And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him.

Однажды в Субботу Иисус пошёл пообедать в доме одного из ведущих фарисеев, и все внимательно наблюдали за ним.

And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy.

Перед ним находился человек, всё тело которого вздулось от водянки.

And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?

Иисус громко спросил у знатоков Закона и фарисеев: "Разрешает Закон исцелять в Субботу или нет?"

And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go;

Но они ничего не ответили. Тогда, дотронувшись до него, он исцелил его и отослал.

And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day?

А им он сказал: "Кто из вас, если ваш сын или вол упадёт в колодец, тут же не вытянет его оттуда в Субботу?"

And they could not answer him again to these things.

И на это они ничего не смогли ответить.

And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them,

Когда Иисус заметил, как гости выбирали для себя лучшие места за столом, он рассказал им такую притчу:

When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him;

"Когда кто-нибудь приглашает тебя на праздничный пир, не садись на самое лучшее место, потому что если кто-то из приглашённых окажется более почётным гостем,

And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room.

человек, позвавший вас обоих к себе, может подойти и сказать тебе: 'Уступи своё место этому человеку'. Тогда ты почувствуешь себя униженным, когда пойдёшь и займёшь самое плохое место.

But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.

Лучше, когда тебя пригласят, пойди и займи наименее почётное место, и когда подойдёт тот, кто тебя пригласил, он скажет тебе: 'Пойди пересядь выше'. Тогда сидящие с тобой проникнутся к тебе уважением.

For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Ибо всякий человек, возвышающий себя, будет унижен, а унижающий себя, возвысится".

Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.

Иисус также сказал пригласившему его: "Когда устраиваешь званый обед или ужин, не приглашай своих друзей, братьев, родственников или богатых соседей; потому что они в свою очередь также пригласят тебя, и этим возместят тебе.

But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:

Лучше, когда устраиваешь обед, приглашай нищих, увечных, калек, слепых!

And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

Благословен ты, потому что они ничего не смогут дать тебе взамен! Ибо тебе возместят всё в воскресении праведников".

And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.

Услышав это, один из сидевших за столом вместе с Иисусом сказал ему: "Благословенны те, которые едят хлеб в Божьем Царстве!"

Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:

Но он ответил: "Однажды некий человек устроил пир и пригласил много людей.

And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.

Когда подошло время для пира, он послал своего раба передать всем приглашённым: 'Приходите! Всё готово!'

And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.

Но у каждого из них нашлась отговорка. Один сказал ему: 'Я только что купил поле, мне нужно пойти и посмотреть его. Пожалуйста, прими мои извинения'.

And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.

Другой сказал: 'Я только что приобрёл пару волов и собираюсь испытать их. Пожалуйста, извини'

And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

Третий сказал: 'Я только что женился, поэтому не могу прийти'.

So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.

Раб вернулся и пересказал всё своему хозяину. Тогда хозяин дома, рассердившись, велел рабу: 'Скорее, выйди на улицы и переулки города и приведи нищих, калек, слепых и увечных!'

And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.

Раб сказал: 'Господин, я исполнил то, что ты велел, а места ещё много'.

And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

Хозяин сказал рабу: 'Выйди на просёлочные дороги и к изгородям, и настойчиво убеждай людей прийти, чтобы мой дом наполнился.

For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.

Говорю тебе, ни один из приглашённых мною ничего не отведает на моём пиру!'"

And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,

Огромное количество народа шло вместе с Иисусом. Обернувшись, он сказал им:

If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

"Если кто-нибудь приходит ко мне и не возненавидит своего отца, мать, жену, детей, братьев и сестёр, и кроме того, собственную жизнь, тот не может быть моим учеником.

And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

Тот, кто не несёт свою стойку казни и не следует за мной, не может быть моим учеником.

For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?

Предположим, кто-либо из вас хочет построить башню. Разве сначала ты не сядешь и не подсчитаешь издержки, чтобы выяснить, хватит ли тебе денег на её завершение?

Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,

В противном случае, если ты заложишь фундамент, но не сможешь закончить, все наблюдающие будут смеяться над тобой

Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.

и скажут: 'Вот человек, который начал строить, но не смог довести дело до конца!'

Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?

Или ещё, предположим, что некий царь собирается вести войну против другого царя. Разве сначала он не сядет и не обдумает, хватит ли ему сил с его десятитысячным войском противостоять идущему на него с двадцатью тысячами?

Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.

Если же нет, тогда, пока тот ещё далеко, он направит к нему своих представителей, чтобы заключить договор о мире.

So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

Поэтому тот из вас, кто не отрекается от всего, что имеет, не может быть моим учеником.

Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?

Соль — отличная вещь, но если даже соль становится безвкусной, чем же ещё можно приправить её?

It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Она не годится ни для почвы, ни для удобрения — её выбрасывают вон. Те, у кого есть уши, способные слышать, пусть услышат!"
