harp must play the notes clearly, or no one will recognize the melody.

Так звучит бездушный предмет — флейта или арфа: если играющий не отделяет звука от звука, то как понять, что же он играет?

And if the bugler doesn’t sound a clear call, how will the soldiers know they are being called to battle?

Если зов трубы неразборчив, кто будет готовиться к битве?

It’s the same for you. If you speak to people in words they don’t understand, how will they know what you are saying? You might as well be talking into empty space.

Так и с вами, когда говорите на языке: если ваши слова неясны, кто поймет вас? Вы говорите в пустоту.

There are many different languages in the world, and every language has meaning.

Сколько в мире разных языков! Нет народа без языка.

But if I don’t understand a language, I will be a foreigner to someone who speaks it, and the one who speaks it will be a foreigner to me.

Но если я не знаю языка, для говорящего я дикарь, как и он для меня.

And the same is true for you. Since you are so eager to have the special abilities the Spirit gives, seek those that will strengthen the whole church.

И вы, если добиваетесь духовных даров, стремитесь получить их как можно больше для созидания общины.

So anyone who speaks in tongues should pray also for the ability to interpret what has been said.

Поэтому говорящий на языке пусть молится и о даре истолкования.

For if I pray in tongues, my spirit is praying, but I don’t understand what I am saying.

Ибо если я молюсь на языке, молится мой дух, а ум бездействует.

Well then, what shall I do? I will pray in the spirit,e and I will also pray in words I understand. I will sing in the spirit, and I will also sing in words I understand.

Как тогда быть? Буду молиться духом, но также и умом; буду петь хвалу духом, но также и умом.

For if you praise God only in the spirit, how can those who don’t understand you praise God along with you? How can they join you in giving thanks when they don’t understand what you are saying?

Иначе, если ты в духе благословляешь Господа, как представитель собрания сможет ответить «амен»? Он тебя не понимает.

You will be giving thanks very well, but it won’t strengthen the people who hear you.

Да, ты благодаришь достойно, но никого не укрепляешь.

I thank God that I speak in tongues more than any of you.

Благодарение Богу, я говорю на языках больше, чем любой из вас!

But in a church meeting I would rather speak five understandable words to help others than ten thousand words in an unknown language.

Но в собрании я лучше скажу пять вразумительных слов в поучение другим, чем тысячи слов на языке.

Dear brothers and sisters, don’t be childish in your understanding of these things. Be innocent as babies when it comes to evil, but be mature in understanding matters of this kind.

Братья, в рассуждениях не будьте как дети. Для пороков оставайтесь младенцами, но умом будьте зрелыми.

It is written in the Scripturesf: “I will speak to my own people through strange languages and through the lips of foreigners. But even then, they will not listen to me,”g says the LORD.

В Законе сказано:На чужих языках, устами иноземцев Я буду говорить с этим народом, но даже тогда они Меня не послушают,— говорит Господь.

So you see that speaking in tongues is a sign, not for believers, but for unbelievers. Prophecy, however, is for the benefit of believers, not unbelievers.

Поэтому дар языков — это знак не для верующих, а для неверующих, пророчества же — не для неверующих, а для верующих.

Even so, if unbelievers or people who don’t understand these things come into your church meeting and hear everyone speaking in an unknown language, they will think you are crazy.

Если соберется вся община и будет говорить на языках, и войдут непосвященные или неверующие, не скажут ли они: «Да вы не в своем уме»?

But if all of you are prophesying, and unbelievers or people who don’t understand these things come into your meeting, they will be convicted of sin and judged by what you say.

Но если вся община пророчествует, и войдет неверующий или непосвященный, он будет всеми изобличен, всеми испытан,

As they listen, their secret thoughts will be exposed, and they will fall to their knees and worship God, declaring, “God is truly here among you.”

его тайные мысли будут раскрыты, и тогда, пав ниц, он поклонится Богу и воскликнет: «Поистине с вами Бог!»

Well, my brothers and sisters, let’s summarize. When you meet together, one will sing, another will teach, another will tell some special revelation God has given, one will speak in tongues, and another will interpret what is said. But everything that is done must strengthen all of you.

Так что же, братья? Когда вы собираетесь вместе, у каждого есть или гимн, или поучение, или откровение, или язык, или толкование. Пусть всё это служит созидательной цели.

No more than two or three should speak in tongues. They must speak one at a time, and someone must interpret what they say.

Если будете говорить на языках, то пусть делают это двое, самое большее — трое, по очереди, а один толкует.

But if no one is present who can interpret, they must be silent in your church meeting and speak in tongues to God privately.

Если же толкователя нет, пусть эти люди молчат на собрании, а говорят лишь себе и Богу.

Let two or three people prophesy, and let the others evaluate what is said.

Из пророков пусть двое или трое изрекают, а другие обдумывают их слова.

But if someone is prophesying and another person receives a revelation from the Lord, the one who is speaking must stop.

Если кому-то из сидящих вдруг будет дано откровение, пусть тогда изрекающий замолчит.

In this way, all who prophesy will have a turn to speak, one after the other, so that everyone will learn and be encouraged.

Вы можете пророчествовать все поочередно, уча и призывая каждого.

Remember that people who prophesy are in control of their spirit and can take turns.

А пророческий дух подчинен пророку,

For God is not a God of disorder but of peace, as in all the meetings of God’s holy people.h

ибо Бог творит не беспорядок, а мир.Как принято в любой общине святых,

Women should be silent during the church meetings. It is not proper for them to speak. They should be submissive, just as the law says.

женщина должна молчать на собрании, ибо ей следует не говорить, а подчиняться, о чем говорит и Закон.

If they have any questions, they should ask their husbands at home, for it is improper for women to speak in church meetings.i

Если она хочет что-то узнать, пусть спросит дома у мужа, ибо женщине неприлично говорить на собрании.

Or do you think God’s word originated with you Corinthians? Are you the only ones to whom it was given?

Разве Божье слово исходит от вас? Или оно пришло только к вам?

If you claim to be a prophet or think you are spiritual, you should recognize that what I am saying is a command from the Lord himself.

Кто считает себя пророком или человеком духа, пусть распознает, что я пишу вам, как повелел Господь.

But if you do not recognize this, you yourself will not be recognized.j

Кто не признает этого, тот и сам не будет признан.

So, my dear brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and don’t forbid speaking in tongues.

Итак, братья мои, добивайтесь пророческого дара и никому не препятствуйте говорить на языках.

But be sure that everything is done properly and in order.

Всё должно проходить благопристойно и с соблюдением порядка.
