Let love be your highest goal! But you should also desire the special abilities the Spirit gives — especially the ability to prophesy.

Достига́йте любви́; ревну́йте о дара́х духо́вных, осо́бенно же о том, что́бы проро́чествовать.

For if you have the ability to speak in tongues,a you will be talking only to God, since people won’t be able to understand you. You will be speaking by the power of the Spirit,b but it will all be mysterious.

И́бо кто говори́т на незнако́мом языке́, тот говори́т не лю́дям, а Бо́гу; потому́ что никто́ не понима́ет его́, он та́йны говори́т ду́хом;

But one who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them.

а кто проро́чествует, тот говори́т лю́дям в назида́ние, увеща́ние и утеше́ние.

A person who speaks in tongues is strengthened personally, but one who speaks a word of prophecy strengthens the entire church.

Кто говори́т на незнако́мом языке́, тот назида́ет себя́; а кто проро́чествует, тот назида́ет це́рковь.

I wish you could all speak in tongues, but even more I wish you could all prophesy. For prophecy is greater than speaking in tongues, unless someone interprets what you are saying so that the whole church will be strengthened.

Жела́ю, что́бы вы все говори́ли языка́ми; но лу́чше, что́бы вы проро́чествовали; и́бо проро́чествующий превосхо́днее того́, кто говори́т языка́ми, ра́зве он прито́м бу́дет и изъясня́ть, что́бы це́рковь получи́ла назида́ние.

Dear brothers and sisters,c if I should come to you speaking in an unknown language,d how would that help you? But if I bring you a revelation or some special knowledge or prophecy or teaching, that will be helpful.

Тепе́рь, е́сли я приду́ к вам, бра́тия, и ста́ну говори́ть на незнако́мых языка́х, то каку́ю принесу́ вам по́льзу, когда́ не изъясню́сь вам и́ли открове́нием, и́ли позна́нием, и́ли проро́чеством, и́ли уче́нием?

Even lifeless instruments like the flute or the harp must play the notes clearly, or no one will recognize the melody.

И безду́шные ве́щи, издаю́щие звук, свире́ль и́ли гу́сли, е́сли не произво́дят разде́льных то́нов, как распозна́ть то, что игра́ют на свире́ли и́ли на гу́слях?

And if the bugler doesn’t sound a clear call, how will the soldiers know they are being called to battle?

И е́сли труба́ бу́дет издава́ть неопределённый звук, кто ста́нет гото́виться к сраже́нию?

It’s the same for you. If you speak to people in words they don’t understand, how will they know what you are saying? You might as well be talking into empty space.

Так, е́сли и вы языко́м произно́сите невразуми́тельные слова́, то как узна́ют, что вы говори́те? Вы бу́дете говори́ть на ве́тер.

There are many different languages in the world, and every language has meaning.

Ско́лько, наприме́р, разли́чных слов в ми́ре, и ни одного́ из них нет без значе́ния.

But if I don’t understand a language, I will be a foreigner to someone who speaks it, and the one who speaks it will be a foreigner to me.

Но е́сли я не разуме́ю значе́ния слов, то я для говоря́щего чужестра́нец, и говоря́щий для меня́ чужестра́нец.

And the same is true for you. Since you are so eager to have the special abilities the Spirit gives, seek those that will strengthen the whole church.

Так и вы, ревну́я о дара́х духо́вных, стара́йтесь обогати́ться и́ми к назида́нию це́ркви.

So anyone who speaks in tongues should pray also for the ability to interpret what has been said.

А потому́, говоря́щий на незнако́мом языке́, моли́сь о да́ре истолкова́ния.

For if I pray in tongues, my spirit is praying, but I don’t understand what I am saying.

И́бо когда́ я молю́сь на незнако́мом языке́, то хотя́ дух мой и мо́лится, но ум мой остаётся без плода́.

Well then, what shall I do? I will pray in the spirit,e and I will also pray in words I understand. I will sing in the spirit, and I will also sing in words I understand.

Что же де́лать? Ста́ну моли́ться ду́хом, ста́ну моли́ться и умо́м; бу́ду петь ду́хом, бу́ду петь и умо́м.

For if you praise God only in the spirit, how can those who don’t understand you praise God along with you? How can they join you in giving thanks when they don’t understand what you are saying?

И́бо е́сли ты бу́дешь благословля́ть ду́хом, то стоя́щий на ме́сте простолюди́на как ска́жет: «ами́нь» при твоём благодаре́нии? И́бо он не понима́ет, что ты говори́шь.

You will be giving thanks very well, but it won’t strengthen the people who hear you.

Ты хорошо́ благодари́шь, но друго́й не назида́ется.

I thank God that I speak in tongues more than any of you.

Благодарю́ Бо́га моего́: я бо́лее всех вас говорю́ языка́ми;

But in a church meeting I would rather speak five understandable words to help others than ten thousand words in an unknown language.

но в це́ркви хочу́ лу́чше пять слов сказа́ть умо́м мои́м, что́бы и други́х наста́вить, не́жели тьму слов на незнако́мом языке́.

Dear brothers and sisters, don’t be childish in your understanding of these things. Be innocent as babies when it comes to evil, but be mature in understanding matters of this kind.

Бра́тия! не бу́дьте де́ти умо́м: на зло́е бу́дьте младе́нцы, а по уму́ бу́дьте совершенноле́тни.

It is written in the Scripturesf: “I will speak to my own people through strange languages and through the lips of foreigners. But even then, they will not listen to me,”g says the LORD.

В зако́не напи́сано: «ины́ми языка́ми и ины́ми уста́ми бу́ду говори́ть наро́ду сему́; но и тогда́ не послу́шают Меня́, говори́т Госпо́дь».

So you see that speaking in tongues is a sign, not for believers, but for unbelievers. Prophecy, however, is for the benefit of believers, not unbelievers.

Ита́к, языки́ суть знаме́ние не для ве́рующих, а для неве́рующих; проро́чество же не для неве́рующих, а для ве́рующих.

Even so, if unbelievers or people who don’t understand these things come into your church meeting and hear everyone speaking in an unknown language, they will think you are crazy.

Е́сли вся це́рковь сойдётся вме́сте, и все ста́нут говори́ть незнако́мыми языка́ми, и войду́т к вам незна́ющие и́ли неве́рующие, то не ска́жут ли, что вы бесну́етесь?

But if all of you are prophesying, and unbelievers or people who don’t understand these things come into your meeting, they will be convicted of sin and judged by what you say.

Но когда́ все проро́чествуют, и войдёт кто неве́рующий и́ли незна́ющий, то он все́ми облича́ется, все́ми су́дится.

As they listen, their secret thoughts will be exposed, and they will fall to their knees and worship God, declaring, “God is truly here among you.”

И таки́м о́бразом та́йны се́рдца его́ обнару́живаются, и он падёт ниц, покло́нится Бо́гу и ска́жет: «и́стинно с ва́ми Бог».

Well, my brothers and sisters, let’s summarize. When you meet together, one will sing, another will teach, another will tell some special revelation God has given, one will speak in tongues, and another will interpret what is said. But everything that is done must strengthen all of you.

Ита́к, что же, бра́тия? Когда́ вы схо́дитесь, и у ка́ждого из вас есть псало́м, есть поуче́ние, есть язы́к, есть открове́ние, есть истолкова́ние, — всё сие́ да бу́дет к назида́нию.

No more than two or three should speak in tongues. They must speak one at a time, and someone must interpret what they say.

Е́сли кто говори́т на незнако́мом языке́, говори́те дво́е, и́ли мно́го тро́е, и то по́рознь, а оди́н изъясня́й.

But if no one is present who can interpret, they must be silent in your church meeting and speak in tongues to God privately.

Е́сли же не бу́дет истолкова́теля, то молчи́ в це́ркви, а говори́ себе́ и Бо́гу.

Let two or three people prophesy, and let the others evaluate what is said.

И проро́ки пусть говоря́т дво́е и́ли тро́е, а про́чие пусть рассужда́ют.

But if someone is prophesying and another person receives a revelation from the Lord, the one who is speaking must stop.

Е́сли же друго́му из сидя́щих бу́дет открове́ние, то пе́рвый молчи́.

In this way, all who prophesy will have a turn to speak, one after the other, so that everyone will learn and be encouraged.

И́бо все оди́н за други́м мо́жете проро́чествовать, что́бы всем поуча́ться и всем получа́ть утеше́ние.

Remember that people who prophesy are in control of their spirit and can take turns.

И ду́хи проро́ческие послу́шны проро́кам,

For God is not a God of disorder but of peace, as in all the meetings of God’s holy people.h

потому́ что Бог не есть Бог неустро́йства, но ми́ра. Так быва́ет во всех церква́х у святы́х.

Women should be silent during the church meetings. It is not proper for them to speak. They should be submissive, just as the law says.

Жёны ва́ши в церква́х да молча́т, и́бо не позво́лено им говори́ть, а быть в подчине́нии, как и зако́н говори́т.

If they have any questions, they should ask their husbands at home, for it is improper for women to speak in church meetings.i

Е́сли же они́ хотя́т чему́ научи́ться, пусть спра́шивают о том до́ма у муже́й свои́х; и́бо неприли́чно жене́ говори́ть в це́ркви.

Or do you think God’s word originated with you Corinthians? Are you the only ones to whom it was given?

Ра́зве от вас вы́шло сло́во Бо́жие? И́ли до вас одни́х дости́гло?

If you claim to be a prophet or think you are spiritual, you should recognize that what I am saying is a command from the Lord himself.

Е́сли кто почита́ет себя́ проро́ком и́ли духо́вным, тот да разуме́ет, что я пишу́ вам, и́бо э́то за́поведи Госпо́дни.

But if you do not recognize this, you yourself will not be recognized.j

А кто не разуме́ет, пусть не разуме́ет.

So, my dear brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and don’t forbid speaking in tongues.

Ита́к, бра́тия, ревну́йте о том, что́бы проро́чествовать, но не запреща́йте говори́ть и языка́ми;

But be sure that everything is done properly and in order.

то́лько всё должно́ быть благопристо́йно и чи́нно.
